LeanPocketz Does Ada CC's

The night before Ada i lazily test different techs for gyarados...which is the obvious play at any event regardless of the amount of trainer lock. I test against LuxChomp, DialgaChomp, Mew, The Mirrior and Beedrill G (BDIF) and after moderate success/failure with each deck i decide on my techs and take the couch for the night. I wake up the next morning, grab a shower and get ready. We load up with T-Mas, Seth. and Austin to make the hour long trek to Ada. We arrive at the event to see a nice mix of decklists and find out only 2 Gyras are being played...Ours! After trying to convince Austin to play LuxChomp (which he still sticks with G-Dos b/c why not?) we get ready and wait for parings.

5 Rounds of Swiss With a Top 4

Round 1 Vs. Seth (Casa Del Gatos)

Its always nice playing someone that you test with and play every other day at an out of town event...
Not much to this game I get a nice start and a T2 DGX and without a solid DGX counter he scoops to shake it off and just move on.

1-0

Round 2 Vs. Michael (Gengar Kingdra)

On top of being one of the nicest players I've ever had the chance to play against. His deck was solid and I was impressed how well it worked. The basic strategy was to get a kingdra on the bench via speedy tactics, spray splash a pixie or other poke-power squishy and then shadow room it for the KO, not worrying about attacking the active and relying on fainting spell flips.
He made it amazingly difficult to get the magic 90 damage + 2 flash bites to avoid fainting spell but 2 tails on fainting spells sealed the deal for me.
This was a great game...Spoiler Alert! We play again in Top 4 :D

2-0

Lunch Break NOM NOM ARBYS NOM

Round 3 Vs. Jason (Typhlosion Magnezone)

I watched this deck play in the earlier rounds and was looking forward to playing it. The idea was to set up typhlosion and start getting fires on random pokes with afterburner. He powered up a magnezone prime with his amazing draw power (ninetails + magnezone prime) after a ran through a few of his fodders.
He finally manages to get magnezone active and swung for 150 with lost burn. I recover the gyra and swing right back with the help from bat turn shenanigans to return the favor.
At this point he began powering up another magnezone but slow like since both of us were expecting the other to play BTS (he kept his in hand i regimoved mine away) The key play that sealed the victory was a heads on a reversal to kill a magneton with 3 energy.
Great game man, like the concept.

3-0

Round 4 Vs. Master Prof. Birch (Machamp)
Being a seasoned veteran like himself Birch knew that this was pretty much an auto loss for him. Not to add insult to injury but a perfect sableye magikarp start and a T2 gyara swinging for 90 didn't help his cause...
Sorry man, really look forward to playing you again so we can have a more solid game.

4-0

Round 5 Vs. Austino (Gyarados Mirrior)
Austino ( yes THE Austino!) is a great friend of mine that I get the privledge to test against quite often. I hate playing him as he's the stronger player and always seems to pull it off despite his lack of coin flips!
I explode off the get go taking a nice prize lead but an unrealizing, yet vital misplay early on really hurt me... I regimoved away a pokemon rescue when i needed it the most late game.
Austin, being Austin, explodes right back making the prizes come down to 1-1.
It's coming down to the wire with only a few cards left in my deck, when I realize I need to recover my gyra he just knocked out...i whiff on having the recovery and he takes the game.
Amazing game Austin, the best we've had!

4-1

Top 4 is announced and its myself, Austin, Joel (vilegar), and Michael! I get paired with Michael and we get the best rematch of the century!

Top 4 Game 1 Vs. Michael (Gengar Kingdra)

This game plays similar to our previous one, Him flipping tails on fainting spell, me flipping 7 HEADS ON SSU...etc.
The terrible thing about playing against him is that i needed to get set up with the pixies...only to have them KO'd next turn via the shadow room spray splash combo.
He eventually outresources me and takes the victory. Again this was a great match. I really look forward to Playing you in Tulsa!

Game 2

Lone Uxie + 6 trainers that are not helpful (SSU, reversal, junk arm, poke turn) and no supporters for the 2 turns I had resulted in a quick victory for him.
Great Job You Deserve Top 2!

So I place 3rd, which I'm happy about and pull nothing out of my packs =/

Austin goes on to play Michael in Top 2, winning and securing his 2nd cities victory, T-Mas also takes home his 2nd medal of the series.

Thanks For Reading See You In Tulsa!

Great job dude! You sure picked up Gyarados quick and already top cutting. Glad to see the report.

Same here! Kurt will reck Tulsa. Sorry Austin lol. This is T-Mas, just to let you know! I did enjoy the christmas music the whole way home, especially with Seth singing and same with you. and of course, Austin was on his phone the whole entire phone..figures

Nicely done Kurt. I enjoyed watching your matches and you played well. As everyone is predicting wins for you, make sure you bring those "special" dice you were working. Heads on every flip (well not every but a good 80%)....... Michael said it best during the finals "My goodness!".

See you at the Tulsa double header.

Jeremy (judge)

LOL that was a great game in top 4, I really wasn't sure I was going to be able to pull the win, especially how you landed heads on ever super scoop up.
