Human effects on global warming.

I think the earth is going through a warming cycle.

I think humans have nothing to do with it, water vapor outclasses Carbon Dioxide emissions from human factories by many levels.

If it is related to carbon dioxide, it would be much more largly affected by dying vegitation then human cars.

The eath will continue to go through cycles, weather or magnetic or anything else, without any aid from humans.

^ they were having a talk about the warming cycle on the radio the other day. That's most likely what it is, I think it's sort of like the Ice Age. It came and went.

First off global warming is a religion, full of hogwash meant to scare us into thinking polar bears are drifting off never to be seen again or that by 2XXX the icebergs will have melted so bad that the ocean will be flooding every country in the world.

The argument for global warming is the sold out idea that we're all going to die by our own works. Pollution is going to kill us, secondhand smoke will kill us, not recycling, destroying wetlands, and Wal-mart are all going to kill us. The most recent study shows Edison had in the works a plan to kill off humanity with the lightbulb.....

We are lucky though. We have the prophet AlGore
Gore is slowly saving mankind through books, MANDATORY global warming videos in some schools, and through influencing elected officials. Most recent works of AlGore were his ten commandments.....I mean legislative changes sent to Congress. (lmk if you want them listed)

All of this is being pushed of course towards the US...if it was really that imminent of a danger why is it China is not being chastized into going through the same changes as us? China predicted to be well over the US in 2010-2012 in CO2 how come their not getting Gores books or movies? I hear they liked Spiderman3 so why not Gores movie?
How come those pushing for the decrease or complete halt of pollutionary agents are the biggest culprits?

Like I said in the beginning its a religion meant to play on the fears and guilt of every US citizen.
Every hurricane now-it was caused by global warming (thats why we had so few last year)
Every bit of ice melting in the world-global warming

These wacko people pushing global warming target the US why?
Simply put they can get away with it, and make milions in the process, every year.

Whatever happened to smog? It was reinvented in global warming...
Different year same old story as a decade ago with a fancier name.

If you believe global warming will destory the world,
GO HOME.
Please deposit yourself into the nearest convenient fireplace.

I do believe, however, that it is merely a cycle.
Temperature goes up a degree, goes down a degree, over a few centuries/decades.

I think the earth is going through a warming cycle.
I belive I read somewhere that when comparing the last 50 years to the last 10,000 (can't remember exact number..it was big though.), which has held a large amount of these, the past 50 was about 5 times greater.

Pretty big one, I guess.

Believing that you read somewhere doesn't count as evidence, it would be very nice of you to show links.

I'll try to find it.

Also, save the rain-forest things.

Edit:
These aren't what I first found, but do show it.

-This source is not that broadcasted, so could be shaky.

-Answers some myths I believe are false, still shaky.

A graph...yay?

Article by NASA, in opening statement says how much temp. has raised. May seem low, but I assure you it's large.

I found these in about 10 min., so they aren't the best, seeing as I got bored really fast.

I do agree that human caused Global Warming is only half of it. The Earth IS naturally 'warming' up as seen by looking at ice cores from the past. But, you seem to look at it as if the threat of Global Warming is the planet becoming a toxic sludge pool with brown skies of smoke and toxic waste barrels everywhere.

... No. Natural and human induced, though no other evidence of it until now, global warming, as far as I know, doesn't raise the temperature obscene amounts. Just a few degrees. It's the climate and weather changes that are the main concern. The slightest change in climate can cause major, not-threatening, changes in weather patterns, and, well, temperature.

Global warming... a fancier name for smog, huh?

Why are you against the idea of global warming? What, do you think it's some radical movement/belief intended to brain wash people or something? mean, ***? Nobody woke up one day and said, "You know what, I'm going to profit off of global warming." It's scientists through years of work and evidence that make these assumptions. Not politicians looking for a quick buck.

I think the issue isn't that human interference is directly of such dire consequence, but that it's dangerous indirectly because it throws off a delicate natural balance. Basically, we're putting out more gases than the usual uptakers can handle. So the extra stuff just floats around and raises the temperature a wee bit... enough to, say, melt some Siberian methane? Which in turn (after vaporization) makes it warmer still and feeds into that same cycle, getting more and more off-balance from a relatively small variation.

