Lørenskog CC report (from Norway :D)

First of all: In Norway (edit: and in the rest of Europe), we play best-of-three matches, at least for CCs. This is mostly to hinder Kingdra and other donkers from winning too much. The time limit is 45 minutes.

I, my brother Syver, and our friends Oscar (ssj goten) and Philip, started driving too Lørenskog at 14.55 (2.55 p.m., if you didn't understand) Friday afternoon. There was a lot of traffic (and snow too!), but we still managed to be at the there at 4 o'clock, half an hour before the tournament started. After much to long time of waiting the registration was over, and the tourney begun. I decided to use my newly built Metagross/Leafeon Lv. X-deck with four Unown G for the tourney, because I was tired of using Kingdra. I play in senior.

4 rounds, top 2 in senior and masters.

Round 1 vs Philip L. (Kingdra w/Metagross tech)
Great, I meet my friend Philip in the first match of the tournament. :nonono:

Game 1
He gets perfect setup, t1 Kingdra and t2 Claydol. I do a fatal misplay in the beginning, which maybe costs me the game; I start setting up Metagross instead of Leafeon Lv. X, and he of course just knocks my 'Gross out of the way. I am not able to come back, so I scoop a few turns later.
(0-1)

Game 2
This time I get a good start, except that I start with Unown G (next round, I attach an Unown G to Unown G, which we both find hilarous. (We are sooo funny xD). He does not get as good start as last time, and this time I set up a Leafeon Lv. X. We play very even, but in the end I am able to grab my last prizes and win the game 0-2.
(1-1)

Right before we start game 3, time is called, so we only play with one prize each.

Game 3
T1 Kingdra-donk.
(1-2)

0-1
Well, that was my chance to get to top 2. Anyways, I play on.

Round 2 vs Christian R. H. (Dusknoir/Gengar)

Game 1
I start with Unown G, but draw Baltoy t1, and I get Claydol t2. He gets a t3 Dusknoir Lv. X, Dusknoir and Gengar. I scoop when I run out of counterstadiums to 'Noir Lv. X.
(0-1)

Game 2
I have both Baltoys prized, and I serioulsy consider to give up. Still, I don't, and even though I only have Claydol up for one round of the game, I draw 5 prizes. That was only thanks to a t3 fully loaded Metagross (and my four Unown G, of course), which plucked down his Pokés one after the other. I am however not able to win, because he snipes down my bench with his Dusknoir Lv. X and Dusknoir #17.
(0-2)

0-2
I'd never thought that my deck and I was so bad. :nonono:

Round 3 vs Henrik (Blaziken/Charizard/Entei)
Of all beginners at the tourney, why do I need to meet the one with a Fire deck?

Game 1
He gets t3 Blaziken ... but I immediately recognize it as a fake. I call the HJ, who rules that he is allowed to finish the match, but that he has to get all of his fake cards (it was like 15 of them) replaced with real ones afterwards. I feel bad for him, but we play on. I actually have problems winning because he always lucksacks at his draws, and because of my weakness, but in the end there is no question who should win.
(1-0)

Game 2
Pretty much the same as the last, he gets t3 Blaziken, but I fight him down (I forgot to attack once, and that almost cost me the game).
(2-0)

1-2
Well, I maybe saved some points. I say "maybe" bacause I think he was junior. >.<

Round 4 vs Alexander P. (Froslass/Bronzong aka Northern Lights)
Game 1
He gets a much better start than me, but I draw into Claydol after a while. By then, he is already up 6-4, but I get setup, and it gets really even. When he has three prizes left, I only have three Pokémon in play. And guess who's attached to all of them? Unown G. The only things he can do is attacking my Metagross for 30 (I had special Metal attached to it), or do a total of 30 with Bronzong's Body. He really has no chance of getting back, and I knock his Pokémon one after the other.
(1-0)

Game 1 took really long time, and when we started game 2 time was called, so I win.

2-2
Man, I suck. But it was great fun playing something completely different for once!

Props

- Unown G!
- My brother Syver winning in junior.
- My friend Philip winning in senior.
- My friend Oscar borrowing me a Metagross.
- red face paint decks.

Slops

- I suck.
- Kingdra-donk.
- Coming home at 22.30 (10.30 p.m)
- My father being angry because the tourney took so long. :p

I'm sorry to hear that the length of the tourney angered your father. I can understand his frustration. However, I would like to remind you that not only Norway, but all countries in Europe go by this rule for this event series. You can see a discussion here.

I'm glad you had fun with an original deck, and congrats to Syver for winning. I think it's so much fun how Syver and Emil always both go X-1 at all tourneys, and the winner of the tourney becomes the one of the two who beat the other. XD Emil was lucky at Lambertseter, Syver deserved the win at Lørenskog - especially considering he learnt to master a difficult new deck in just 6 days!! The Junior players impress me. :)

Emil always has fun playing Syver at tournaments, we look forward to 2008's last two face-offs on Saturday and Sunday!

You're awesome Knut :D
Thanks :D

Oh, hadn't seen that one. Anyway, I don't really like the concept.

Yeah, it is always exciting to watch those two play.

Well, you know who's going to win... :p
Wow, Metagross must be popular in Norway...
Not really. It is like only me and my friend Philip who uses it, and Philip's only using one as a tech.

I agree, Zyklon. The match play idea has many flaws. The removal of the "lose the whole match due to bad starting hand" effect has been removed, though (So we decreased the amount of lucksacking winners). And that's a HUGE change. But likewise, the time issue is a HUGE problem.

I do?
Well, if there's any pattern, Emil wins on Saturday and Syver on Sunday. :) Because:

ASKER BR: Emil
DESUCON: Syver
LAMBERTSETER: Emil
LØRENSKOG: Syver

They beat each other alternately. ;D

You'd probably still lose if you get a bad start in the first match, and we haven't got rid of lucksacks yet (Markus vs Tord, double t1 Sableye, Markus wins match 2-0). And the time is really a problem, even though each round is only +5 minutes.

Details, details. Syver will win anyday (which will only be Sunday, 'cause he's not able to participate at Vinterbro). :p

JK, it will be exciting once again at Sunday, but Emil has a pretty safe win at Saturday.

lucksack??

thats skilz

but the time is a problem if the tourney starts late, like Lørenskog. but if you starts early in the morning it shouldt be a problem ;)
