Again, blatantly stolen from another board:

What song can you not stop listening to/fits your life right now/has special meaning for you at the moment?

Post the song title/artist/album/lyrics; try checking www.songlyrics.com if you need help finding them. Make sure the lyrics are acceptable under the 'Gym rules, please, before you post them...

My song of the moment with lyrics is "More Than This", Peter Gabriel (from Up); instrumental is a tie between "The Return of the King" from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King soundtrack and "Prinsengracht Extensions", DAC Crowell (from Red-shifted Harmonies, Magnatune.com).

More Than This

i woke up and the world outside was dark
all so quiet before the dawn
opened up the door and walked outside
the ground was cold

i walked until i couldn’t walk anymore
to a place i’d never been
there was something stirring in the air
in front of me, i could see

more than this
more than this
so much more than this
there is something else there
when all that you had has all gone
and more than this
i stand
feeling so connected
and i’m all there
right next to you

it started when i saw the ship go down
i saw them struggle in the sea
and suddenly the picture disappears
in front of me

now we’re busy making all our busy plans
on foundations built to last
but nothing fades as fast as the future
and nothing clings like the past, until we can see

more than this
more than this
so much more than this
there is something out there
more than this
it’s coming through
and more than this
i stand alone and so connected
and I’m all there
right next to you

oh then it’s alright
when with every day another bit falls away
oh but it’s still alright, alright, alright
and like words together we can make some sense

much more than this
way beyond imagination
much more than this
beyond the stars
with my head so full
so full of fractured pictures
and i’m all there
right next to you
so much more than this
there is something else there
when all that you had has all gone
and more than this
i’m alone
feeling so connected
and i’m all there right next to you

more than this
more than this
more than this
........

Weird...i had the exact same writing prompt for my written application to Honors English III...I picked Linkin Park's "Forgotton." I chose that song for a two reasons: first, i would be able to fill space with mumbo jumbo since i really wasnt feeling up to that prompt and second, i could actually write some personal things on it too. I wasnt sure i could fill the required space going on just how i liked the song (more specifically a stanza from it) so that's why i went with a depressing song..it gives you an excuse to fill space explaining why the song ain't so bad. Woops! Ain't ain't a word...must practice for Honers English III!

Linkin Park's "Forgotton" From the Hybrid Theory CD (I'll bold the stanza i focused my application on)

From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I’ve forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture is there
The memory won’t escape me
But why should I care

From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I’ve forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture is there
The memory won’t escape me
But why should I care

There’s a place so dark you can’t see the end
(Skies [rock] back) and shock that which can’t defend
The rain then sends dripping / an acidic question
Forcefully, the power of suggestion
Then with the eyes shut / looking though the rust and rot
And dust / a spot of light floods the floor
And pours over the rusted world of pretend
The eyes ease open and its dark again

From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I’ve forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture is there
The memory won’t escape me
But why should I care

In the memory you’ll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up

Moving all around / screaming of the ups and downs
Pollution manifested in perpetual sound
The wheels go round and the sunset creeps behind
Street lamps, chain-link and concrete
A little piece of paper with a picture drawn floats
On down the street till the wind is gone
The memory now is like the picture was then
When the paper’s crumpled up it can’t be perfect again

From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I’ve forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture is there
The memory won’t escape me
But why should I care

From the top to the bottom
Bottom to top I stop
At the core I’ve forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture is there
The memory won’t escape me
But why should I care

In the memory you’ll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

Now you got me caught in the act
You bring the thought back
I’m telling you that
I see it right through you

In the memory you’ll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up

In the memory, you will find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up

I've liked this song ever since I heard it in a Paramount pictures promo spot:

Holding Out For a Hero/Bonnie Tyler/Multiple albums

"Holding Out For a Hero" written by Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off feet

(chorus)

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me

Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood

(chorus)

I wrote a partial parody of this song called "I need a gyro."

This one has a deep spritual meaning for me. It makes my palms all sweaty and brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear it.

Hot SHot City (by David Hasselhoff)

When the sun goes down on a saturday night
You will find her on the street
In her red ferrari with her top pulled down
You can feel, you can feel the heat
Got her motor runnin' and the wind in her hair
She ain't got nothing to lose
And her skin tight jeans
He'll be the wreck of a man
She will give, she will give you the blues
She will give, she will give you the blues
Cool it down now cool it down
11 o'clock we're ready to rock
11 o'clock yeah we ready to rock

Hot shot city on a saturday night
We're gonna party down until the morning light
Hot shot city on a saturday night
We're hotter than rock'n' roll

She's burning baby in my soul
Check it out, check it out

Let your hair down baby
We've been rocking all night
Now the sun's coming over the hill
We like to sleep all day, like to party all night
Our love is like red hot steel
Our love is like red hot steel
Cool it down now cool it down
11 o'clock we're ready to rock
11 o'clock yeah we ready to rock

Hot shot city on a saturday night
We're gonna party down until the morning light
Hot shot city on a saturday night
We're hotter than rock'n' roll
She's burning baby in my soul
Check it out, check it out

Lyric threads always leave me at odds because with the exception of the occasional Weird Al CD, I very rarely listen to music with lyrics. There's nothing to identify with because my brain usually tunes out lyrics by nature.

