So I've decided since I like the games so much and got bored with yu-gi-oh that I should pick up some pokemon cards. Since i probably won't be going to tournaments anytime soon I'll just be learning with a friend that also likes pokemon. Anyway I went to the store today and couldn't decide what to buy...I am probably going to start with 2 decks and one of those pack sets or whatever so that me and my friend can learn the game. Any reccomendations on where to play or which starter decks from the black and white set onwards are best?

If i were new today the first thing i would buy would be a Prime Challenge box, specifically the Machamp one.

Between the deck, the packs, and the Champ Prime and extra Nidoking line that alone would be at least decent to bring to a league/local tourney.

Furious Knights is probably the best theme deck BW on. Eelektrik is boss, and you get some useful T/S/S such as Bianca (lol okay not really), but you do get Communication and Switch. As well as Super Rod and N. That'll get you somewhat started.

This or any theme deck that you think you'd like to play with. A good thing to do with the theme decks is double up and buy two of them. You can make a decent deck that way as you start off with strong lines of pokemon and trainers/supporters. I would actually suggest the Fast Daze theme deck from NV. Hope this helps. :)

I started playing with my younger cousin - we both bought theme decks and learned how to play. After that we started experimenting with building our own decks - and then got into the meta.

I would buy a Prime Challenge Box like someone suggested - but if you can't find it (I haven't found one in stores yet) I would buy a theme deck and a couple of packs.
Next Destinies comes out February 8th, the newest set, and it has great cards .

If you are gonna go the theme deck route I would wait for the Next Destinies theme decks to be released and get those... If you just want a cheap deck to buy singles for, Durant is the best way to go!

Okay well since I can't find Prime Boxes in stores I suppose I'll wait till next destinies. What are the two decks coming out with those?
