Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

My Blackpool Cities report.

This is the first report I've ever written on here, due to the fact that it was the first tournament I'd managed to get to that wasn't Nationals or Regionals. (No idea as to how I managed to miss all the Cities and Battle Roads last year.) Last Thursday night my weekend started with a gig, followed by a couple of nights out in Manchester in various rubbish clubs and then a really late Sunday night, so I was absolutely knackered come Monday and almost didn't come. But I had a look at train prices while dropping a mate off to go back to London and it was fairly cheap. :thumb: So I went home and put together a quick Machamp deck, having a chat with The Machampion on MSN at the same time.

Anyhoo, got there, wandered about a bit outside the church being incredibly dozy before Stef managed to get me in eventually.

There were only five masters there, and my games went a little something like this:

Game the first (vs. James Captain Hook Childsnatcher (or something)):

Started with a lone Baltoy in the first game, which wasn't ideal. He had a Darkrai, I think. For ages I had to sit there with a Claydol and Unown G not drawing into any Machops, but when I did I started donking with Machamp and his Sharpedos and Darkrais didn't really stand up due to weakness and so on and so forth.

The second match I had possibly an even worse start - a sole Uxie. Still, I was going second and managed to retrieve the game with a few things and ended up with enough Machamps and my Claydol out and warp pointed about at the end of the game as well as being incredibly fortunate on the sleep flips and a No Guard flip, and ended up winning this one too.

1-0

Second match (vs. Stefan Polish Name):

Again I got a horrible start in my first match here, an Unown G ffs. Growl, etc. He was playing a Dark Blissey deck so the match up was definitely massively in my favour and as soon as I got away from my Unown I managed to pretty much paste the Blisseys with massive Machamp Lvl. X damage, and when I was 4-1 up on prizes Stefan conceded and fair play to him.

Next I finally got a Machop! And... six fighting energies. >.< Another day it could have been very lucky for me as despite Stefan having his Weavile out he couldn't get any Blisseys for ages and so just had two Chanseys on his bench with stacks of scary dark energy piled up underneath them. Sadly I couldn't get my Machamps out either and all he had to do was KO Machoke, Claydol and Unown G to level the scores.

In the third game I started with Baltoy again but managed to get a really quick start, Machamp by turn two, donked a few Chanseys and then Raged a Blissey to finish off this match far more quickly than I'd have liked to.

2-0

I was now the only player at 2-0, so I was giddy as the scent of victory wafted up my nostrils.

vs. Hazel.

She was at 1-1, so were the Stefan and Captain Childmuncher on the table next to me. Hazel loves the Eeveelutions so her deck was full of them, meaning I had the advantage with Eevee donks. The first game went slowly as well as I had a Stormfront Machop start (seriously, I only seem to own three DP Machops ). Still came through though, getting a nice full bench of Machamps, Azelf and Claydol. She played really well with Lumineon and Starmie alongside the Eevees, dragging out an Uxie and hitting things on my bench for a while, stuff like that. When I drew into the Stark Mountains and Warp Points the game was mine though, as I got rid of her Espeon and then swept through the rest. Good game, this one.

No idea what happened in the last game, I was out of it at that point after the lack of sleep really began to hit me. I suppose I must have won though.

Props: really good tournament considering the size, lots of fun games and trades with people, Stef was a great head judge and I walked through Blackpool with her, Stefan and Hazel afterwards and gossiped about the people of the UK TCG, also mentioning how amazingly different the metagame is up there to London and even Manchester. In London you rarely see anything that isn't an archetype, whilst the opposite seems to be the case in 'Pool. I felt almost guilty. The prizes. They were amazing! Half a box of Stormfront, a playmat, a Darkrai folder, some stickers and various other things, for only £3 entry! More than made up for the train fare.

Slops: not getting any Lvl. Xs or SHs in the 18 packs of SF. Gutted. Doesn't matter too much though. Other than that, just having to wait an hour for the train home.

Really enjoyed it overall and will definitely be visiting Blackpool again.

Did you play the machamp list? also great job on winning, you did us proud back home!!

Luke
Was similar. Added in a few things like Time-Space and altered the supporters list a little. Can send you it if you like, seeing as you helped so much. And thanks.