I guess lately my favorite is my Smashing Live CD that came with Nintendo Power last year. Not really any one song. Just the whole CD.

This song means a lot to me. The message is quite simple: if nothing in life is going your way, and you're nearly giving up, you have to remember that people around you love you, and better times will come.

And just for the record, I'm feeling ok at the moment, so it's more the positive spirit of the song I'm relating my feelings to right now.

EELS - SOMEBODY LOVES YOU

woke up with a bang
and a bug on your face
it crawled in your mouth
and gave you a taste of
the good life you left behind
but i think you're gonna be fine

somebody loves you
and you're gonna make it through

this nagging malaise
is more than a phase
it feels like a job
but no boss ever pays you to lay there
and think how you'll die
while the tears start to well in your eyes

somebody loves you
and you're gonna make it through

one more saturday
all alone through the night
you've got to be sure
when you turn out that light
that it's going to turn on again
you've got to be your good friend

somebody loves you
and you're gonna make it through

Ever notice that a song usually means more to you when you are feeling bummed than when you are perky? Well, that seems to be the case with me. I never feel anything but happy-go-luckyness, but for the past few weeks, I've been loaded down with responsibility. I just feel torn.

You see, on the 25th I'll be going on a religious mission where I will recieve letters from home, but otherwise I'll be entirely focused on my work. No television, no games, no Pokémon. I've always wanted to do this and there is nothing that will change my mind. I just feel some longing for normalicy. This longing is nowhere near as strong as my longing for this mission.'

Thus today my song is "I'll Be Seeing You." I know it's from a musical, but I can't remember which. My favorite is the version by Barry Manilow. This song always reminds me of my mother who will probably not be alive by the time I get back. (She has terminal cancer and was given 2 months to live... That was 5 years ago, but she's still here.)

I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places,
That this heart of mine embraces
All day through.
In that small café.
The park across the way.
The childrens carousel.
The chestnet tree.
The wishing well.

And I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summers day,
In everything that's light and ***.
I'll always think of you that way.
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is through
I'll be looking at the moon,

Oh, but, I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day.
In everything that's light and ***.
I'll always think of you that way.
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is through
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.
I'll be seeing you.

Edit: It appears that the naughty word finders didn't like one of my lyrics. It is a three letter word that means happy and rhymes with day. I think you can figure it out.

The Shins - Kissing the Lipless

Called to see if your back
was still aligned and your sheets
were growing grass all on the corners of your bed

But you've got too much to wear on your sleeves
it has too much to do with me
and secretly I want to bury in the yard
the grey remains of a friendship scarred

You told us of your new life there
you got someone comin' around
gluing tinsel to your crown
he's got you talking pretty loud
you berate remember your ailing heart and your criminal eyes
you say you're still in love
if it's true what can be done
it's hard to leave all those moments behind

You tested your metal of doe's skin and petals
while kissing the lipless
who bleed all the sweetness away

Weezer - In the Garage

I've got Dungeon Master's Guide
I've got 12-sided die
I've got Kitty Pryde
And Nightcrawler too
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do

I've got posters on the wall
My favorite rock group Kiss
I've got Ace Frehley
I've got Peter Criss
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do

In the garage
I feel safe
No one cares about my ways
In the garage
Where I belong
No one hears me sing this song
In the garage

I've got an electric guitar
I play my stupid songs
I write these stupid words
And I love every one
Waiting there for me
Yes I do, I do

In the garage
I feel safe
No one cares about my ways
In the garage where I belong
No one hears me sing this song
In the garage
In the garage

In the garage
I feel safe
No one cares about my ways
In the garage
Where I belong
No one hears me sing this song
In the garage
I feel safe
No one laughs about my ways
In the garage
Where I belong
No one hears me
No one hears me
No one hears me
No one hears me
No one hears me sing this song

Well, me being a Linkin Park nut, I have to pick a song that is related to Linkin Park. I chose the Reanimation version of Pushing Me Away (which is called P5hing me A*way)

Linkin Park
"P5hing me A*way"
Reanimation

When I look into your eyes there’s nothing there to see
Nothing but my own mistakes staring back at me

