I was just wondering when this information would be available? Worlds is in 3 months and I am curious to know if the LCQ will be 2/3 single elimination again. So, far the only thing that is in writing is 8 guarenteed invites.

Yep, it's confirmed on the official site

Go here and scroll down to where it mentions the LCQ and the guaranteed 8 invites for each division.

Probably best to check before guessing incorrectly, JandPDS.

Last year, during my top 16 LCQ match, they announced that all 16 made it in. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it again but no promises ;)

They did that last year because they were way behind schedule. I agree that probably wont happen again.

Known fact or assumption?

Because your track record on assumptions about the LCQ is very poor.

The general assumption about last year is that they did it because the JPN qualifiers, which would have given out 8 invites, were cancelled.

Since there's lots of idle speculation here, here's mine, as lethargically idle as anyone else's:

The purpose of the LCQ is to give players continuous hope of going to the world championship. The season begins and all players have hope of getting enough CPs for an invite. Later in the season, that CP hope is gone for most players, but they still have hope of getting an invite though victory at a national championship. After that hope is gone, they still have hope of entering via the LCQ, on the day before the world championship begins. It's a way of generating continuing interest in the game.

(And it would be even better if there were other alternate paths available.)
