Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

J-Wittz's 5th Place 2011 World Championships Report

I suffered a round 1 loss and all of my opponents did poorly throughout the event so my tie breakers were really bad. Had I won against Ross in r7 I'd have gotten 21st. So I scooped to Ross because he started 4-0 and could make top 16 due to good resistance. Glad he made the most of it! Well, second most ;) And awesome job Josh. ( Your josh, I'm not calling you Jwittz :p ) You really, REALLY stepped up your game this season :) Fantastic job not just at worlds but for the year as a whole.

Thanks Chris, it means a lot coming from you! (I'm calling you Chris, not Ruiner : P). As I said in the long-winded video, and to you personally from time to time, I couldn't have developed if I didn't have your lists and theory to study up on. Good luck in the future of a Judge for our game if that's the decision you make!

I hope you don't get too much flak for scooping to Ross (actually, I hope you don't get any at all!). 1--I personally think it was a pretty noble endeavor, considering how clear you've made it that you're stepping down from competitive play at the end of the season, and 2-- you've suffered way too hard at the hands of random PokeDrama. I hope that a Zone/Boar list winning worlds squashes anything left of that : P

Incredible job, josh! I propped you in my props as well :)

in your video "he benched a yanma, solosis, zekrom, and I was just straight up confused" made me laugh because it must've been so awkward at first!

Gratz and hope to see ya at nats!

did I really say yanma? Whoops if I actually did! IIRC, he Pichu'd into 2 solosis, 2 oddish, and zekrom. Strangely enough, it didn't really phase me as much as when Curtis Lyon started with a horsea+vulpix lol. Must have just been because it was my first game, and by the time I played Ross there was SO much hype and mystery about his deck that I was expecting the unexpected. I think the biggest jaw drop for me is when he dropped the SEL a few turns before time. I just shook my head and laughed knowing I was playing something truly unique.

Congrats on grinding in! I hope I never have to do it myself--that format was cutthroat and I couldn't handle that stress!

Congrats Josh. It's inspiring to see somebody who cares so much about the community perform so well. Fresh faces like you and David Cohen are exactly what the game needs.

Best of luck next year!

David Cohen got Second in 2009 :/, nice job Josh I wish I wouldn't have ran as hot as you did :)

Thanks man! If it wasn't for seeing the value of consistency from your guys' lists I probably wouldn't have ended up where I did. See you around the next season!

Congratulations on a great season, Josh. Clearly all your hard work and all the time you put into the game has paid off. I'm sure I'll see you soon! Also, thanks for doing an interview with us.

I remember; he played Flygon Lock. That was in Seniors, though.

It might've been seniors, but you said fresh new faces....he's been around for a while. He finished the 2009-2010 season in the top 10 of ratings. Then obviously somewhere within the top 40 this year for his invite. The whole point is, he isn't a fresh new face, he's just continuing what he was doing.

Also congrats on coming in 5th, Josh

Very good job! When i heard you were in top 16 i was hoping you'd go all the way, but reguardless you did SO WELL. Its a shame we didnt get to play, but sometime in the near future we will ;)

Congrats on 5th Josh. Way to represent the Midwest. :thumb:

I gave Renae some Hoppips, Skiplooms, and Jumpluff when you were playing top 8, so I hope you like those.
I am looking forward to possibly getting to play you next year in Illinois tournaments. :thumb:

Thanks, it means a lot coming from top players like you : ). Maybe I can extend my streak on to next year's nationals and see you there! In the meantime, I hope you don't steal too many city/state medals from me : P.

The interview with TheTopCut was my pleasure. I feel like you guys opened a HUGE door this year that can only help things progress as time goes on. Can't wait to see my recorded matches, even if game 2 vs. Dolezal in top cut is just going to make us both wince -__-

Thanks Justin! I really wanted to get some experience so that I could have some experience vs. Reshiram and had to finish those games first, but having literally 0 games logged vs. Zekrom scared me and I wanted to fit you in if I was still around. Luckily I beat the one Zekrom I played and ended 5-2 against Reshiram, so maybe I got the games I needed to test in after all : P. Good luck next season!

I also forgot to thank you for providing updates via your twitter account. Those really did help me put together the Worlds top cut thread. Your updates always helped fill in the little bits of info I was missing.

Congrats yet again!

I'm glad it helped! I had no wifi so just had to go off regular sms text messages sent to facebook. In the future if I ever get a smart phone or just go somewhere with internet, I could at least respond to questions and post more of what I know too.

Thanks for the hoppips and friends! Renae handed them to me and told me they were from a kind kid, but I didn't know who to thank! See you next season in Illinois!
