I just hope it's not an alternate form and hopefully he ends up being called Mewthree. Next thing you know, they'll name him MewZ
Why?
I know, I know; people like what they like. If you have any particular reason, I'd enjoy knowing, though. For me, calling it "Mewthree" sounds pretty... bad. Like if Marill really had been "Pikablu". "Mewtwo" itself isn't the greatest of names, but it works reasonably well because "Mew" rhymes with "two" (at least in English) and it was the first time this bit was done.
If they do go the "Mewthree" route, I'll get used to it, I am sure. Still better than Munchlax. :frown:
Look at Muk or Dugtrio, Magneton, Luvdisc etc...
This design is better.
I'd like to challenge that.
Muk is only nasty if the sludge it is made out of is from certain sources. The less "organic" its basis, the less "nasty" it is. Otherwise a large pile of purple goo is pretty harmless and would remind many of us of our childhoods. Any Pokémon trainers (in games or fiction) ever go all "Venom" by wearing a hazardous materials suit and starting the match out inside of his/her Muk?
Dugtrio and Magneton aren't ugly, just a bit lame. I actually blame most of this on the seeming laziness of doing this same thing twice. It actually makes some degree of sense for multiple Magnemite to become some sort of gestalt entity for Magneton, magnetically fusing as part of their power. Done
once, this could arguably even be clever. I just think they should have used
more of them, forming a more interesting "body" but yeah, that's just probably just me (a Transformers fanboy).
Dugtrio doing the same thing "just because" is what makes both seem lame. Given how often Pokémon especially by now) are depicted hanging out together, saying "these three fuse together just because" yeah, definitely lame. That being said... notice they didn't stick random "kibble" onto the former Digletts that make it up.
Luvdisc seems a reasonably concept; the heart shape isn't too far off some real fish shapes. The execution seems lame to me, though.
Now... what about [DEL]Freeza[/DEL] Mewtwo itself? I've never hated its design, but it really is hard to evaluate because seriously, I see Freeza and am at least a little bit of a Dragon Ball fan. I can justify the "hose" like auxiliary connection between Mewtwo's head and his body, but there are some aspects of Mewtwo (like its chubby fingers) that really only "work" because "...it's Mewtwo!" That is to say, because Mewtwo was given such station in the video games and fiction, a lot of bits that, while perhaps justified as part of artistic vision, still seem a bit silly are
not because Mewtwo has been built up for so long.
Of course, it is all in the eye of the beholder; I don't begrudge people for not liking this new reveal, and I get more and more used to it as I see it. Personally, I think it at least looks better than Seaking, and honestly there are several Legendary Pokémon with "cluttered" designs I also like a lot less.
