Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

I'm sure there is a thread on this somewhere...

YGO doesn't have all the draw/search that Pokemon does,

Their version of Mom's Kindness (Pot of Greed) has been on the Forbidden list for years.

Imagine YGO if it had cards like Pokedex/Pokemon Collector/Lux Ball and you could play them on T1 . . .

reinforcement of the army
gladiator proving ground
e-emergency call
sangan
tutors (monsters that search other monsters upon battle. happens all the time)
destiny draw
allure of darkness
charge of the light brigade
blackwing whirlwind
solar recharge

yugioh is worse than pokemon in terms of speed/draw/search

Most of that draw is very theme-specific and many of those cards have been forbidden/limited at various times.

You can't compare something like RoTA (search for 1 Level 4 or lower Warrior) to Pokemon Collector (grab 3 Basics) or even Great Ball (bench any Basic).

Allure/Solar Recharge/Destiny Draw draws 2 if you remove a specific monster from play from your hand. How does that compare against Cosmic Power or Uxie's Set Up?

Sangan, RoTA, Charge, Allure, and Destiny Draw are all Limited to one copy per deck.

^^reinforcement of the army is at 1
sangan is at 1
destiny draw is at 1
allure of darkness is at 1
charge of the light brigade is at 1
black whirlwind is at 2

pokemon has so much more draw and search that is legal than yugioh has. Allowing the first player to use trainers/supporters is ridiculous. Especially with Sableye and Spiritomb in the format. Let's say I play Gyaradosand go first. I play Pokemon Collector and then use sableye to grab felicity and I'm ready to go off T2.

I believe that we are fine the way things are now.

Just pointing out. We USED to allow trainers turn 1. We've never allowed supportors I beleive.

That being said. There's been a lot of Power Creep since then....

Imagine Machamp + Rare Candy turn 1.

You lose before you even get to draw a card. We got rid of turn 1 Trainers for a reason, TS.

Ironically, the deck that people love to bash as broken the most in this format is the same deck that is most capable of capitalizing on a going-first start with any mediocre hand.

But going first is a huge impairment.

Hmmmm.

Imagine Machamp + Rare Candy turn 2.
You lose before you even get to play a card.

Allowing all trainers on turn one would be crazy, but allowing nothing but an energy attachment (considering that you could have benched your basics during setup) is a severe handicap.
I can't stress this enough, wait until call energy rotates and watch how much worse it gets for whoever goes first.

Yeah, but you gotta admit that having a chance to at least bench something > not even getting to play.

It's flawed either way, but it's just a little fairer this way.

If you start with something like Pachirisu or Call Energy yes, but other than that, the only thing you could bench (that you couldn't have during setup) is whatever you topdecked at the start of the turn.

Allowing a supporter on turn one would help with that a great deal (they still can't Rare Candy, BTS, Plus Power, or Expert Belt).
They can't even spam Crobat drops since they won't be able to Poketurn.

do you play yugioh?

just wondering because irregardless of what the card is limited at, they are still HUGE problems.

just because pokemon has more "draw power" than yugioh DOES NOT mean its worse than yugioh. trust me on this.... :thumb:

Does help that Yugioh decks pack only 40 cards...the thing with Yugiohs spells is that they're all "trainers", therefore they can just keep playing them, whereas Pokemon slowed that down using supporters.

Regardless, as long as Sableye is in the format, allowing the T1 player a supporter is a HUGE error. In that vein I agree with the idea of "Not being able to attack the opponent T1 but allowing supporters/trainers T1". This will allow a better setup, though it is a scary thought to be looking at two Kingdras before you even got to draw a card.

For YGO... 40 card decks make games shorter sometimes... you can stall longer in this game

For pokemon... what if, neither player can play trainers on their first turn! also, 60 card decks make games longer but it is mostly 1 hit kill...

its how the cards interact with each other is why the games are shorter in yugioh. not the deck size.

EXACTLY! "Hurr durr I hate that Machamp can just use Trainers and Supporters going 2nd and I can't use them to fill up my bench and prevent it!"
"Well how would you feel about Machamp being able to use them regardless of what they get on the coinflip?"
"Hurr durr"

Going first really isn't even that bad. I genuinely PREFER going first, as a matter of fact. I get to Cosmic Power first, I get to Bright Look first, etc.

Broken Time-Space and Rare Candy would like a word about that first turn cosmic power, or is there a Baltoy with self-evolution that I'm unaware of?

I do believe going first is too much of a handicap.

There was a time when the player going first could use trainers. Imagine how an opponent felt as the starting player uses their Wigglytuff to Do The Wave for a FTKO or a Pidgey-RC-Pidgeot hand to search for DRE etc etc. But they moved on(as they must have, or else TPCi would have changed the rules much faster) Giving this advantage to the 2nd player doesn't solve anything at all.

He means he can do all this before his opponent can (he benches it T1 and uses it T2 before the opponent can)

I think that allowing the player who goes first use of a supporter would eliminate most of these issues. Sableye is getting rotated, so any rule change wobt affect people getting sableDonked
