i was excited about redshark, but the fact that it can only be run on windows upsets me. i run both os on my mac though, but really don't like using windows for anything.

Java is the worst thing ever. I can't begin to tell you how much I hate java.

The theory sounds great ... but the on the ground reality is anything but. I've lost count of the number of java apps that I've had fight with each other. Some work with only one specific version of java ... and of course you always seem to end up with two nessisary things that require different versions. Other apps are bundled with java and the install somehow breaks your other java dependant apps though the lastest one installed works fine.

Then there is the look and feel ... it's gotten a little better ... but the vast majority of Java apps I've been forced to endure are memory hogs that just don't look or act as nicely as Windows based programs.

I fully understand the Apple, 'nix, and other folks not liking the Windows only nature of an app ... but Java is not the answer.

I've never had any problems with Java on OS X, and Java is a step forward from Windows only.... but I agree it's a pain to run them: complete system hogs.

If someone could just make a small, light (and open source) client that would draw all the information from the cloud... that would be something

I also am not pleased with it only being a Windows program. But that's what happens when the majority of people have a Windows based system. So there's no point in me complaining about it. I'll just move on.

GG

Actually, its good to speak up. There's no reason why a program should not run on Mac, Windows, Linux. There are plenty of ways to code it once and run it everywhere.

POP gave one demonstration of the truth of that statement with TOM, their Tournament Operations Manager program. That was written in java.

Actually, for something text-based, like this program, web-based (AJAX) would be not too hard and could have extra features. You could have a built-in ladder/challenge/tournament system and, also, it would be multi-platform.

Many congrats to the programmer, though!

For those with Macs, the one thing I can suggest is (assuming there is spare had drive space) using Boot Camp. Yes, you need a legit copy of Windows XP for it (or Vista if you have it). Though I'm sure OEM versions of XP can work (and they're cheaper)...

Also, has anyone tested to see if the program is compatible with Vista?

or we could leave it here because if convenience is attempted to be achieven we'd rather not board jump to one where we don't frequent. kthx

Well, the point is unless you post on that thread, the person who created it isn't going to hear the comments. So yeah, there is a reason behind me posting the link; sorry if it's "inconvenient" for you to take five seconds to ensure your comments can be heard. Don't bother posting anything non-productive to the discussion at hand next time.

You can always contact the creator at [email protected]

I'll let him know about this thread though, just so he sees what you guys have to say too.
