i run a very giving league on the south side of town, where i grew up. i know what it's like to not have the fun things that you want as a kid, so i try and be very giving with the kids that cannot afford their own decks; heck, i am with all the kids.

yesterday's league i was doing a promotion where the 1st 5 kids that brought someone new got a pack of legends awakened from me, out of my own pocket, of course.

four kids brought new players with them. of the four kids that reveived the boosters, not a single one of them said thanks. so be it. not a one of them picked up their trash, one of the kids lied to me about it not being his trash, and i later caught him, after he pulled & sold a magnezone lvl x for $20, stealing cards from me. he does not get to return.

i know that kids are all id, and these kids do not have the benefit of good households, but this really broke my heart. that $20 that i spent was my fun money for the week.

i don't want/need to be a martyr, but it made me feel pretty gross.

That's some kids for ya.

Wasn't anything you did wrong, I'd bet my paycheck that not one of those kids ever says thanks for anything their parents give them.

My personal pet peeve is when you say to a kid, "how about saying thank you?" And they look at you like you just grew a second head. Makes you want to take back what you just gave to them and say "until you can be thank for what you get, you get nothing"

I would have felt the exact same way. Doing something out of the kindness of your heart, and to be stabbed in the back like that. Wow. I certainly would never want to do something like that for my league again....especially when there is obviously not a sign of appreciation there.

yeah, that makes me sad, Good people like you should be rewarded for giving to the less fortunate, but one little word will help you, Karma. i am not trying to defend them, but i can see what they may be thinking, growing up they probably were taught to fend for themselves, no matter who they hurt. but please, dont stop giving, eventually the luck will turn your way

i'm a nice guy. it's always been my policy to continue giving no matter how people react, whether for good or ill. these days it often means lowering my head and chugging forward no matter what.

i just wanted to speak my mind to individuals that might understand the situation.

and the weird thing: i feel bad about removing a kid from league, but theft is the one thing in my league that will get you a permanent ban; everything else is a leave for the day penalty, but i've never even had to use that. i will look on the bright side: i've not had to remove or suspend any of my players before now.

thanks for listening

Let me say it for them then, Plebian.

Thanks for doing what you do for those kids.

At times like this, I always try to remember those kids who are so excited to be able to play the game and get that little spark in their eyes when they earn a P.O.P. pack

so one of those kids stole a pack of your cards, got a magnezone X, then sold that for $20? sorry im a little confused. >.<

EDIT: a kid got a free pack and got the magnezone X that he sold for $20, then stole cars after? i think thats it.

Bummer plebeianprint,

I appreciate you putting yourself out there. Don't feel bad about the ban, that's not the kid you want
or need in the league. For every guy like that, I'm sure many more are benefitting from you providing
a place to learn, play and have fun, even if their mama's didn't teach them to say thanks. Keep on!

It's tough being the tough guy, but I think you handled that well. I too like good manners. No matter how old or young you are, a hearty thank-you is welcomed.

QFT, You made the right call, don't second guess yourself. My banning one kid you made it alot safer for everyone.

You don't see the big picture.

Not many leauge leaders will pull $20 out of their pocket to give stiff to kids must because they bring in new members. To see a kid sell a card he gets from it,not thank the guy and then leave his trash is a sign of disgust. What this leader is showing is that kids stole money from his pocket by not thanking him, leaving trash and showing disrespect after all he did.

Its yes given to the kid but it fells stolen when the kid acts like that. I can cope with the leader because when we had tourneys in Albany i gave stuff from my pocket to kids for showing up. I was thanked but its because kids were raised that way. I bet this kid and those others were never raised in a way to show respect for given things fort free. I'm sorry your leauge is like that and i hope it improves as time passes

it has been improving. there are some quality older players now, and i'm getting help from one of the parents now, which frees me up to help and almost play a game a week.

but to clarify, the kid actually did steal cards from me after all that. when it came time for him to leave, i saw him rummaging through my tin of older (non-modified) rares that i give the kids for bonus rewards). i knew what was up, so i walked over, and he was leaving with several of my cards in his hand.

this last week i had an unsanctioned tournament, and the experience was much better. everyone that won a prize said thanks, which made me feel better about my choice prizes. 1st place received a rhyperior tin and booster (dp or mt, cannot remember), pop 8 pack, and magnet. 2nd place i gave an eevee binder with darkrai and lucario lv x promo cards, two boosters, and one pop 8. 3rd place was two boosters, pop 8, and a jumbo dialga promo card.

i think that these are decent prizes for an unsanctioned tourney. and it might make me a chump, but i always try to treat others well, after the fashion of how i would like to be treated.

thanks.

dude, your awesome. i'm a kid, and i am raised to say please, thank you, and all of that stuff. but for a kid not to say thank you, leave out there trash, and then steal. shame on the parents, not the kids. i alwasy treat my leader with respect. heck, i treat all judges and league leaders with respect, even though they aren't mine. cuz i think of it like this. with out these people holding league, i would be playing with the 3 other kids in my town that i can clobber, other than my brother, who sometimes puts up a fight. you seem like a great man, and god bless.

It's really a shame...those kids are choosing NOT to rise above of their environment. Not cleaning up their trash, lying, selling something that was a gift...though, when you reach out sometimes they reach back out and it's worth it. Don't give up, do your best, don't despair!
