Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

I fold.

Well, I figured it would get to this point. I need a break from the Pokemon TCG.

What used to be done for fun has become a chore, and even nearly become an obligation (Caused by certain people). I'm sick of the current format, my last few tournaments saw an increase in players only at the tournament to WIN (As opposed to having fun), and I'm generally tired of the way I've been treated by certain people. A great deal of the people I know have been very supportive, and wonderful, but a small number of you have made it increasingly less fun to play the TCG.

It's difficult to explain why the reasons why I feel this way, but Pokemon is not fun right now. I can go in depth, but I would step in toes.

But why now? Something happened earlier that was more or less the straw that broke the camel's back, making me realize I needed a break. I was yelled at for not attending a tournament today.

You'd think this wouldn't be a big deal, but it is. I'm in the middle of finals (junior year), I just finished my second round of SATs, I've been doing a great deal of work for my school's yearbook in these past few days, and I'm mentally and physically exhausted from those along with a few other things. After the most recent event, I come home to be yelled at by someone for not coming to a tournament. That doesn't set well with me.

Not much more I can say beyond that. I'll be back eventually, right now I have several other things I would like to persue, and Pokemon is the best candidate of things to be put on hold.

I'll be back when the TCG starts looking fun again.

I fold.

I accept your concession. Now just sign the match slip and we'll all be on our way. *cough* Sorry, I just don't like "I'm leaving" style topics.

MHZ best wishes for finishing the year & hope to see you around soon.

Marril, a great number of the people that I know frequent these boards. If I suddenly stop doing ANYTHING related to the TCG, they'd wonder what on Earth happened to me. This is a "I'm not dead, and I didn't fall of the earth" topic. I'm letting them know that my lack of involvement was intentional, and I'm giving them a reason WHY I'm no longer involved. I already get concerned IMs about why I haven't been doing anything lately. Posting this on the Pokegym is the best way I can let the largest number of people know what happened.

I'm not leaving in total disgust. I'm taking a break from something that takes up too much effort right now and letting my friends know this.

Heh, I sorta know what you mean, MHZ. After Origins last year I sort of had a burn out. I was seriously considering quitting pokemon all together, but a few friends convinced me to just take a little break. I took a few weeks off and felt much better once I got back into it. Good luck with all the other life stuff you're dealing with. I know how tough that stuff can be.

I did quit. Three or so years ago. Got right out of it. Local environment died. When none of the shops bothered stocking Revelations, I called it a day.

After about a year, however, I gradually drifted back into it. Extremely casual. I haven't played an official game since the PokeLeague ended waaay back before Neo Genesis. There aren't many uncommons I own four of. I just get enough packs from a set to get a taster. I keep two decks, both unlimited format, to kick around with anyone who remembers how to play.

Look, if things have gotten as serious as you say then it's entirely up to you what to do. Over the past year and a bit, Magic locally has gone from casual squirrel decks to national hotspot. The Irish Nationals have just finished; I was convinced by some of the guys to netdeck for it for the first tme in my life. I'm not happy, but first thing I did afterwards was to rip my deck up into something more comfortable (for those of you who are Magic-literate, I took out the whole Tooth & Nail element and put in Mycosynth Lattice/Door to Nothingness. It's quite funky).

You don't have to quit Pokemon completely. The tournament scene isn't all there is. Go casual. Back away from the tournament scene and all the idiots who swear by it. I'm not going to quit Magic. The Nationals has just hardened my resolve to play what i damned well like, when i like, how I like and, above all, because I like to. I'll still play in tournaments. I love annoying the net-decker Spikes like that. You wanna try that for a while?

It's fun :)

Oddly enough I do exactly that (keep two decks around). Although neither deck is legal if what I've heard of bannings/restrictions is accurate.

well, maverick hunter, although i don't think i know you, its sad to see a player retiring and moving on towards new things. i can understand why you're leaving for a while, i would too if i got yelled at for missing a tourney. so from my deepest thoughts, thanks for being a great player sticking with the TCG up 'til now so my best wishes for a new time in your life. and once again thanks for being a loyal player.
See ya,
Me

Feel free to IM me at: amphymaster

I will not say anything, soft, if that is what anybody would call it.
But hey, look at me!
I stopped collecting, and even glancing at my cards after the Team rocket series.

I took probably the biggest break in Pokemon history.

By the way, MHZ, I would apologize, that is, if i could read minds. (not to be cold)

Never heard of those forums, sorry. =(

And it doesn't really matter, does it? I've already gotten things squared away with that person, and besides, the matter was between us. No one else really needs to be involved. =/

I know how you feel.

I think one reason the fun factor is wearing off is becuase Pokemon is well past the fad stage. That means there are hardly any new players, and means alot of people are losing interest. This means that those left are usually only in it for winning. Of course, the competetion is nice, but you eventually tire out playing "competetive decks", instead of playing people who want to be innovative or who just want to have fun.

Er, that probably doesn't make any sense, but it's late and the quick reply text is really small. =D