Maybe not that exactly, but hopefully you get the general idea.

It seems quite clear to me that humankind has the potential do destroy itself quite unintentionally. Global warming is only one of the possible ways.

It’s also quite possible that humankind will be able to think its way out of the messes it keeps getting itself into. But this is one area where past performance is not a guarantee of future success.

And for those who wonder why the US is targeted ... well it’s because in the past our country has been able to influence others once we’ve set on a course. Sure there may be those who want to harm us by imposing unwise policy, but I suspect that most global warming proponents want the US to lead on this issue and they view action as something that will help everyone eventually.

As long as the US does little at home to deal with the issue then nations like China can do what they want and no amount of outside pressure by smaller countries is going to change things their minds. It will take a concerted effort that includes leadership by the US to get more reluctant countries to do things differently.

There is also the little matter of how easy it is to be put in jail in China and the massive media & internet filtering they do. It’s simply easier to prod a more open country.

I think that you can have a rational discussion on what the best ways to respond to the change in climate are. There is a limit to what any one economy can bear. But it also seems clear to me that doing nothing will simply lead to more issues down the road for us or for our descendents.

And that’s probably why it’s a hard sell too. The things we do, drive our cars, manufacture the few things we do anymore as cheaply as possible to compete with overseas operations, chop down forestland for development or cash, and more. They all make sense on a micro scale. Cars get us where we need to go quickly and efficiently. Installing expensive “green” machines at factories cuts or eliminates profit. Getting rid of those rainforest trees means feeding someone’s family down in South America. It’s hard for anyone to sacrifice when it’s against their individual interest and it’s not clear to them that it will help the big picture either.

I've never seen a meteorologist make an accurate 10-day weather forecast.

Why would anyone have unlimited confidence in their ability to predict the weather FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS?

State of Fear

Our world is definitely changing. But is it getting better or worse? Intimidating and fooling the masses for $$$$$ is nothing new, but through the power of the internet, I'm afraid we've begun the "Great Age of Disinformation". My hope is that the younger generation will be able to see through the Socialist propaganda of our education system (especially at the university level).

This snippet, from the book "State of Fear" should make you think.

Why Politicized Science is Dangerous
(Excerpted from State of Fear)

Imagine that there is a new scientific theory that warns of an impending crisis, and points to a way out.

This theory quickly draws support from leading scientists, politicians and celebrities around the world. Research is funded by distinguished philanthropies, and carried out at prestigious universities. The crisis is reported frequently in the media. The science is taught in college and high school classrooms.

I don't mean global warming. I'm talking about another theory, which rose to prominence a century ago.

Its supporters included Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Winston Churchill. It was approved by Supreme Court justices Oliver Wendell Holmes and Louis Brandeis, who ruled in its favor. The famous names who supported it included Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone; activist Margaret Sanger; botanist Luther Burbank; Leland Stanford, founder of Stanford University; the novelist H. G. Wells; the playwright George Bernard Shaw; and hundreds of others. Nobel Prize winners gave support. Research was backed by the Carnegie and Rockefeller Foundations. The Cold Springs Harbor Institute was built to carry out this research, but important work was also done at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and Johns Hopkins. Legislation to address the crisis was passed in states from New York to California.

These efforts had the support of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Medical Association, and the National Research Council. It was said that if Jesus were alive, he would have supported this effort.

All in all, the research, legislation and molding of public opinion surrounding the theory went on for almost half a century. Those who opposed the theory were shouted down and called reactionary, blind to reality, or just plain ignorant. But in hindsight, what is surprising is that so few people objected.

Today, we know that this famous theory that gained so much support was actually pseudoscience. The crisis it claimed was nonexistent. And the actions taken in the name of theory were morally and criminally wrong. Ultimately, they led to the deaths of millions of people.

The theory was eugenics, and its history is so dreadful --- and, to those who were caught up in it, so embarrassing --- that it is now rarely discussed. But it is a story that should be well known to every citizen, so that its horrors are not repeated.

