Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Instead of Claydol

Hi. We have been away from Pokemon for more than half a year. When our kids last played, almost every deck used a couple of Claydols for drawpower. Is there any new cards with that kind of value? And what kind of Trainer/Supporterengines are useful now? The kids want to build some new decks now, and it`s a hard work to get into it again... Thanks for any advice.

Uxie:setsLA: seems to be the new trend now days. When you play it from your hand, it activates it's :ppowr: Set Up, allowing you to draw until you have seven cards in your hand. You can always play a Seeker to get it back into your hand, or Super Scoop Up. And if you can spare a turn, attacking with Psychic Restore will put Uxie back in your deck. You will then be able to get it back out with a Dusk ball, Pokémon Collector, Pokémon Communication, Bebe's Search, Luxury Ball, etc. Then rinse, wash, and repeat :)

If you play fire decks, Ninetales HS is amazing drawpower.

Yes, but to be clear, it is nowhere near as good as Claydol was.

If your kids played competitively much they should have most of the cards they need to make a successful draw and search engine this format. Very little has changed. SP decks use 2-1 Uxie, 4 Cyrus, and the general spread of supporters - sometimes also with a Professor Oak's New Theory - and it works just fine. Evolution decks use a starter of some kind; Gyarados uses Sableye, and Vilegar uses Spiritomb. Other than that, they use the general 2 Uxies and some Vilegars also run Copycat.

Um, if you aren't sure about any of those cards or anything, don't worry, just ask ^^"

2 Uxie (occasionaly 2-1) is what most decks play for draw. Fire decks can play Ninetales HGSS. PONT can fit into most decks, and Engineer's Adjustment is also good in some decks - especially combined with Bronzong SF.

Ninetales HGSS is decent in fire decks, especially if you play a few (3-3).

But not better than 'dol.

And nothing was better than that Cosmic Chaos deck, we all know that.

Right?

Why not just use more draw supporters? Like Professor Oaks New Theory, Twins, Copycat, Cynthia's Feelings...

Twins is great for some slower decks. Copycat is in almost all of my decks. I love that card. Seeker lets you reuse Uxie if you need it. Recovery is easier with rescue energy. 2-1 Uxie is the standard and it works fine actually.

I'm suprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but Smeargle is a really good card that you might not know about. Since Unown Q gives it a free retreat cost, you can keep sending it active after one of your Pokemon is KO'd and use Portrait 5-6 times a game. It also lets you look at your opponent's hand which is a great bonus.
