Mountan West Regionals - 5/21/05 Salt Lake City, Utah

No, as a matter of fact, this will not be the case. This issue has been addressed previously by both myself and Dave.

A statement such as the one you made is akin to saying "The judges at this event will all be wearing red shirts. If wear a red shirt at the event, you will be asked to to change."

Really? Sorry, I guess I missed the final answers on that discussion (saw the beginning of it). My bad, was just saying what some of the judging staff discussed (of the ones who were talking about it I'm the only one that comes here, and even then I don't look around very much)

Thanks for correcting me Mike.

With EX: Emerald finally with our grasp, I have taken the opportunity to knock around with some new deck ideas and coming to the conclusion that the winning decks definately will not be what you expect.

I made Top 8 too! How could you forget the mighty Electrobyss? :frown:

Well, I've had my fill of Zapdos decks for a while. 5 of the 8 rounds I played were against them.

I think it was a Lanturn/DkHypno (someone from North Carolina) that won. Not sure tho cuz I was judging 15+.

Sorry MiloticIIDX that I forgot about your crazy E-bus. Yah, those rogue UT decks gave FITs to many outta-staters. It was indeed pleasant to see such a diverse meta. Personally, I thought MuxEX/MedichamEX was the deck to beat, thus our reason to include a Gardy deck for one of our Team CO players.

Props to the 9 CO players who did well at regionals. They all finished par or better. The lone, undefeated 15+ player was Ryan's Rock-lock from CO Springs. Way to go Ryan. You would've won that 3rd game against Steve had your Pidgeotto not been in your prizes, and played in the Semis. Oh well, props to Steve Palumbo from Vegas for his semi-rogue green sponge deck. It got him 2nd place and a Worlds trip.

The SoCal players deserve credit for making the trip to UT to see just how good/bad the Zapturndos deck is. Obviously, they found out how tuff it is for that deck to be successful in a diverse meta environement.

Props to Matt Yuen as my vote for the best player at MtnWest in the 15+ age group. He made a couple critical errors that may have cost him from finishing in the top 2, but against SEVERE bad matchups (power-lock and rogue), he was almost able to use his skill to pull out the wins. I expect to see Matt as a serious TopX contenter at Worlds.

Also, props once again to Eric Pettit from UT for playing rogue at a major tournament and doing very well (he probably would've won his semifinal match against Steve if time permitted). His greatly-improved rogue deck that he used to win the UT States cause FITS to at least two very good SoCal players (Jerry and Matt) in the playoffs who were using VERY GOOD meta decks (power-lock and zappy respectively).

Props also to Tymon for once again proving that he's one of the best PTO/HJ in the world. Andrea was smart to include Tymon in her staff lineup. Thanks Tymon and Andrea for including me on your staff and for your EXTREME generosity.

Props to my staff support booster box. I finished my RH set AND got the MedichamEX I was seeking to trade for. Sorry Jerry that we couldn't hook up with our DusclopsEX-MedichamEX trade.

11-14

2nd place was a blaziken deck
3rd place was a zappy deck <----my son Joey
4th place was a blaziken deck

...More props:

Props to Pete DeShaw for coming to UT. Behind-the-scenes efforts and support from you and others at PUI really is what makes this TCG OP the best in the world. Companies like UD and Decipher don't hold a candle to you guys. And WOTC could learn a lot from you guys too. Thanks for all you guys do.

Props to my fellow Team CO players who were good enuf to have 4 players in the playoffs (Ryan, Jared, Luke, and Josh). Guys, you won't witness a tougher regionals than this year's MtnW. Also, props to Michael, Adrian, Eric, Craig, and Alex. One more win for you guys and all of team CO would've been in the playoffs. So close to reaching our goal.

Props to Rob for assisting me in the 15+ judging. We had the biggest group (63 players), quite a task for the two of us. And, that "Watch your deck" rap was indeed classic. :)

BTW, the attendance numbers were in the 120-ish range. But, I'm sure we had the most regions represented, at 5 that I'm aware of.

Sorry Steve, but you're crazy =\ Great Lakes anyone?

Yah Moss, I'm sure you, seena and the rest made Great Lakes very competitive. But, ask Will Hung and the SoCal players about how tough MtnW Regionals was. They all came because they tought it would be easy.

BTW, Hope to see you at Worlds (if me or my kid can win a trip). :(