The theory of eugenics postulated a crisis of the gene pool leading to the deterioration of the human race. The best human beings were not breeding as rapidly as the inferior ones --- the foreigners, immigrants, Jews, degenerates, the unfit, and the "feeble minded." Francis Galton, a respected British scientist, first speculated about this area, but his ideas were taken far beyond anything he intended. They were adopted by science-minded Americans, as well as those who had no interest in science but who were worried about the immigration of inferior races early in the twentieth century --- "dangerous human pests" who represented "the rising tide of imbeciles" and who were polluting the best of the human race.

The eugenicists and the immigrationists joined forces to put a stop to this. The plan was to identify individuals who were feeble-minded --- Jews were agreed to be largely feeble-minded, but so were many foreigners, as well as blacks --- and stop them from breeding by isolation in institutions or by sterilization.

As Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood) said, "Fostering the good-for-nothing at the expense of the good is an extreme cruelty … there is not greater curse to posterity than that of bequeathing them an increasing population of imbeciles." She spoke of the burden of caring for "this dead weight of human waste."

Such views were widely shared. H.G. Wells spoke against "ill-trained swarms of inferior citizens." Theodore Roosevelt said that "Society has no business to permit degenerates to reproduce their kind." Luther Burbank" "Stop permitting criminals and weaklings to reproduce." George Bernard Shaw said that only eugenics could save mankind.

There was overt racism in this movement, exemplified by texts such as "The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy" by American author Lothrop Stoddard. But, at the time, racism was considered an unremarkable aspect of the effort to attain a marvelous goal --- the improvement of humankind in the future. It was this avant-garde notion that attracted the most liberal and progressive minds of a generation. California was one of twenty-nine American states to pass laws allowing sterilization, but it proved the most-forward-looking and enthusiastic --- more sterilizations were carried out in California than anywhere else in America.

Eugenics research was funded by the Carnegie Foundation, and later by the Rockefeller Foundation. The latter was so enthusiastic that even after the center of the eugenics effort moved to Germany, and involved the gassing of individuals from mental institutions, the Rockefeller Foundation continued to finance German researchers at a very high level. (The foundation was quiet about it, but they were still funding research in 1939, only months before the onset of World War II.)

Since the 1920s, American eugenicists had been jealous because the Germans had taken leadership of the movement away from them. The Germans were admirably progressive. They set up ordinary-looking houses where "mental defectives" were brought and interviewed one at a time, before being led into a back room, which was, in fact, a gas chamber. There, they were gassed with carbon monoxide, and their bodies disposed of in a crematorium located on the property.

Eventually, this program was expanded into a vast network of concentration camps located near railroad lines, enabling the efficient transport and of killing ten million undesirables.

Is global warming a real crisis? And if it is, do we have the intellect or power to change it -- without passing laws that make us all Amish?

Wow. Talk about a straw man argument.
Equating Global Warming to Eugenics and then to Genocide which means that supporters of the theories of Global Warming are Nazis.

Well played. Well played.

So, Gore is Hilter, I take it?

We live in a scar-factor countrey. If ANYONE has watched the 20/20 special on Fear Nation they know what I am talking about.

Bird Flu, Global Warming, Nuclear War, Oil Shortages, Meteors, Rampaging Pokemon, Cereal Killers, the media makes it like it is a miracle we are still alive. They will take the smallest story and expand it beyond logical proportions, look again at Bird Flu.

You could flip through the channels of 12 or more news stations and get a story about it, Bird Flu, ITS COMING RIGHT FOR US(cookie to whoever gets that refrence). Didn't they say everyone had to get expense vaccinations or else millions of people would die?

Iraq had WMPs, right? Check again.

I watched the Democratic parties debate a few nights ago. They were talking about boycotting the Olympics because China was buying oil from the Middle East. I literally stopped watching there:nonono:

Global Warming might be happening, so far it is only a degree or two. Also, new studies have shown that the water won't rise 12 feet, maybe 12 inches if we are REALLY REALLY REALLY lucky. I have also found out that the most advanced computers aren't good enough for the biosphere predictions, so Global Warming scientists don't even know for sure about anything, their data isn' accurate enough.
Will post links later.
