Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Impact Corner - A look at the new HeartGold and SoulSilver set!

Exactly. (To the opinion piece part.) I love writing the article, but I love the debate even more! The fact is, that it's nearly impossilbe to get this 100% right, How do you predict anything in this format right now? The artcle has 2 functions: Provide a display for the new cards, so everyone can see them and get a little info about them, and let the argueing begin! That's how we will really drum up some good ideas for states!!

Well Jumpluff for one, Your article is entitled Impact Cornor not "whats good". Weather or not Jumpluff is good is irrelavant the bottomline is that it got a lot of hype before and after the sets release. Therefore it will see play thus having an impact.

To the whole Poke Ball thing, if you read the statement, it's kind of dripping with sarcasm. That's my way
of saying, 'thanks for keeping this card in the rotation....again....' since Poke Ball really isn't taht good.
I'll be sure to mark my next artcile with something like <------ SARCASM. Sorry, I do like to have fun
writing these...I suppose since it's a site-wide article, I should be a tad more on point.

As for jumpluff:
I guess it just didn't get very much hype where I'm from. But then again, we have a rotation of only about
50 players here, so it's not exactly fishing for info out of the pacific Ocean.

In general, things in this game are impactful because they are good, not because they are hyped. I can
remember Amphytrick getting a lot of hype, but I don't remember anyone winning anyting with it. And in the
end, that's all that matters in what is impactful.

The real bottom line is:
I'd much rather go back and forth on the discussion of each card, rather than the general relavance of how 'on
point' each of my statements where in the artcle...that's a waste of time, can we focus on the cards for the
rest of the thread?

Anwyay, to the cards:
I love Oaks Theory! Rowan's, Cynthia's, Oak's Visit, Looker's...it's not that this card is the greatest ever
released, it's that it's another option to tailor a certain type of deck. What kind of deck would use New Theory
in particular? Who knows. But the point is, Decks with Pokedrawers probobly should use Rowan, people heavy
on level max should use Oaks Visit, people who's pokemon get KOed easy should use Cynthia's, people who
need to know their opponenets hand should use Lookers. It's just another option, and I love it!

I'm really inerested to see how that Flygon combo turns out. I'l lhave to give it a try before I throw it out the
window. But again, with all the speed in the format, it's a slow tech. It COULD work, particularly in a long
battle when u need every advantage. I'll get back to you after I've seen it in action.

Oh, and copycat. It's a good card, certainly another I was on the fence about. But claydol is easily one of the most
popular decks in the format. With the Claydol tech, I try to end my turn with as few cards in my hand as possible, and
then play as many before using cosmic power the next turn. In general, during my opponent's turn, I'm trying to have
my hand low, which hurts copycat. With so many shuppet and other 'high hand count' decks in the format, this card
could be the supporter of choice. But I think the shuppet is kind of comparrable to the AMU, it's complicated, requires
a billion trainers, and just isn't that easy to build perfectly...so you'll only be facing it on a rare occasion. The other decks
just don't consistantly end up with enough in their hands to ensure that this is consistantly more affective than the other
draw trainers IMO. Again, it's situation based on your area's metagame, and the importance of the role the other draw
supporters play in your deck.

I think Jumpluff can be a huge sweep card. A Jumpluff Fishing deck can be devastating, actually, especially since Jumpluff can benefit from Cherrim's Sunny Day.

1 Jumpluff + 1 Cherrim does 40 damage for one energy, which nothing to scoff at (Jumpluff, Cherrim, and the opponent's Defending, plus Sunny Day). Add in Expert Belt for 20 and it becomes 60 very easily with a Fishing Deck.

A Jumpluff with 2-3 Cherrims and an expert belt can oneshot alot of Pokemon.

As was said by everyone else in this thread, Jumpluff, DonPrime, and Slowking all have a lot of potential.

Slowking in a Flygon is not slow... he's a stage 1. In addition, you should already be running psychic on Flygon for Azelf/Queen/Uxie/Mewtwo/whatever other Psychic Pokemon you run.

DonPrime is a solid fighter in combo with another fighter with a specific Pokebody, but I won't go into that. Since all decks need to run Warp Energy to get themselves out of Glistomb/Flytrap/etc., a high retreat doesn't take away his viability.

Jumpluff can easily do the most damage for the lowest cost. Shaymin keeps them at 130HP (150 with expert belt). Considering you can control 70 of the damage (assuming your opponent plays no bench), and will usually hit for 100+, he is super high impact.

MeganiPrime will make an impact... at the low record tables, that's about it. As was said, Sceptile outclasses him, and he barely sees play.

Blissey Prime/Feraligatr Prime will see a lot of play, some more successful than others. Both have potential. Professor Oak's New Theory is OK... It's more consistent than Cynthia's, but offers less situational benefit. I can see people using this card successfully, but most likely those players will be in the minority.

I agree with your high impact cards, though (think that DonPrime is another high impact card too). Thanks for the article.

I would've liked it more if you mentioned how Pokemon Collector helps out Gyarados.
But a great read overall.
I hope they make a good arcanine again(the last REALLY tier one Arcanine was Blaine's Arcanine)

Uhhh...where's Donphan prime lol

Also copycat will be high impact. With shuppet and SP around, copycat can net 10+ cards easily.

I finally commented

hey you finally changed your picture. you are now showing your true pixie colors ^_^ohh and congrats on the article... didnt read it looked like to much work but yea good job

Wow, this is hard to believe, I'm itching to play again!

Pokemon Collector bringing my favourite card ever Holon Mentor back, maybe even my Moltres deck could be viable  all depends on whether there is a great deal of power negation or not being used, I don't know right now. DCE I have mixed feelings about, I'm so glad to see it back, but it sets off alarm bells in my head, high chance-based turn one/two combos etc. Like a DRE that basics get in many ways without the attack drop.

I actually quite like that Unown which returns your energy. Given Collector/Roseanne's getting your basics, tech basics looks an atractive option. With DCEs in play, your opponent might deduce you have expired all 4 in discard/play combined, you could bounce them back and a game-turning suprise attack.

I'm thinking DCE, fire, fire on a Moltres, next turn use the DCE to retreat to a fully-powered one that picked up the previous Moltres' discarded energy! And Pokemon Collector means three flips opportunity to Redshift. Communication to grab a Ninetales maybe and use that with a tech Lunatone for the discards. Hmm... Two Ninetales = +6 a turn, two discard = lots of SSU.

Lol at Bill as a supporter now! Shuckle is going to love DCE hehe.

Off to research Ultimate Zone/Arceus/Moltres possibilities.

this set has had a bigger impact than3/10 atleast a 6 and why is amphros and donphan in medium impact they are some of the best this set as to opher

feraligater prime + blissey prime + and unown with reversal works well or take out unown for meganium prime

The only card which has in my opinion a great impact from this set is Double Coulourless Energy. Honourable mentions go to Pokemon Collector, Donphan and Jumpluff.
