Mid Atlantic Regionals Report - Top 8

Lugia EX

Member
I drove about an hour to the academy where the tournament was held and I'm there before
registration starts.I play Mario Kart DS in my car until a few minutes before registration began. I
was running the only deck i've ever played since I used Ludicargo at a CC, went 1-3, and traded for
2 Banette EXs. The deck is Banette/Houndoom. I wasn't sure whether or not to play 1 space center.
After some looking around I saw a Latios EX in someones's deck and I figured that more were afoot,
so I dropped a fire for the space center.

Round 1:
Bye

I play some more Mario Kart DS until it's almost time for Round 2.

1-0

Round 2:
Michael Pramawat(Metanite)

I start off nice and am able to get a Banette EX and a Houndour early. He fills his bench with mentor
and I Houndoom/Frontier lock him. After that i'm able to freely sweep his board with Banette until he
pulls a DX Metagross. Super conectivity, attach, link blast for KO. I wanted to keep the Houndoom/Frontier lock for a while, so I didn't have a second Banette. He was able to KO all my pokemon for the win.

1-1

Round 3:
Michael Miller(LM Golem/LM Aggron/Energy Root)

I get a Houndour start and he gets a Geodude and Aron. I'm able to get some Banettes built and
by the time he gets close to a powered Aggron, I reversal and stop it with my Banette EX. Later, he
has a Golem against my Banette. He uses mend and I shadow chant for like 90 damage.
Unfortunately I forgot about enraged linear attack, which he promptly uses to KO a benched
Banette. I KO his Golem and he starts building a benched Aron. Aron becomes Lairon and he
paralyzes me for a couple of turns. I was able to delay his potential Aggron threat with some
reversals forcing him to spend energy retreating or play switch. Eventually I either break the
paralysis with a switch or he gets tails(don't remember which one) and I win the game.

Between rounds I buy a Chimchar Diamond and Pearl tin. I look at the blank circle next to
Chimchar's scratch attack and think I have an error Chimchar. It turns out that some diamond and
pearl pokemon have energyless attacks and Chimchar was one of them.

2-1

My resistance is fairly low but I figure it will increase over time since Pramawat usually does well in swiss rounds.

Round 4:
David Bennett(Delta)

I get a Shuppet ascension start to his Holon Castform start. Since he went second he mentors for
three Pikachus. I delay my assault with Banette for a few turns because I knew that if I KOed
castform, he would respond with a scrambled metallic thunder OHKOing my Banette. Once I
decided to attack, I had multiple Banettes and I reversal a Pikachu to KO it. And of course in true Bandoom against Delta fashion, he uses scramble and metallic thunder to KO Banette. We go back
and forth with me KOing his Pikachus/Raichus and him KOing two Banettes. Unfortunately for him,
his one holon farmer was prized, meaning he could not get a Raichu out fast enough to stop my third Banette from KOing all his pokemon.

At this point, pizza arrives and the start of the next round is delayed in order to allow everyone to
get a free slice of pizza. The remaining slices were sold at $1 each.

3-1

My resistance is still low.

Round 5:
Christopher(Flariados)

Another Shuppet ascension start against his Eevee which he uses to get another Eevee. Once his Flareon hit the board, I hid behind my safeguard Banette. We traded flame screens and night
murmurs for a few turns, and he got a second Flareon and a full flame. I take 40 from burn and
respond by countergyming and retreating/switching. Eventually he gets a Spinarak benched. I
attempt to reversal Spinarak. Tails. Ariados comes and spider traps Banette leaving it at 60 and poisoned with a tails sleep check. Once he knocked that and whatever I sent up after that out,
I used my Banette EX to attack. I'm able to get the prize count to 1-1. It's his turn and he has a
tough decision to make, so he thinks it out for a couple of minutes. He ends up using Heat tackle
and a third Flareon to put Banette at 80, burned and confused. Flareon was at 20 damage If this
burn flip is tails I lose the game. Heads. I look at my hand and decide to risk the outcome of the
entire game on yet another flip. Heads, shadow chant works and I win. Tails, I KO myself and lose. Shadow Chant, heads ftw.

4-1

More low resistance with Pramawat at 3-2.

Round 6:
Jonathan Anderson(Metanite)

I don't get much built but am able to hammer him with battle frontier, and heads on reversals and
ER2s. Unfortunately, my small board gets flattened by a few crush and burns.

4-2

Jonathan was undefeated 6-0 after he beat me, so my resistance shot up.I make top 16 as 10th
seed and end up playing the 7th seed, Daniel Conn. Wooper was 3-3 and had his Wooper graph shattered. According to his graph, he would scrub out at CCs, top 8 at states(already happened),
top 4 at regionals, top 2 at nationals, and win worlds. We both decided it was time for the face ;/.

Top 16:
Daniel Conn(Metanite with Lati-lock)

Game 1:

He has a horrible energy drought and I get my Shuppet ascension start. Once he finally gets some energy, he tries to delay my Banette with ice barrier from Latios EX. I counter this with my
safeguard Banette. I continue to demolish his board and he scoops to save time for game 2.

Game 2:
I get a lone Houndour start and he gets a better start than last game. I'm unable to set up quick
enough to deal with his Dragonites and Metagrosses so I scoop to save time for game 3.

Game 3:

Finally, a game where we both get set up nicely. He mentors to a near full bench with Latios EX in
the mix, so I counter with a Houndoom/Space Center Lock. I gain the advantage due to his not
being able to play trainers or lati-lock me. I end up with two fully loaded Banette EXs and a
Houndoom ready to flamethrower a metagross or the Latios EX which I set up with 30 damage from shady moves. I win to move on to top 8.

Top 8:
Jonathan Anderson(Metanite)

Game 1:
Both of us get absolutely terrible starts. Me a houndour with no fires or rainbows, and him a holon's castform with no transceiver or mentor. After a few turns of essentially nothing, I get some of my
stuff and he topdecks a mentor. His mentor was a turn too late to finish me quickly, but i'm not able
to get enough set up to deal with his Metagross. I scoop and we go to game 2.

Game 2:

I get a shuppet ascension start, but no supporters to go with it. Once I get a transciever, I use it
with the intent to get a mentor when I look through my deck and find BOTH mentors prized. I get an adventurer instead and don't get anymore basics. I struggle to get a Houndoom and second Banette
up while he's able to get some Metagrosses and Dragonites. A few crush and burns and agilities end
the game and eliminate me.

My Wooper graph was broken too. I also scrubbed out at CCs and got top 8 at states. Maybe i'll get
top 4 at nationals.

For 5th-8th place, I get 18 packs of Power Keepers. From them I got Salamence EX, Absol EX, and Jolteon star.

Props:
Shaw for trading me the two Banette EXs I needed to build Bandoom
My 18 Power Keepers packs
Free pizza for everyone
Both of my swiss losses were close games

Slops:
Houndour starts with no fire, rainbow, or way to switch into Shuppet
Two shattered Wooper graphs

jonathan shatters dreams xP i'm sorry.. good job anyway! top 8 isn't too bad. and those were some good prizes (we're selling ours cuz we have the worst luck on the planet with packs..)

Wooper: I need to keep the cards to trade for a new deck like Arcanine EX. Chuck and Ness broke the format with Shiftry EX this time, which is an autoloss for Banette ="(.

Shaw: :thumb:

Boxes: He also shatters graphs made up by Wooper. In the prizes between the two of you, isn't that two boxes of Power Keepers? You should be guaranteed like at least 3 EXs or 2 EXs and a star per box.

Hey man, that space center was so evil in the third game of Top 16 against me.. If you didn't play that I would have wiped you out. Good job...
