Now we know that EX will be a new card mechanic, but how will it work? I have an idea but I am curious how others are imagining that it will work.

1 per deck, automatically becomes your active Pokemon when you retreat or get knocked out, and goes into the Lost Zone when it leaves play. Each EX Pokemon requires a certain condition to be played (for example, Mewtwo EX requires 6 total of Pokeball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball and Master Ball in the discard pile and Kyurem requires that there be a Zekrom and Reshiram in play who both have at least 6 damage counters). Each EX Pokemon has an attack/ability related to their play condition (Mewtwo can use attacks from any Pokemon in the deck and Kyurem changes types and weaknesses whenever you attach an energy to him, Zekrom, or Reshiram).

That's probably too complicated. How about you get 2 prizes for knocking them out again?

The new mechanic isn't out yet, it was JUST announced in Japan, the set comes out in September THERE, lets give them some time to find out themselves before we do.

i think it will be the same as before.
it makes no sense they would use ex and EX differently.
just because someone translated or type it lower-case, it doesnt mean it will be different.
if you look closely, the packs of the english ex sets were titled with EX.
so it really doesnt matter.
i think it will be just the same as before.
why not created something like totally different before using a lower/upper cased ex differently.

those people who say it will be a different mechanic based on spelling, it makes no sense.

It's not just translated different, it IS different. On the old ex's, it was short for extra. Anyway, it was pronounced EHKS in Japan. One syllable like the letter x, that's it. This time it's EX, EE-ehks. Two syllables, not short for anything. There's no reason for them NOT to be different mechanics.

No way of knowing right now but straight up 2 prizes (like the old ex) would be my last guess, since if that was correct, why name them differently?

My guesses:
1) Play on top like Lv.X but take 2 prizes.
2) Play as a basic like SP but take 2 prizes.
3) Regular evolution, cant play unless less prizes then opponent.

And there were some neat tricks with Surprise! Time Machine. Oh how I miss that card. That and Swoop! Teleporter.

You can find all of the ex cards in the Pokegym Research Tower if you want to take a look but keep in mind as of now we have no idea if the new EX cards are going to be the same.

They all say it will be different -.-
Plus, its saying "EX" and not "ex"
why does everyone thing ex = EX?
and the pronunciation is difference

This is how it will work.

They'll print some EX cards that will be mostly rubbish, but kids will go nuts about them at PR.

Then we'll get some semi-decent ones.

Then there will be a set with 3-5 brilliant EX that everyone will want for meta decks. Some will hit $60+ a piece.

Then we will get a reprint/filler set.

Then everyone will be struck down in terror when news emerges of a new Pokemon mechanic called 'sp' (lower case) and pronounced 'spuh' in Japan.

LOL #epic thats exactly what will happen

Haxorus EX spuh/Galvantula EX spuh confirmed for BDIF in 2013

Anyway, I think that the two mechanics will be at least somewhat related. I really don't think they would release a completely different mechanic with a slightly different name, too confusing. I think it will either be the exact same (unlikely, but possible), or it will have the "ex" rule of drawing two prizes, plus something else. Or it will just be an arbitrary title, like with "Pokemon prime". In any case, I hope it's the second one, I want to see this game shaken up.

Well we have 1 for 60, 0 for 70 (or 40 snipe) and 3 for 120 right now, all with 110+ HP and Basic/Stage1. I shudder to think what kind of attacks and HP the EX will bring, whatever their mechanic winds up to be.
