My Yanmega dilemma...!

Sweet

Hello,

I happen to have a Pokemon tournament coming up, and I'm not sure what to do. The best decks at the moment are all using Yanmega, but I won't be able to get any (or even lend any) for the tournament. I don't have a clue on the metagame, and the deck can't use Yanmega. I'm looking for a deck which is around 50/50 for the majority of its match ups, so that it comes down to skill more than it does what decks I play against.

So, any ideas?

Thank you!

The best decks are not all using Mega atm.
Vileplume/Jumpluff/Muk/Mew
MagneBoar
Reshiploshion
ReshiBoar
and Stage1 Decks like Donphan/Cinccino/Zoroark/etc. ....

Are all decent, if not great decks, that don't use Yanmega.

Darkmot.

ReshiPlosion would be the best way to go. The main cards can be found in tins or as a promo and is a very powerful deck at the moment

^I can't tell you the matchups for your particular list with your particular playstyle against an opponent's particular list with their particular playstyle. However, Reshiram/Typhlosion/Ninetales is basically 50-50 across the board, meaning it takes a very talented player to take it far. It does have a fairly good matchup against Yanmega decks that don't run Zoroark (Prime Time, Kingdra/Yanmega, Yanmega/Donphan, etc).

@Darkmot- Stage 1's usually have Yanmega.

emboar/typhlosion would probably be ur best bet. For me it seems to have the best all-around matchup vs yanmega variants. Which if none around you have any yanmega for trade/lend, then I would say its a good chance the local meta will have some mega decks in it. If that can't happen, try cinccino toolbox. Some1 also suggested ZPS which could darkhorse you into the t4 if you get even slightly lucky.

ZPS also doesn't always run Yanmega and is a good choice.

This has got to be one of the most incorrect statements I've seen around here for a while. If you don't run Yanmega in ZPS, you're going to get your face bashed in by even the weakest of fighting decks. Donphan is waaaaaaaaay too good/popular right now to even think about not using Yanmega in ZPS.

That statement is not true. There are many stage1 Decks, that don't run Yanmega.
The point why most stage1 decks that topcutted are running Yanmega is that it is awesome in this format, but it is not a must in a stage1 deck.

Have to agree there. Donphan will steamroll you w/out yanmega.

BUT- we don't know the size and scope of the tourney he is playing in, so if he is confident that only 1-2 people will play donphan he might get away with not playing yanmega. What we/he needs is more meta info. We can theorize all we want on what decks are good, and there are alot of non-yanmega deck that fit this category; but without knowing ANYthing about the meta it is hard to say which one is the best non-mega deck.

Definitely not true. It has better than 50-50 against almost every deck, and it doesn't take a skilled player to pilot it far. I know from experience.

You can afford to take an auto-loss to a few decks. ZPS without Yanmega has stronger matchups against decks not involving Donphan than ZPS w/ Yanmega. Personally, I think it's better without.

Uh, want to elaborate? I tested Reshiram a lot and it's basically 50-50 across the board right now, barring Yanmega. What other great matchups does it have? I'm not talking like 55-45 but actually good matchups.

From everything I've heard, the deck that won Canada didn't run Yanmega....though, I'm not 100% on this as I wasn't there.

And, you aren't really taking the meta game into account. Yanmega is steamrolling right now, which makes donphan a pretty bad play, especially paired with the fact that Kingdra has seen a lot of play and one pretty well. Just about anything OHKO's Zekrom, so its weakness is moot. Donphan 3HKO's Magnezone while getting OHKO'ed in return, so it really has no place as a deck, only as a tech. Zekrom can handle one Donphan. Just about everything else in the format is easy enough to KO by other attackers and while Donphan does set up quick, it doesn't have a high damage output and damages its own bench. I'm not saying its horrible, I'm saying you can get away with not teching against it.
