Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Lost Kitty (Responds to Mewgar)

DarkStar: If you build the deck correctly, having Gengars in hand is a non-issue. Even with 2 in the deck.

hey i understand there are a lot of problems... but honestly i think zekrom is overhyped and you people need to stop trashing this obviously bdif XD

Can anyone just accept that this list is focused on consistency more than anything else. Decks only have so many slots so he chose to use them for consistency which for a front page article is a good thing. Stop bashing the guy and respect the time he put into this article.

What? This deck has no consistency. 9 Energy, Cleffa which doesn't even have a purpose, 3 collector, etc.

I have a very good friend that plays steelix, though you might think it will see little play it is the only deck that is an autowin against mewgar. Even with disruption, they will have no energy problems with skarmory and since you have to wait until the turn after lost zoning the sixth pkmn, steelix will continuously do 100 and discard lost world so a 95-5 match-up if not the full 100.

they wont play lost world till they can win the game and plus even if you can win against mewgar good luck vs fire...

mr. mime and slowking make for a frightening pair,
if you're judged or spiritombed into a bad hand, say goodbye to that game because they deny you everything if used properly.
if needed mew(s) could use cursed drop in order to take out a pesky zekrom.
this deck isn't the best but don't be surprised to see it sitting across from you at nats or worlds because if you blow it off and can't control the game, you lose.

@happiny13, i'd like to play your deck with no cleffas, i'll enjoy drawing a few extra cards at the beginning of the game because you can't get a basic in this format.

On the off chance that you prize both Gengars when you attempt to "See Off", you deserve to lose. This just proves that the list obviously isn't as tight as it should be, you have several spaces floating around. Do you know what I would do for even ONE free space in my Nats deck?

...

What I mean is..
You are weakening your deck by adding a "Dead Card" in 99 out of 100 games you will play. Sure, on that 100th game, you'll be glad you played the 3rd Gengar. But is it really worth those other 99 games when you could have had a free space for anything you'd like?
I would literally KILL for a free space right now.

Keep in mind that See Off requires that the card you send to the Lost Zone originate from your deck. You start the game with 7 cards in your hand and 6 in your prizes. On your very first turn you are required to draw a card. That's 14 deck slots.

Assuming that you do not mulligan, the probability of having no Gengar (Prime) in your deck at the beginning of turn 1 after you draw is...

24.14% if you play 1 Gengar
5.14% if you play 2 Gengar
1.06% if you play 3 Gengar
0.21% if you play 4 Gengar

Obviously, you can use Pokemon Communication, PONT, or even Judge to put Gengar(s) from your starting hand back into your deck, so the actual probability of being unable to See Off a Gengar altogether on turn 1 is going to be lower. From my experience, Mewgar builds without Mime Jr. do not suffer from "dead draws" by playing a 3rd Gengar. That's not to say that I'd put in 3rd Gengar in my build.

Playing a 3rd Gengar, in my opinion, is a style choice. It's merely a trade-off between the consistency of Seeing Off Gengar turn 1 and having the occasional dead draw.

Why dou not run a gengar line cause if you play against the mirrror match and they know what there doing, they set up a gengar and dont use see off and you then you cant use hurl into darknes.

I think Ditto does work in this deck. The fact that it is 40HP isn't an issue, if you haven't paid attention Mew is 60HP and the Baby is 30HP. Being bench locked is annoying and keeps pressure on the hand. If someone wants to snipe a 40 HP ditto, fine, that means something else isn't getting KO'd during the turn.

Are you kidding me, you list Zekrom as 70/30 in your favor? They get turn 1 120 on you and just sit there using outrage for the rest of the game. It's an autoloss, if you tested it you would know this which tells me you did not.

...Man. Big ups to this article. I've been testing it with some friends and I must say that it is great and works very well. I only made one tweak and that was to add another energy and a spiritomb. This list is very consistent and recovers from going second, which most of the times makes mew lose. Thanks a lot for your in-depth testing and fun nature with this deck. The hate for this build is crazy......

*shrug* it is what it is :p Glad you're having fun, that's the whole point :)

This is a very well written article, and a great deck as well, but its a risk to use with every deck going to be one hitting you. It's also a difficult deck to play well without extensive practice, so all of you newer players reading this, I suggest you look for a different deck for nationals unless you've already been playing with this.

haha why wuld anyone play mew gar
u lose to everything like 2-2 rdl
things that can do more than 60 damage and people who know how to play by time
its probbaly the worst deck u can run for nationals

This deck is a blast to play, we built it last night and my son who has been playing Ramboar for weeks and needed a refresh to get him back into testing, played me over and over with it. The best part about this deck is just how long Mime Jr. lasts and how many pokeman's the slowking/Mime Jr. combo sends to the lost zone! Its hilarious! Even for me when I was actually losing to this ridiculous deck! Thank you so much for bringing some fun back and actually making Mewgar somewhat viable, very cool. BTW, haters will hate. Test and then post... its fun. :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that cheerleaders cheer is great, I loved the smile on his face when he knew that he had a Pokemon on the top of my deck with a Mime Jr active and a mew on the bench and either way he was sending some Pokemon to the lost zone and knowing how frustrating that was for me, because I was just sure it was one I needed to keep up on prizes (i.e. Donphan, Reshiram, Zoroark, etc.).
