^At what point couldn't they keep their cards? Was that due to the card-swapping measures?

Not quite sure what you mean, 'cause I don't remember anyone not being able to keep their cards, seeing as how these were sealed pack tournaments...?

I believe the ones they didn't use in their deck were put in a bag with the players name and at the end of the tounrament they got them back.

Me too. I had never heard of Card-Swapping until just now. Weird.

This new regulation, however, if it is widely implemented, seems to
  1. Complicate things
  2. Take more time
  3. Not make an impact on the tournament worthy of its downsides.

Different practices were done in different areas, so you may not have experienced it where you played.
In some areas, the player opened their 6 packs and recorded their contents. Then, they switched those over to another player who build their deck with them and they got cards and sheet that some other player had opened and filled out. I'm not sure how common this was.

I wouldve refused to give up MY cards in the cards swapping crap

Prereleases are a waste of money any way

The practice of writing your pulls and swapping them with another player is common in higher level Magic tournaments. I dont think swapping is a good idea in pokemon since theres so many youngsters who play but i wouldnt mind writing down my pulls if it prevented cheating.

That's my event - and yes it's just cut & paste information that has been carried through from old tournements. I'll remove it - thanks!

Prereleases are and have always been Premiere events. They have not been a part of Championship events since 2006 or so. I would be really surprised if they change, because a large percentage of players (and judges and PTOs) like the current fun atmosphere of the tournament.

My mistake. I meant that they may be changing it back to the way that it once was when they issued prizes, but stopped because people had been cheating and dishonest with their "pulls."

I hope they do not start the card swap thing at alll. I will not enter. I do not believe in it and I do not agree to them. I believe you pull it you get to keep it not this you pull it but some one else gets to keep it. No That not fair on the fact if you are a player with little income and you pull a card valued at $30 and the day after release ever one knows is a good card so it going to go up to $50 to $60 I do not see the fair ness in you having to get rid of a card that cost so much. No I do not agree to them. And if they started doing that again I would not enter any Re-release till it was undone. I do not agree to the you pull it but some one else is going to get it.

I think I'd better lock this thread before people freak out too much over an error.

1. The info that the originator of this thread found on a PTO's website was incorrect info. It was old info that applied years ago and NO LONGER APPLIES.

2. The PTO who had this on his website had POSTED IN THIS THREAD TO SAY IT WAS AN ERROR.

3. No one is doing card swaps and THERE ARE NO PLANS for ANYONE to do card swaps. This was done YEARS AGO at some locations back when boxes were on the line for the winner. NO ONE IS DOING CARD SWAPS NOW.
