Here is a link to the thread where the question first popped up: http://www.pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17067

Magby's attack in question:
(C) Detour
If you have a Supporter card in play, use the effect on that card as the effect of this attack.

Steven's Advice(as quoted by someone on the other thread):
Draw a number of cards up to the number of your oppent's pokemon in play.
If you have more than 7 (changed to 6) cards (including this one), you can't play this card.

If you were to have 7+ cards in you hand, after playing the supporter, could you then use Detour to draw additional cards?

Another question posed on that thread was if that answer is no; what if you have 6 cards. Steven's Advice says to include this one. Do we actually have to count that as one of our 6 cards.

TIA and sorry if this is considered double posting as it is in the other thread, I just wanted an official answer.

I looked at the thread you referenced, and it appears that you figured out the answer yourselves by using similar rulings in the Compendium EX. It's too bad more people don't try to do that.

Anyway, the answer is yes, you may use Steven's Advice, even if you have too many cards in your hand, because you are not playing Stevens, it is already in play. You are only using the effect of the Supporter card again.
