IVs?

Umm...I don't wana sound stupid, but what are IVs? I lokked on Gamefaqs and they didn't have a guide or explaination. Could someone help me out?

Every Pokemon has an IV for each of its six stats. The higher an IV, the higher the stat. At Lv100, you can add the IV to the stat to get the stat. At Lv50, add half of it. And so on. Each IV ranges from 0 to 31, and is determined randomly.
