Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Misprints: Metagross EX, Flygon EX and more

Hello!

I've just opened a few EX Dragon Frontiers boosters and discovered they accidentally contained EX Power Keepers cards instead of Dragon Frontiers. Also, in some boosters there were more than 9 cards.

When looking through the cards I also discoverd most of them are misprinted. Misalignments, squared cut edges, missing holographs, wrong colors, etc.
The most explicit misprints are:
- Metagross EX, 150HP [the "Metagross EX" text is printed in gold as if it were a reverse foil card (the Hit Points count however, is in black as it should be), a plain golden border instead of a starred silver one]
- Flygon EX, 150HP [holograph is missing, a plain yellow border instead of a starred silver one, a black star instead of a silver one]
- A Psychic Energy [no seriesnr, no series logo, wrong copyright 2005 instead of 2007.
- About 6 other Energy cards [holograph is missing]
- Blaziken, 100HP [contains silver colored "Ex-star" instead of a normal black one]

Does anyone know if, and how much these misprints could be worth for a serious collector?

Btw: all cards are 100% mint since they are just boosterfresh.

Greetz,

I've uploaded a few pictures:

... If you got a whole bunch of errors together like that, I highly doubt the cards are real. If they are... that's awfully odd.

Yes, I have also thought about that, but they come from new unopened boosters so I don't expect they are fake. Besides, if I had to fake someone with Dragon Frontiers boosters, I would certainly not put in Power Keeper cards and/or another quantity of cards than what's displayed on the outside of the boosterpacks ...

I'll upload a few pictures soon.

Well, in your case, if the cards are fake, it seems someone would have gotten away with doing just that, no? :p

I'll be honest, though - I stopped collecting after Legendary Collection, so I really haven't the slightest bit of a clue what all has been done with the newer sets. Perhaps they are real. I guess I'm really not the person to ask. :)

Do these have the right foil treatment. the "cosmic" foil pattern?
If not, they're fake.
If they do have the correct foil... that would be interesting.

What kind of store did you get these packs?

I don't know exactly what you mean by the "cosmic foil pattern"... How can I check this?

I bought the boosters a few months ago at a regular "Intertoys" store (quite large here in the Netherlands). I also bought some Holon Phantoms packs together with these Dragon Frontiers but the HP-boosters are just normal, all cards printed right, no series errors or whatever. The reason I opened them today is because I forgot I had them (I've been pretty busy with college the last year) and just saw them laying around this morning.

Btw: the reason I first thought they could be fake was the squared edges (not completely squared but obviously not as rounded as "normal" cards).

The Metagross and Flygon are blatantly fake.

Other than that, look at the energy symbols especially - they look way off. Note the colourless energy symbols.

Those are not real cards.

Okay thank you guys. I'll be more aware of fake cards in the future ... However, it's still strange they sold those packs at a normal store don't you think? Perhaps a staff member has changed a few boosters ...

Anyway, I am very curious, how could I recognize a fake booster? It seems for me like everything's normal ... except maybe that "www. pokemon-tcg.com" ?

(btw: the Gym Challange boostesr are 100% genuine, it's just for comparison)

Well, since none of them are foil, there is no Cosmic foil pattern.

What is it? Look at any other foil that you have from Team Rocket on. It has the pattern on it. Not the alternate foils, the regular foils.

I recognize those fakes, I've seen them in stores in the US too, but not in packs.
You can also recognize them as fakes two other ways.
The card is glossier than it should be. Compare it to another, real card and you'll see.
Also, the backs are low quality.
Compare the back of the card to a real card. The difference will stand out immediate, especially around the blue border on the back edge. On the fakes the border will blend into the main background while on a real card it will be quite distinct.

When my Sister went to Europe she bought me some packs and they were fake to, like these are.

My dad want to France and got me a theme deck, It had cards that looked fine, just were glossier.

He said because its from France, there's a different material.

No Idea if this is true or not though.

Note that these fakes are in English

Those cards a re so clearly fakes. I specialize in spotting fake cards and those are screaming to your face "Fake, Fake, FAKE!!!"

If you bought those in a store you should propably report them to PUI. Selling fakes like that in a whole box is more than outrageous. Selling pirated cards is illegal and the store is going to be in lots of trouble. The cards are worthless and you are not allowed to play with them in any self respecting league.

I've seen a lot of those. I don't know what it is about europe that makes card fakes so easy to find here. Most cellphone counterfeits get caught in customs trying to smuggle them to europe, but the custom workers let cards pass easily cause they don't know what they are and how to spot a fake box or boosters. It's really sad when some of my league members come back from a trip to paris or bulgaria or something and the´re full of excitement when they come to tell me "I got these pokemon boosters really cheap!!! Weren't I lucky!?" and then I tell them they are fake and they can't play with them in my league. There goes all his/her money down the drain... Sad...

Those are FAKES!!!
I get 2 boosters, and cards look same=fakes...

BTW, I get Deoxys boosters, cards were from Emerald... LOL
Lil' Bro get Dragon boosters, cards from Deoxys... LOL

(How much money you used for Fakes?)
