Nationals byes and amount of rounds

Example on my question:
We are 16 people in our nationals. Player A have a first round bye from states/regionals which means 2 people get bye first turn. This means the following:
It will be 9 1-0
There can be 5 2-0
There can be 3 3-0
And there can be 2 4-0.

So my question is basicly if we are 16 players and one of them earned a bye from states/regs will the amount of rounds be increased to 5 or will we still play 4?

Sweden does not have a big player base :p

However that doesn't matter. I can say the same situation with 256 players and one of them got a bye.

I too have thought about this question, although being from the US, this problem will probably not happen at our nationals. Nonetheless, there has to be a right answer to this question.

It would be helpful if we could get someone who works for Pokemon to answer this question officially (since speculation about this topic is pretty much pointless). Thanks.

The States/Regionals byes have done this for the past two years, and I expect them to do this again for Nationals 2012. Can anyone confirm if there's a difference between States and Regionals byes? Other than the quantity, I don't think there is.

As for the OP's questions, I don't think that players with byes impact the number of rounds. The guidelines depend purely on the player count, so unless the PTO decides to do something different, then the round count should remain the same (four in your hypothetical).

I don't think byes affect the number of rounds. They are only done after everyone registers. A bye is a "free" win if you won a States or regs. However, if there is a odd number of people that "bye" hurts your resistance

an earned bye (States/Regionals winners) will treat your byes as an opponent you beat, and lost too, so 100% win and 100% opponents win

an unearned bye (odd players in tournament) will disregard the round when it calculates opponent's win

16 players will not result in 5 swiss rounds.

The really awkward case is 7 players with some having awarded byes as that will be just three rounds and no top cut to break the two 3-0 players at the end of the third round. he perfect nature of an awarded bye will most likely put that player ahead in the standings.

assuming the player with a bye doesn't lose his other game(s)
