Misplays

last years regionals:

playing against a machamp with dialga g, and his lv x knocked one of my guys out, and i decided to promote a dialga instead of a guarded uxie (dialga couldnt kill him but uxie could), and i had to deafen and he took another prize

grinder:

luxape mirror, i had to get infernape 4, its lv x and an energy. i had a premier ball and an aarons collection. i played aarons to get infernape and the lv x. i was energy starved. angry face

Regionals last year top 4: I win game 1, scoop game 2. I use furret and grab a Stevens Advice and a Gardevoir when all I needed was a DRE and a Gardevoir to win. It cost me my top 4 match and I was very dissapointed in myself. I thought if I would grab stevens I could get 1/3 DRE left in my 8 card deck, they were all at the bottom and I lost.

regonals 06 played copycat 1st turn shuffled hand drew continued to play opponet after turn was ended decided to wise up and call judge i was a newer player so was completly oblivios to the rule GL sad day....but funnily enough got 6th that day LOL

After coming extremely close to donking somebody using Gengar, I forget to Guard a Benched Porygon2 with an Unown G I dropped to empty my hand, and he proceeds to OHKO both with Shadow Room.

Grinder 2009. I was playing Flygon against Rampardos rogue. I had an active Flygon with one dark, attached Upper Energy, lvld up, and realized I couldn't Power Swing anymore. I lost, and could have won if I hadn't leveled up. Lame...

States '08: My one-year anniversary. I'm playing GG (just like 95% of the other players) and I go 4-1 in swiss, only losing to Magmortar. All of my other matches were mirrors. So I get to top cut and I'm battling a guy I beat in round 5, I believe. Anyway, I beat him again and I make it to top 4. I'm up against my friend who's running Hurricane. I lost. 'Nuff said. But hey, I at least got 3rd. place and a nice trophy!

This just proves any n00b can pick up a GG deck and do well with it.

Oh man, here's the best one: Regionals 2005...

I'm in the top four, and setup a FTKO on his active (he has a bench) via a Rare candied Dark Electrode. Then, fearing the Scramble Energy, as well as wanting a better hand, I Rocket's Admin. I then am about to attack, but...

Judge; "Where's your Rare Candy?"
Me: It's right TH-

...

*Looks at discard pile; sees no Candy*

...

*Looks at deck...*

"d'oh."

After the appropriate judge call, I proceeded to lose the game pretty badly - a game I was supposed to win. Fortunately though, I roared back and took the series.

It's not just the misplays you make, but how you move on from them. It was tough to do something so stupid, but no crying over spilt milk won me $500 I wouldn't have had otherwise.

I nice recent one.

So I'm up 6-2 on this guy, with me playing LuxChomp, him playing FlyStuff.
With him having essentially no set up (Claydol was Dragon Rush'd, Uxie for 6 was sprayed), I decide to set up a Ninetails for game (Bright Look, Color Shift, Galactic Switch), and realizing he ran memorey berry, I decided to guard my Vulpix to prevent any random junk, however, at that time, my bench was Bronzong, Lucario(Overlapped by a certain Bronzong), Luxray, Roserade, Vulpix. So I bench and Guard. Then I realize I am lacking on ways to get the energy into my hand, I play NM and get back 3 Fire, then Uxie for 3, whichs gets me, in order, Luxray GL X, Fire and Fire, I'm sooooo sure I have game. Anyway, I do my original plan, hit his Blaze for 50 to be able to KO it next turn with Dragon Rush. Next turn I start, attach to Vulpix and KO, then my friend points out that I have 6 bench.

"..."
The other guy has no idea what's going on. Meanwhile, a bunch of people who we're finished with their matches we're freaking out, it was pretty funny. Realizing this is going to result in a game loss, I just conceded the game.

So much fun.

I'm at Aussie Nats this year.

I'm playing Vespiquen Cherrim and I'm up against a T-Tar Deck. I know it's an auto-win for me as I have played the person before and I know I can psyche her out on the field and in her head. (Sorry Grace). She's already freaked because I had a reputation in Tassie. Anyway, I start up and end up with a Shaymin start. Whatever, I come back and win Game 1. Then I lose game 2 from horrible start.

Game 3 starts with me having a GOD hand. The best thing a Cherrim Player could ever want. I have 3 Cherrim Turn 2 and I have sacrificed one Pokemon for Vespy's body to activate. I'm ready to rip through her whole deck, so I end. She starts up and KO's a Combee, letting a Vespiquen pop up. I take barely seconds for my next move and rip through her T-Tar - only just realising I might be short on time after game 1. I'm right - I've only got 5 minutes - although that should be enough to win. She starts her turn and KOs my Vespi - that's what I wanted so I can Cynthia. I only have 12 cards in my deck and I have calculated all the odds - I was going to take 2 prizes in one turn. I start up and play a Roseanne's for my energy - then I basically fold. I've forgotten to Cynthia and Rosy'd instead.
:nonono:
I don't show it, but I'm broiling inside. She's looking pretty nervous too. I try to make up for my mistake by promoting Shaymin - no energy. I need to retreat and all I can do is hit for 50 and drain. She starts, Grind OHKO. Game.

Grace is so happy to win.

Another time - I'm playing Honchkrow Darkrai.

I've been beating the daylights out of my first round opponent. She's barely hanging on for the win. My Murkrows are walking all over her with Honchkrow Lv.Xs attacks.

"Hey. Where's your Honchkrow Lv.X?"

"Right there."

"That's a Murkrow."

Looks at Murkrow. Stays calm.

"It's here somewhere...right?"

Looks at discard pile.

I've accidentally pushed my Honchkrow into the discard.

i was using gyarados and first turn i was going against gengar an i only had a magikarp o i drawand there another magikarp i didnt want to get donked so i went stupid and played the other magikarp down to and my oppenent couldnt hae knocked me out buti still won amizingly

At the first Battle Road this year I evolved fossil to Omanyte to Omastar using Broken Time Space, devolving my opponent's evolved Pokemon, then Wagering everything away.

It wasn't until it got to be my turn again that my opponent (and myself) realized that BTS had been taken out of play earlier by another stadium.

Game loss. LOL

I remember I was playing against RA when we both realized that the Honchkrow LV. X I had active had no Honchkrow under it.

No, I leveled up a Murkrow. We both knew the Honchkrow was there somewhere, it was just invisible, so we kept on playing.

Today I had a Floatzel GL LV.X on the bench and my active water Pokemon got KO'd. I let it get sent to the discard.

I'm in a pretty tough match with a friend and we are both down to pretty thin decks. I have my Aerodactyl GL active and I use Collect to draw 2 cards because there is a card that I know is in my deck that I need to win the game next turn (note that you cannot draw up to 2 - the card specifically says 2). I look at my deck and ohdear. Only 2 cards left.
