Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Landshark

Re-read Guard Claw again. It only prevents damage done to Garchomp. Kingdra does 40/20, 60/20 with Belt. Where does the extra 20/20 redux come from?

He uses Nidoqueen. The extra damage reduction is assuming he has Queen in play.

Also, great article Stephen! I still hate this deck because you beat me... It was supposed to be an auto win. :[ Hopefully you can do well in upcoming Cities with this. :D

Its already been beaten to heck by everyone else, but the Nidoqueen removes the additional 20.

Kingdra was a great matchup for Garchomp before Expert Belt because it literally did no damage whatsoever. Now its a little more in Kingdra's favor as it hits heavier faster. But its definitely not 80-20 or 70-30. Thats a little bit ridiculous. I think against Kingdra the first time I made this deck I literally won every single game I played against it. (this was pre-Arceus)

Trust me, its winnable, and if it gets into the late game, you beat it every time.

I'm not sure how popular Tyranitar is, but there's a decent T-Tar deck at my league, and it just completely shreds Garchomp. It's sad. =\

I have T-tar made as well and it literally just obliterates Garchomp. You cant speed impact it, and it goes through the guard claw by finding alternative ways to kill you.

Nice, I think the Beedrill is kind of off,(I say this about most Article's :p) Beedrill's can find a way around the OHKO Part, with Expert Belt/PP. Making it a OHKO and Garchomp wouldn't be able to OHKO the Bee. Which that would throw it into Beedrilll's Favor.

I do kind of agree, you can't just spam KOs on Beedrill, you'd have to Guard Claw + Expert Belt to avoid most KOs, and they still 2HKO you and recover faster than you do.

ugh...for the ttar use a pop 9 garchomp...
i have this deck and it has exellent matchups against everything...except for the nasty filthy power and/or body lock decks...but maybe teching in a dusknoir wouldnt be a bad idea

I tried your deck out and love it. I use to use garchomp with luxray gl, but was not winning with it as i should. I love this deck, but i came across a deck I just hate. I was going against a deck that uses spiritomb to stop trainers and gliscor lx to paralyze, poison and burn you every turn and bringing out spiritomb which you can tell is very, very annoying.

Totally didn't read your match-ups when I first read this article, so I just wanted to comment on Gyara

Gyarados (40/60)

This is a HARD matchup. But its very winnable too. This is the true epitome of patience. You can be down 3 prizes and still pull back to beat this deck, but you need to be able to cycle Garchomps and even be ready to sacrifice things if needed. Spiritomb won't do you that much against this deck as Spiritomb locks during the early game. When you go to knock out Gyarados', you won't have a Spiritomb there to stop the Pokemon Rescue, which means one will come back pretty much every single time. And as tempted as you may be to start Speed Impacting to one shot it, realise that you can slowly kill them just as fast as they whittle you down. If you do some smart math, you can keep your Garchomps alive while cycling them back and forth while Queen heals them up. Just don't forget that you can see some Crobat G's, so play Devil's advocate as needed and keep track of Poketurns and Crobat G's as well as bench space. This matchup is complete patience. Do NOT Speed Impact at all. The other problem this matchup poses is that Gyarados will run Warp Points and Cyclone's to keep you from staying in the active position for too long. It prides itself on that free kill strategy listed above, so be ready for that. This game will be long as Gyarados sports 130 nasty HP's and will be laying some hurt on you throughout the entire game.

I do think that Gyara is like one of the hardest match-ups here, but I think Spiritomb can go to more use if you play it right. Two turns of Expert'd Guard Claws should leave Gyara at 120, then you can freely retreat out to Uxie and push it under your deck FTKO to promote Spiritomb. This can get Garchomp ahead a turn (unless they run Palmer/Suicune), which is amazing against Gyara. I'd even go as far as benching a 2nd Tomb just to avoid Regice plays because this helps so much, lol. Next turn you'd probably be back to attacking with Chomp and your lock will be gone, but you're probably a turn ahead now. But even against Palmer/Suicune, they can only do that so many times... so eventually you're doing some harm.

Still a tough match though, I'd say. And I don't think I've told ya good job on the article yet, so I'll do that now :p Way to bring some quality to the front page.

I some people may know this by now but my garchomp deck just makes more sense than this one i think see in the artical you didnt mention about garchomp x i mean its pretty much there for 10 hp? its rare to see a pokemon hanging on be 10 hp and you didnt mention about its attack restore see my deck hase second evolution cards that dont have any of the lower evoultions for it i have felcitys drawing and volkners philphey i dont have claydoll in there here's a good stratige i have in there when i level up i mostley put damage counters on there pokemon most likely with dragons breath then i restore amprose from platnuim now they can use pokemon power on there bench unless they have nidoqueen or dialga g if this was the case i would do it if nido queen was set up there and same thing with dialga g i also have gengar x witch that could end that match just in a couple of turns if i used compound pain.

What do you think about running it with plus powers? I've found that I typically end up short of a 1HKO by ten, occasionally 20 damage.....personally, I would love to try it, but i have no idea what to take out to make room. Any suggestions?
