Well I once played pokemon. Yes it was fun, yes I liked going. But I souldn't have quit. I haven't played for... about a year and I was wondering if anyone was left at york. We had a great thing going. If anyone I knew still plays please respond, Thanks

Well i don't live in Ohio, but i am friends with Chris Fulop. They still play there as far as i know and it is stilll going strong. They are getting Sat. Tourneys underway again. Go check it out.

There are a lot of people left but there has been a problem with getting people to supervise lately. It seems that the problem has been fixed for awhile at least. However there is no more league atleast until January sometime.

Things change. People's live's change, along with responsibilities. From what I have heard, things are tenuous at best at York, mostly due to unruly behavior from the older players. Some of these same players have seemed for the longest time to assume that voluntary adult "supervision" was a given. Maybe they even assumed that there were reasons why some of us continued to show up week after week, tournament after tournament that went beyond just our love of the game or our commitment to spend time with our own children, doing what we all loved. A good number of the older players at York are well capable of supervising themselves, and have had ample opportunity to prove that they are mature enough and responsible enough to make those that matter most trust in their continued participation. These people would be the store's owner, it's employees and the parents of the younger players. It remains to be seen if any adults willing to sacrifice their free time to "supervise" these players will continue to be allowed to do so, or even willing to do so. I only hope, for York League's sake, that it is not already too late, that the damage done is already too great.
I miss it. I miss some of the people. There is a lot of it I don't miss however, and that is sad too. Myself and Becky put up with a lot to keep that place rolling. I still spend a great deal of time with my son (travel baseball winter training pitching/hitting lessons and team camp every Saturday) so another activity has stepped in to fill that void for me.

As I promised York here is her message for all to read.

I was walking in the great forest and I find the dauntless York sprawled upon the earth. I steadily move closer picking up a stick; cautiously I render a gentle nudge. York lay stagnant. Oh woe is me, is the demise of York true? With disbelief I jab at York……

What are you doing? Why are you prodding me? I stand stunted my legs unyielding to the minds orders to run. You’re alive! Oh I see, I understand, says York. The news of my death has been greatly exaggerated.

While I have been limited in my duties this last year I have not given up my position. I am on a quest in the forest of Torment. I have learned twice of the failure of those who I entrusted my beloved children, for that I am greatly sorry. As I finish my quest and regain my straight I will continue to find a way to give the children what they need. So please do not listen to the naysayer. If I have not spoken of the demise of our great gathering place do not panic, just wait for me to send word. I will not abandon you without good cause.

I will share your message; your children will be waiting fervently for your return.

I am sure this all sounds very confusing and it is time for me to speak up and clear things up.
I only post when I feel that it is incumbent on me to do so.
I have run York League since it moved from Toys R Us to York. I have always enjoyed league. I like the players, I like the parents.
My life has changed significantly in the past year. Not all change is bad and not all change is good but change is inevitable and is something that everyone deals with in their own way.
Pokenaut left league for his own reasons and I understand them and respect his decision.
However he was a co-leader and he was there all the time and covered many meetings when it was impossible for me to do them. When he left it became very difficult, especially under the circumstances that I am currently living under, for me to pick up the slack and continue league with any certainty from week to week. This is what necessitated my cancelling league for a period of time. I had hoped that by now things in my life would have settled into a more calm atmosphere but that is not the case.
I take my responsibility for league very seriously, perhaps too seriously in some peoples' eyes.
I also take the blame for the uncertain schedule and other problems that have cropped up at York. It is my responsibility to make sure that those problems are corrected and I will.
Nothing has changed except the presence of some people. The league is still there, the players are still there, and there will be a league at York as long as the players are still playing.
The league is about the players.
So in answer to the question originally asked in this post, yes, there are still players at York and York is still exactly where it was.
Our next meeting is January 10th. League is from noon to 5pm.
There is a sanctioned tournament and it begins at 1pm.
So to all the old players who may want to return and to the new players whom I have been receiving emails from come and play cause that is what it is all about.
Just because it has been quiet doesn't mean it has disappeared.
We are simply.... restructuring.

I know it is bad form to reply to one's reply but I made some omissions and perhaps the tone of my last post can be mistinterpreted so I feel the need to clarify things.
First of all, I agree 100% with the points that Pokenaut made in his post, he speaks to the need of the players, their parents and other interested adults, in assuming responsibility for the continued success of the league.
This is a very valid point. The point I meant to stress and which perhaps was lost in the rest of the post was that the players are the league. League doesn't belong to any one person and it doesn't matter who is running it as long as they do the best they can to make sure things are done properly and order is maintained. The League belongs to York. It is the store owner's league and what becomes of it is based ultimately on his decisions, no one else's.
The players and parents are more than capable of continuing the league. My continued involvement with the league will be very short-lived.
I did not intend to negate any of Pokenaut's points and if I did, then I retract those statements.
The point I was trying to make was that the league at York will continue regardless of who is there and I hope it continues for a very long time. Both Pokenaut and myself did, as I am sure all League Leaders do, put an awful lot of time and energy, all strictly voluntary, into York. I too have many things I will miss about it. But there are also many things that I am glad to see an ending to.
I cannot post that league will continue weekly. I cannot give anyone a schedule or any further informantion beyond the Jan 10th date. I am trying to make the transition as easy as possible. That is what I meant by restructuring.
