or the buyer canceled the listing instantly and it didnt actually sell
 
I actually know this guy! I've done business with him outside of eBay twice now, both times being for purchases worth over $1,000. He even sent them to me up front and let me pay over time on faith alone.

His mother was apparently a big TO and he managed to get thee in his personal collection.
They were, according to him, never released to the public. You can see that in the description and what not. Actually a pretty neat collection piece.
 
I think the question was not "why did it sell for so much" but rather, why did it sell for so little!
There are only about of dozen or two of those in distribution.
 
I think it has to do with the foot traffic of the auction.
Plus I don't think there are too many people searching daily for Lati@s deckboxes, and if they do, well I'm sure they're looking for the sketch ones.
 
For what it is worth, on the value debate, I have had NO problem selling these at $150. Last one I posted for $150 sold within 1 hour.

I would say $300-$400 is a very reasonable value to place on this item.