Everything has to end
You’ll soon find that we’re out of time left to watch it all unwind
Everything falls apart
Even the people who never froun eventually break down
Everything has to end
You’ll soon find we’re out of time left to watch in all unwind
Everything falls apart
Even the people who never frown eventually break down

I’ve lied to you
This is the last smile that I’ll fake for the sake of being with you
Everything falls apart even
Even the people who never frown eventually break down
Everything has to end
You’ll soon find we’re out of time left to watch it all unwind
The sake of being with you
Everything falls apart
Even the people who never frown eventually break down
The sacrifice is never knowing

Why I stayed with you
Just push away
No matter what you see
You’re still so blind to me

Even the people who never frown eventually break down

I’ve tried, like you, to do everything you wanted to
This is the last time
That I’ll take the blame for the sake of being with you
Everything falls apart
Even the people who never frown eventually break down
The sacrifice of hiding in a lie
Everything has to end
You’ll soon find we’re out of time left to watch it all unwind
The sacrifice is never knowing

Why I stay with you
Just push away
No matter what you see
You’re still so blind to me

Reverse psychology is failing miserably
It’s so hard to be left all alone
Telling you is the only chance for me
There is nothing left but to turn and face you
When I look into your eyes there’s nothing there to see
Nothing but my own mistakes staring back at me
Asking why
The sacrifice of hiding in a lie
The sacrifice is never knowing

Why I stayed with you
Just push away
No matter what you see
You’re still so blind to me

Why I stayed with you
Just push away
No matter what you see
You’re still so blind to me

My Immortal

i'm so tired of being here
suppressed by all my childish fears
and if you have to leave
i wish that you would just leave
'cause your presence still lingers here
and it won't leave me alone

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

[chorus]
when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears
when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears
i held your hand through all of these years
but you still have
all of me

you used to captivate me
by your resonating life
now i'm bound by the life you left behind
your face it haunts
my once pleasant dreams
your voice it chased away
all the sanity in me

these wounds won't seem to heal
this pain is just too real
there's just too much that time cannot erase

[chorus]

i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
but though you're still with me
i've been alone all along

[chorus]

English translation

"Somehow, I've got to give the answer"
And with it, the weeds on this tongue just grow thicker

The shadows intersecting the pulse
Again winds up robbing someone of their mask

In the night
I sit down as if I'm dead

The fragments of my heart
Exploded and strewn
Glitter all around me
Since when have I
Become this weak?

Even when I become weak in the knees
I'm pretending that it doesn't bother me

This foolish disease of mine
Only grows worse and worse

In the night
I realize this infection

The fragments of my heart
Exploded and strewn
Glitter all around me
Since when have I
Become this weak?

Having started to fear
Every single little fever
Though the odds are stacked against me
I've got to get up

The fragments of my heart
Exploded and strewn
Glitter all around me
Since when have I
Become this weak?

The fragments of my heart, exploded and strewn
The fragments, the fragments, all around me

Since when have I
Become this weak?

Dumb-Nirvana
Unplugged in New York

I'm not like them
But I can pretend
The sun is gone
But I have a light
The day is done
But I'm having fun

I think I'm dumb
or maybe just happy
Think I'm just happy
my heart is broke
But I have some glue
help me inhale
And mend it with you
We'll float around]

And hang out on clouds
Then we'll come down
And I have a hangover...Have a hangover

Skin the sun
Fall asleep
Wish away
The soul is cheap
Lesson learned
Wish me luck
Soothe the burn
Wake me up

Listen to it there.

I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it 2 years ago I went through a divorce and now I'm remarried and couldn't be happier, and you know what that kinda scares the crap out of me.

So Far Away
By Staind

This is my life
it’s not what it was before
all these feelings I’ve shared
These are my dreams
that I’d never lived before
somebody shake me
cause I I must be sleeping

[Chorus]
Now that we're here, it's so far away
all the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes, one life contained
they all finally start to go away
Now that we're here its so far away
and I feel like I can face the day
I can forgive and I’m not ashamed
to be the person that I am today

These are my words
that I’ve never said before
I think I’m doing okay
This is the smile
that I’ve never shown before
somebody shake me
cause I I must be sleeping

[Chorus]
Now that we're here, it's so far away
all the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes, one life contained
they all finally start to go away
Now that we're here its so far away
and I feel like I can face the day
I can forgive and I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today

I’m so afraid of waking
please don't shake me
afraid of waking
please don't shake me

[Chorus]
Now that we're here, it's so far away
all the struggle we thought was in vain
All the mistakes, one life contained
they all finally start to go away
Now that we're here its so far away
and I feel like I can face the day
I can forgive and I’m not ashamed
To be the person that I am today
