Is Reshiboar still viable?

Reshiboar = BW Reshiram + Fandango Emboar

P.S. Please consider future sets. I was thinking about getting Reshiboar and using it over the next two years.

Forecast:

Kyurem, Vanniluxe, and Seismitoad are expected to make water see a lot more play. Expect showers.
New fire-weak gimmick decks: Cobalion tank and Durant milling. If either of these turn out viable, it'll be a good day for fire. (not likely, though)
Basics now have their own Rainbow energy, retreat-dropping stadium, and permanent Defender. Expect evolved attackers to see less play.
Mewtwo EX is expected to become the new A-list deck. He was powerful enough before Gardevoir was revealed.
Archeon locks will be attempted. If this works out, the metagame will take a drastic shift.
Fliptini is a complete wildcard at this point.
Leavanny: coming soon to a bench near you.
A new Cincinno that probably won't be used at tournaments, but will cause lots of rage at smaller events.
Two new search trainers for times when 4 Communications just isn't enough.
A supporter that lets you grab 3 energy. Emboar's gonna love this one.
Hydreigon and Chandallure were popular enough in Japan to get shiny reprints in PD/HB. Best to keep an eye on them.

Those are most of the cards expected to affect the metagame in the next two sets. Whether or not Reshiboar will still be viable in a few months, much less a few years, is up to you.

Reshiboar is one of the best decks around right now.

But for the next two years? That is asking way too much.

During that time, sets will be rotated out of the format, and cards will come along that don't even exist right now. Two years ago, no-one knew anything about Yanmega or Magnezone, never mind stuff like Reshiram, Zekrom, or Gothitelle. Now those decks are dominating the format.

You just cannot predict that far in advance, but I would say it's highly unlikely that ANY deck you can build right now would be viable in two years time. Even Luxchomp didn't last that long.

Even so, that's still asking too much.

If/when HGSS is rotated, Reshiboar will lose Fisherman: a key card in deck. Of course there's a possibility it will be reprinted in some form, but who knows?

We have a idea of the cards we will get for the next 2-3 sets (depending on how they do it), but beyond that? No clue. Even with the knowledge we have, it's very difficult to predict what will and won't be viable.

The life of a deck is almost never two seasons (bear in mind Reshiboar has already been around since April 2011). I can't think of any time that has happened in the last 5 years of Pokemon.

EDIT

What I'm saying is that Reshiboar is a good deck now. It will probably be at least playable (with modifications) through City and maybe State Championships . . . after that there is no way of telling, but history says no.

Reshiram/Emboar (Rambo) is still a viable deck choice. Went 5-2 in Masters in a BR yesterday. It's got all it needs to tango against trainer lock with Fisherman, Twins, and surprisingly, Elm's Training Method.

It placed second at todays BR in my area and knocked me out of top 4 with Gothitelle. It also went undefeated in swiss losing top 2 to Prime Time. So yeh I'd say it's viable.

ReshiBoar is still viable, anyone who says it isn't hasn't seen Pooka's build. It's super consistent.

As for it being viable over the next few years... Well, not in its current form. However, Reshiram EX is 100% broken and will probably end up being the BDIF. So yes.

Not to troll, but......

Zekrom EX is far better. Reshiram has a couple potential set backs.

Zekrom EX is not any more broken than Reshiram EX.

As for ReshiBoar, right now tyRam is a bit better against the general meta. However, if Item-lock gets bigger, ReshiBoar will have the advantage.

Except Reshiram can potentially deal up to 50 to itself, leaving it OHKO range of a lot of the current meta.

Zekrom can burn a DCE for 150, and is playable in fire decks (cough Reshiboar) as a tech against water since it says you discard two "Energy," which means you can burn two fire as well for a straight 150....

People already play lightning in reshiboar for RDL, so now you have something with 40 more hp, abuses eviolite, searchable through collector, and counters your weakness.

I'm curious to see pookas list, could someone point me in the right direction?

On the front page, ness has a video type article on reshiboar. His list is kinda similar to pooka's. Look under "Watch a game I played on Pokémon TCGO" or something like that.

P.S. I also won a BR with a list based on Ness's skeleton.

He's played it on the Top Cut stream a number of times. I don't think he's posted the actual list anywhere, but if you watch a couple of the recorded streams you should be able to get an idea of the list.

Good deck for now, but expecting it to last into next year, that's not very practical. Hell, expecting any deck to last and work for more than a year is really pushing it, as newer and better cards are always popping up, which most decks can't match. Very few can stand the test of time given rotations and everything else potentially knocking out key cards.

Nothing personal here but RAMBO was a deck from 2005.

While it was also a Fire deck, it had no pigs in it.

It's a great deck, I've won 2 tournaments in a row(In masters) with it so far. Only very bad matchup I can think of is that MewVileplumeMuk thingy.
