Nationals Crime Spree

At nationals, I was laying out my Magnezone's and Yanmega's to put in binder I dropped a sleeve so looked away to pick it up turned up and saw those were missing, then I see a guy walking away with my cards (magnezones and Yanmegas) so I followed him and asked him to give it back, he said they aren't mine so I checked the back they had a piece of sticker on the pack to indicate they were mine, so the guy said he thought it was his. Bull, he just wanted to get away with it, I told the judge and other people and he was banned from the event, since they also saw this.

THIS is what you should do if you catch someone. Don't simply let them walk away, REPORT THEM! If you let them walk away, they'll just rob some other poor sap.

I got a game loss for round 9, so I started organizing my deck for top cut right away in the league area.

Me: *Organizes pokemon lines, looks away for a second to find and put down cleffas.*
*Looks up, sees magnezone primes missing.*
*Turns, sees guy putting three magnezone primes in my sleeves in Binder*
"Umm, excuse me?"
Guy: "Uhh, sorry, I thought those were mine."
*Walks away"

Also, I was playing a league game with my bag right next to me. When we went into the prize line, the bag was gone D:
I found it in the Lost and Found after though.

i would kicked whole sale ***

What we did was we usually all stayed together and watched each other's backs. I gotta say it did work. Plus I don't know who would be idiotic enough to steal cards. I mean good god buy them like the rest of us!

I wonder what people would think if someone showed up and purposely laid down GPS-embedded items just to catch people who stole stuff?

"I bought a lot of expensive/desirable things and I left them somewhere while I walked away and did something. I SWEAR IT WAS ONLY LIKE TWO SECONDS (because, you know, people can do things in two seconds), AND THEN WHEN I CAME BACK IT WAS ALL GONE"

This story seems to end one of two ways, either the stuff gets put in the lost and found, in which case, someone saw that your stuff was easily steal-able and picked up your slack on taking care of your stuff, or your stuff got stolen, meaning that you either forgot your stuff somewhere and someone decided to just keep it, or you made yourself a target for theft.

A lot of times when I hear about theft at these kinds of events, I almost don't feel bad for the person because they just opened themselves up for it to happen so much. I always hear about people going to other TCG events like Magic or Yugioh and taking precautions like wrapping their bags around their legs and keeping everything in their lap, and then I see a Pokemon event and I'll see a table of people with things spread out everywhere and they aren't even paying attention because they're playing a game.

I think it'd be really easy for someone to say something during the Player's Meeting or something about watching out for thieves and give a couple simple tips on how to prevent it.

TL;DR
I bet some of you just don't pay very much attention to your stuff and instead of admitting you lost it, you say it got stolen. Please pay more attention and hopefully this issue is addressed in the future.

Yeah, people shouldn't be careless with valuable things. That's common sense.

But let's not ever try and put any of the blame on the victim who gets their stuff nicked. No-one 'deserves' to have their cards stolen just because of a moment of carelessness.

ALL the blame belongs to the scumbags who go around doing that kind of thing. They are beneath contempt.

All I'm gonna say is WOW.....

That doesn't sound like the event that I enjoyed going to in the past.... I know it's player responsibility, etc., but these stories disgust me. It doesn't sound possible that National-Caliber Pokemon players would be doing that. It sounds like there were freaks running loose just walking around stealing stuff for profit instead of playing. As quick as stuff was walking off, and the lame excuses given when they got caught --- they had to be there for that purpose only.

I'll hit the rewind button to a couple weeks ago and give PokeChump another pat on the back for eyeball opening that the vultures circle their prey when they can.... You can call foul, whine about people acting like Poke-Police during trades, or whatever you want.... If I'm around or the normal Poke-Parent can watch the youngsters, THEY WILL!!! And stupid stuff happening to people like in this thread is why.... What's next??? Cameras set up in the play areas.... I hope the people that got caught received what they deserved!

Whenever I play a game I always keep my binder and tin in a rucksack and inbetween my legs. From most of the stories I've heard so far, people are either in denial or downplaying their own carelessness.

Even at league, where I know everyone and have no issues with anyone, I still always keep my binder inside my bag and on my feet when I'm playing a game... I never let someone look at my binder or deck if I'm distracted doing something else - too many bad experiences in the past. Though a lot of these stories are ridiculous; having someone grab your stuff when you bend down to get a sleeve is like beyond insane!

But, at least they learn at a young age, where the amount isn't much, of what people and the world are capable of. I rather learn the harsh lesson when all I lost is $50 than when I'm older and lose (hundreds of) thousands of dollars.

i went to the car to get my pop id friday morning and left all my stuff with my friends i come back theyre gone and they left my stuff there

had i left it in seniors or masters area i prolly wouldve lost everything and people wouldve died

A few years ago at worlds, Pooka, Gino, and myself among others had valuable items stolen from the free play room at the hotel. While we were lucky to have most of our property recovered by the police (and the perpetrators given a half deckade+ ban), most victims of theft are not so lucky.

As a league leader, I always try and give players tips on making sure that their valuable cards and DS systems don't grow legs.

-Be careful not to over extend your attention when trading, it is extremely common when two people are trading for a third or even fourth person to come in and ask to look through trading binders. If a player asks to look through your binder while you are already engaged in trading with another person, politely ask them to wait until you are finished and can give them your full attention. All it takes is a moment of distraction for your yanmega primes (or other valuablees) to dissapear.

-If you like to carry a backpack with you at events, be careful where you place it. Playing games can take a lot of focus, so always place your bag under your chair with one of the straps wrapped under one of the chair legs.

-Never assume that your stuff is "safer" if placed in a group pile along with your friend's stuff

-ALWAYS be more cautious at high level events, like states, regionals, or nationals. These events are much more crowded and are NOT the same as your local card shop.

I always put my personally belongings down my pants, tucked in my boxers. Hopefully no one would try to steal them. Unless you are named Katy Perry, then I'm all in favor of theft.

But seriously, this is atrocious. I do not understand why people steal cards.
Thx Obama, 1st our economy, now our pokemon cards. What's next?
