Can you also post the breakdowns for last year if possible?

UK Nationals: 180 players

34 Jnrs
60 Snrs
84 Mstrs

6 rounds top 8 for Jnrs and Snrs
7 rounds top 8 for Mstrs

Nicely up on last year

Danish nats is on 6th/7th june as quoted by Tego himself in another thread in this international forum.
This year, I've been giving the chance to not only work with making Norway Nationals (May 23 & 24) happen, but also Denmark Nationals (June 6 & 7)! I always enjoy working with Norway Nationals, and I feel lucky to get the chance to be part of another Nationals this season. :)

I know that the attendace to the danish nationals will drop a lot, since the location is bad. It will be great if we reach 100 people, but I dont think so...

Updated with last weekend's Nationals. Looking good so far, all but 2 of all Nationals have been up in numbers since last year :D

I'm not sure about the Netherlands either. On the one hand, it wouldn't surprise me if we had a lot of players, but on the other hand, the location is not as good as last year (especially for players from the region I'm from) and the fact that the tournament is on 2 days instead of 1 may put several people off... But we'll see :)

Norway Junior: 40
Norway Senior: 76
Norway Master: 49

TOTAL: 165

6 rounds, top 8 for Junior
7 rounds, top 16 for Seniors
6 rounds, top 8 for Masters

Italy: 107 (I think), down from 117 (28/35/54) last year (30 May) because of bad organization. 19/31/57 if i recall well.

Thanks for the information guys! :D

I updated the post with all the numbers I know now. France and Portugal have gone up immensely!

Numbers... It is very risky to draw conclusions from numbers. Instead I'll pose a question: are we seeing the junior division is declining in Europe? Or is it that there are lots of Juniors who just don't go to Nationals?

I think personally that they don't go to Nationals because we had here more Juniors at City Championships than at Nationals. So my conclusion is to do Nats were most Juniors players are^^

^ Tbh I think both are true.

Of all the player divisions, Juniors are the players who tend to play more casually. Alot of Masters and some Seniors would be prepared to travel 4-5 hours and stay overnight in a hotel for Nationals. Most Juniors wouldn't do this. Looking at the Europe Invite thread, the Juniors has alot lower cut off for an invite than Masters and Seniors. They don't attend as many tournaments as seniors and masters.

However I have noticed some bad attendences in the Junior division. Is the problem that the Juniors that move up to Seniors each year aren't replaced? I've seen alot of Junior attendences of 2-3 at tournaments which is pretty worrying.

I think that the fact that a lot of European Nationals are now spread out over 2 days discourages a lot of Junior players from going.

For instance, I have several (decent/good) Junior players at my leagues who will play in BRs/CCs, but whose parents won't travel 2-3 hours for Nationals, especially when they know they will probably have to spend the night if their child makes the top cut.

So those parents prefer to have their kid playing untill 9-10 PM and than travel home?
That is another sound than I heard last year when they were complaining it ended to late.
It's never oké no matter how you do it.

No, those parents prefer tournament that end at around 4 PM and that are within 30 minutes driving distance... Mind you, these are kids that only play local tournaments, and they and their parents have no idea what it's like playing a National Championship.

The parents with kids who do actually travel to Nats, know what Nats is like, etc. obviously do prefer to stay there for 2 days. But that's not the majority of the Junior attendance, I think...
