I'm a grown man. I know how to shuffle. But it seems as though when I play games my hands I draw are just horrible everytime. And the cards I need like Pokemon or certain cards are always in bunches.

Any technique I should work on. Pregame and during the match? Not sure how long I can handle having horrible start after horrible start/even midgame...allowing my opponent a handful of turns without worrying about my side of the field.

There is no technique to shuffling a deck of cards, only luck or how you made the deck. The reason for you getting horrible draws is probably because you don't put enough basic Pokemon in your deck. What deck do you play anyway? This could also be a case of you having horrible luck.

"I know how to shuffle"

if true then you have to focus upon your deck build.

if your deck build is okay then either your expectation or what pokemon hands look like are too high or you need to work on your shuffle technique.

[bad hands happen, unless you double nickel. unfortunately a double nickel is cheating. A double nickel and minimal additional shuffling is dubious at best]

Bad hand do not equal bad shuffling. I hear people say stuff like this a LOT, and it is absolutely not true. Luck happens. If you are shuffling properly, you will get bad hands. You will get some good hands. You will not get both equally. Random is random. If you think you are shuffling "badly" because you get bad hands, well, you are wrong. If you are shuffling in such a way that you always get good hands, then, well. . . you're cheating.

Before each game do a pile shuffle, where you separate cards into several piles, usually 5-7, which should spread out your cards more. Then of course after that shuffle in your "normal" way.

Bad hands to tend to happen in Pokemon, but you can adapt your playstyle and deck to fit to it. If it continues to annoy you follow in Tom Dolezal's footsteps and play 4 of everything.

True true. Thanks for the posts. My deck is solid. All the right cards and counts. Guess I just need to deal with how the game goes.

actually... do you play random full arts and foil energy? if you do, then stop. Try and make sure every card in your deck is of similar card stock. The cards with thicker card stocks tend to clump when shuffling. This is why a lot of players stay away from foil energies and full art supporters/EXs.

Yep I never use foil basic energies in my decks anymore, especially when I seem to get 5 dark energies in my starting hand :/

^ I use foil energy and occasional full arts and I don't have this problem. My deck is not fully foiled out (all trainers and most non-EX Pokemon are normal stock).

I can understand the science behind it, but personally I think if you're taking care of the cards, it's mostly superstition.

Kayle has the right idea. Yes, in theory, foils can migrate towards each other. Yes, they can clump. But they usually won't, and even if they do it will hardly be relevant.

A much bigger concern with foils is how easy it is to find foils when doing a quick cut. This is particularly noticeable with Ace Specs and EXs.

Time to use Full Art Junipers and Shiny Exeggcute then.

as far as the foils clumping, a lot of it might have to do with sleeves. Ones that slide past eachother like Ultra Pro or KMC matte probably won't clump as much as say, Japanese sleeves which are glossy.
