New league promos? Catcher?

Some people at my league don't even play the online version and the only thing they can do is try to trade it with someone else...

At the league I run no one really wants the online codes... Just hoping this doesn't mess too much with attendance.

I remember when Uxie and Claydol were league promos. Attendance was incredibly awesome.

Uxie and Claydol promos were part of what got me back at a league. Even though I had those cards for competitive play, I liked the idea of playing at a league and getting "rewarded" for it. I liked having playable promos in my deck because the holo treatment was amazing. And I used my extra Uxies/Claydols to get other players into the game. I know more players than just me had this same experience.

Having only online codes is a disappointment. I will vote with my time and money and say that there remains no incentive for me to go to a league.

Id say it defeats the purpose of the real life card game. If we move stuff online then we have a risk of doing something to the computer. Some players report missing PTCGO Cards.

Indeed many players don't play on PTCGO. But that doesn't mean a company that WANTS players to play it more should abandon any efforts to do so. That's what these code cards are for. (Personally, I've been saving up code cards from booster packs, and am working to open packs and trade codes for the cards I need to continue playtesting on PTCGO.)

Instead, to reward league play, they upped the prize for filling out the whole card, namely the cool badges like in the TV show along with a badge case.

Player Rewards, when they are actually distributed, are another mechanism for POP to put coveted cards in players' hands. Maybe that's the overall better channel in the long-run to earn cards that would normally be $15 each.

If you buy a booster pack you get a code. Same thing with tins and theme decks. In other words, actual cards and PTCGO codes are together in these packages.

I don't understand why they couldn't have given a league promo AND the online code. I mean, every other time I attended league this season you had the energy and the Pokemon, so why not have, say, Max Potion LP and Max Potion PTCGO code? It's better than eliminating the actual cards altogether. The badges and badge case are something I would've cared about when I was 10, but now, meh, rather have something usable.

Once my completely-decimated-collection bug issue is resolved, I'll be very happy to have the code cards and have access to more cards online.

But... I'm the parent of an almost-nine-year-old and a five-year-old. On the way to league this past weekend, I explained that they'd be earning their way to code cards and badges (and the badge cases wouldn't be here this week, but they'd be here at some point). They liked the badge idea, but I was simply unable to sell them on the code cards ("You two can start playing online if you want! The codes'll help you get the cards you need!" etc). To say that they were disappointed would be an understatement.

I understand the idea here -- they're trying to bring more people into the online game. I'm just afraid that the increase in online players is going to be vastly outweighed by the decrease in League attendance.

While I would most definatly prefer the actual TCG cards, I also collect one of each Code card for my Pokemon Card collection, so I will try to remember to get one of theese each at Leage ths year. (Although last year the promos were so bad I did not bother to get most of them, and I try to collect as many unique pokemon cards as I can)

Perhaps they did not include cards this season since it is basically a rehash of the previous season. It seems like the online code unlocks the virtual version of last years promos, Maybe next year we will get promos and online codes since it will be an entirely new format/season.

We went to league yesterday, and all the kids (juniors and seniors) were very excited to get the newest badge (something slim and rectangle-y?) Just a shame that this newest badge didn't have a pin in it, but I'm thinking it's meant to be placed in the badge case instead?

The thing with the badges is people in my age group (Masters) can't do anything with them. Its like a fake ranking system similar to the ranking system in the Naruto CCG. It does not mean anything. Maybe they plan on using the badges to enter event. Who knows but I know for a fact Masters would prefer physical copies of cards.

If anything else, the League energy cards were worth going to league(s) for. I could care less for code cards. I'd rather get them from packs. Our League here is pretty much dead but I hope this does not completely kill it.

I'm a master who got back into the game in May by discovering leagues in my area. I like the badges. They remind me of the league I went to as a kid, and I think they're a lot of fun to collect. I like the new badges more too, since they are actually shaped like they would be in the video game (which I have never fallen away from). I also really liked the energy cards. I needed Darkness and Metal energy desperately, and league was a fun way to get some for free. The other promos were crap. I don't need a Noble Victories Fraxure.

As for the code cards, I'm kind of lukewarm on them. I really like PTCGO. It allows me to play against people any time I like, and I get to enjoy opening a virtual booster pack for every real one. However, the league promos are just as ditzy as the real ones. I really wish the league energy were holo online. Might have made them worth it. It appears we'll be getting decent digital cards in the future ala Skyla and Catcher, but I already traded for those so the league ones will be redundant.

Since our league is kinda informal, the guy that runs it gives out the leftover cards as well as the code.

I would think that somebody had mentioned that the code card actually gives you more than just the Lilipup.
It gives you 5 energy cards, Asperita Gym, and some other card.

All of which have the "Play Pokemon" logo.

Of course this is all online, but maybe when next year rolls around, the actual cards will be in the mail.

It has been said that Catcher is one of the online code cards...

The players at our league says that either they start giving out real cards or they will mail their code cards back to POKEMON. (TPCI) They are not happy. They are saying either they give us real cards or no thanks. We had 5 players walk out after hearing that there was no Promo cards this time. They say call them when there is promo cards.

Thats pretty sad to hear but expected I guess.

That seems rather extreme, especially since it's free and the cards last season were lack luster.

As someone who runs a league, our turnout is extremely down due to the TCG online codes as prizes nonsense. I'll publicly say it is nonsense. The store is getting less people in, less product is moving, less people are playing/trading.

I run a league so I would have somewhere to play and trade, I don't do tournaments, and I prefer face-to-face gaming, not online stuff. I don't get paid to run a league, I don't get free stuff kicked at me from the shop I run it at, it's purely my time volunteered. With that said, having less people show up isn't fun for me or the shop. It kills the point in them allowing us to remain, and it makes me that much less excited each week.

Anyways, the breakdown:

Each player can earn:
4x Pokemon TCG Online code per season, which gives 4 energy, a pokemon, and a trainer if I remember right.
1x Badge.

The badges all fit inside a badge case that players who register their POP ID can order (for free, might I add) which is why no pinback is included. Adding the pin back would make the case that much bulkier, more for them to produce, more for them to ship. We got pins last year already, it would kind of suck to get a complete copy of things, especially since most of the players here are ones who have most if not all of last years pins already (We have a few extra still even that I give to newer attendees). The case people like since it is what they use in the game, and a few of our players do Pokemon Trainer cosplays, but otherwise... people don't care. Only one or two of our players use the online game actively at all.

From everything I have seen on the official league forums from comments, there are going to be *no* physical cards for at least these 8 seasons of badges. They might do real prizes again once the badge case is full, and I hope they do, but for now... don't get your hopes up. :(

Wow. How old are these players? Sounds like mid-teens, since they are old enough to leave on their own, but young enough to be this immature about it. "Call me when there are promo cards??" Some serious entitlement issues here, wouldn't you agree, jaws_is_ra? I mean, you're relaying this information about these players in your league, but what is your opinion of these type of players? If you want me to take it at face value, if this were my league, the two words that come to mind are "good riddance".

I think this is part of the point! TPC would like more players to start using the online game. People play other types of video games, and we hear about how Magic Online is so popular. As a league leader, why not encourage them to start?
