Well, Mega Venesaur sucks.
It will never attack with those 4 energies.
Waste of card hype. But who knows, maybe in the future there will be other, greater mega evolutions.

Once again, Blue Flare >

We could be seeing energy accel for grass.

Perhaps vaporeon was contemplating something more akin to Blastoise or Emboar? If M Venusaur EX was actually M Blastoise EX (or whatever justification you need to make all the (G) Energy costs (W))... well it still wouldn't likely be "enough" because Deluge decks have Black Ballista for big hits, but it would still might be "better".

there has never and most likely will never be a pure energy acceleration like Deluge or Inferno Fandango. That goes logically against any elemental nature. You can have an over pour of water or fire in real life. But overwhelming grass, plants?

Weeds are kinda overwhelming plants, and are probably a more common problem in general than bushfires and floods. ;p

That being said, Grass has never had abilities that do this on a large scale. Stuff like Sceptile comes close, doubling what Grass energy provide, but in general, Grass acceleration tends to be attack-based, usually from the hand or Deck. (We can see this in cards like Shaymin EX, Virizion EX and Radiant Collection Snivy.)

In before we get a Tangrowth or something with Ingrain as an Ability. (IE, Dynamotor 2.0.) Something like Celebi Prime that could work from the bench would be nice as well as fitting well, though. I could totally see something like Cherrim or Sunflora getting a card like that eventually. No way they're going to get a Rain Dance, however. (Might get something along the lines of Stormfront Infernape's Blaze Dance or Great Encounters Togekiss's Serene Grace, but not a permanent spam energy as much as you like card.)

Miracle Gro. Logic would also dictate that my ice cream cones DOESNT have cannons in it.

I seem to recall a little Pokemon Power called "Wild Growth". I think it was on an NG Meganium and a GE Sceptile. I loved that Sceptile. The last Stage 2 deck that I could actually get to work consistently...

You mean like virizion?

So... not reading the rest of the thread? The comments before yours include this same question (and since you didn't add to it, you could have just thanked the original poster asking it to show your solidarity) and also those pointing out that not all Energy acceleration is the same and in context, that was likely what vaporeon meant (though at least you beat vapoeon confirming the matter).

I'll also add that thematically, any Type can justify Energy acceleration; some might have to refer to specific Pokémon. Doing it like Inferno Fandango or Deluge is trickier, but isn't much of a stretch.

Colorless - Tricky here: lunar influence?
Darkness - I think I'd call it "Nightfall".
Dragon - The ideas of Dragon's being mystical or noble things and having an inherently empowering spirit.
Fighting - Chi manipulation/warrior's spirit.
Fire - Already exists.
Grass - From hand? Fertilization or photosynthesis (the real world process).
Lightning - Lightning strikes? Power generators in general?
Metal - Meteorites? Steelworks? Magnetism?
Psychic - Unlocking the power of the mind/soul.
Water - Already exists.

There's more to fitting something thematically than a name... Your ideas for Fighting and Psychic aren't well-suited to a Rain Dance-type effect, for example. They feel more like one-offs like Blaze Dance/Serene Grace to me, a sudden massive burst of energy. Not a continuous stream. At a stretch, I guess a few like Grass or Flying-type Colorless Pokemon COULD get one, and I'll admit Lightning isn't too far fetched. But with the way they are represented in the TCG, it's almost definitely not going to happen.

Remember this is Pokémon. This is a TCG; strip away the Pokémon "skin" and you have a less exciting but still functional game. You could then re-skin it if you wish, though forcing something pre-existing probably won't work too well due to the compromises you would have to make. Making up something new to go with it? Still not "easy", but not especially difficult either.

What does it all represent even with the Pokémon "skin" plugged in? Some things are obvious: Pokémon are Pokémon, Items are "things", Supporters are "people"... though in that last part does that mean every time you play Professor Juniper she runs up to you (the trainer that has no direct in game representation) and... does what? What does your hand represent? What does Energy itself represent?

I gave names and loose justifications. If there is one thing, that's because it is both. The world of Pokémon is already so far over the top it is hard to tell if the setting is meant to be "four color" (references the old printing process of comic books, used to describe traditional western superhero settings), or "silly" (which I am using to describe something where the world "behaves" like Looney Toons animation). What does "Deluge" or "Inferno Fandango" represent... and is it any less silly than a martial artists that fuels attacks by not only manipulating his own chi but absorbing it from the world or even the universe around him? Tell it to Son Goku. ;)

TL;DR: In reality, you don't even need the justification - game mechanic is game mechanic. Most of us just like to think of the cards as Pokémon and not arbitrary rule sets. Is it a problem of just not liking the suggestions of others, when so much of the game is loose symbolism to begin with?

Its fair to expect the first batch of mega evolutions will be underwhelming, but rest assured in a few sets time. You'll be putting yourself at a disadvantage if you don't play them.

That isn't really encouraging, either. In fact, it is probably worse than them being "gimmick that never really worked" cards, a la Shining Pokémon, Pokémon LEGEND, etc.

If the first few really are awful, then the next bunch will be pretty attention grabbing. There's no way the big new deal for the franchise is just going to be swept under the rug.

I think what a lot of people fail to realize is that in any game something has to be made new in order to keep the attention of the retail aspect. A lot of people (especially young kids) buy the cards but don't actually go to tournaments at all.

That being said, every game comes out with something new. Each time something new comes out veteran players will debate it and a lot of them will not like the idea of any change at all (in any competitive game).

Some players will like it some players will not. I've been player for 10 years now and have heard these exact arguments throughout every single rotation.

I think it's good to speculate and debate these things, but not to be constantly criticizing every attempt at something new Pokemon comes up with.

Unfortunately not everyone can afford tropical beach, EX do seem a bit over powered, and our most recent set is mostly reprints.

However, this is a Trading Card Game not a customize-able card game. Is there not one positive thing we can find in Pokemon's attempts to appease it's players?

I had hoped the Mega Evolving mechanic would've been the same as the LV. X mechanic since they've been reprinting copies of older card abilities in new ones ex: Professor Sycamore, the new Delphox, rare Candy, etc. The massive amount of HP isn't new but is for the sake of not needing tools and other Pokemon Abilities to make it so.
