Hi everyone,
I'm new to the pokemon TCG (and the board), but love and have played Yu-Gi-Oh! for a long time. Do you guys have any advise for me to start up pokemon, like any similarities between the two? thanks! :thumb:

Get a theme deck
and partipicate ina DP prerelease
then u will be started up
there will be players kindly donate their unneeded stuff for u to start off with =)

If the preconstructed decks work anything at all like they do in Magic, you can make a deck that'll at least be halfway competetive in lower-level, more casual tournaments by buying two of the same one (for the uncommons/rares) and putting them together, adding some other stuff as necessary.

Or if you're feeling ritzy, just go look up some high-end decks and shell out for all the cards in them. That gets very pricey very fast, however.

Also, you won't know what the heck they do :)

Well, yes, that's the downside of netdecking right off the bat. This is why I said to do the precon thing: They give you a deck outline plus some cards (buying two just gets you more of the uncommons/rares for consistency) and an overall strategy, and it's your job to make it better/playable.

Get a starter deck.
Trade your yugioh cards for Pokemon.
Stop yugioh.
And keep on Pokemon.
Read the rule book and study your decks and the ones you build.

Thanks for the advice guys! Although there's no way I'll ever trade in my yu-gi-oh cards, right now I just want to start up a little Pokemon gaming and get into something else, along with yu-gi-oh (something I could play with my little brother as well, I'm not sure he's old/cool enough for yugi) ;)

Magic is a nice complement to Pokémon.

No Delta (aka raieggs) is the best for beginners. You can look up the new decks under Archtypes

I used to be great in Pokemon. I was king of League back when I was younger. Then I retired. Then after years of my friends insisting upon my return, I did. I joined about 3 months ago.

I netdecked Moza's list of Raieggs. Of course, made changes as I went along.

Raieggs is good. But there is a lot of strategy involved in that deck. Damage spread. When to split bomb, when to Delta Circle. When to Zzap, but it's so tempting to Metallic Thunder.

It's a deck that a beginner can play, sure. I do like Sallygross better for beginners though. Salamence d was in a theme deck. So that's proof, that it's a Pokemon fun and easy to play with. Great for beginners.

thanks for all the help guys! i've got great ideas about what how i can start up now. and if you need advise on yu-gi-oh, you know who to pm. ;)

Thanks DocterMcDreamy :D

If you are new, I would suggest going to Pokebeach and downloading Apprentice(appr. for short).

It's just a program that lets you play pokemon(and other TCG's if I am not mistaken) across the internet with other players. It is one of the best tools to get good at the game, then get pro at the game.

GL :p

BTW, Raieggs is a very simple deck yet a very thought-intuative deck. I would not recomend it for a new player. Instead I would recomend the now out-of-format deck Queendom.

For decks nowadays, a good beginer deck would have to be Banette.

Hiya! Welcome to the TCG =D

Now, to start off, you should buy a Starter Deck of the latest set, which is Power Keepers (May I reccomend the Psychic one).

attend as many prereleases as you can.

Attend Pokemon League Sessions.

Ask the good players for advice, they should only want to help.

If you are lucky, and people are in a good mood, people *MIGHT* give you cards, but dont hold your breath on it :)

Trying to build a deck from scratch is very difficult. There are really very few decks that are both simple and cheap to make. My personal favorite would probably be Nidoqueen/Feraligatr. Queen searches, G8r powers attacks. Both Pokemon can attack with decent power. The entire deck in its speediest form could probably be made for less than $50, most of that going into the Holon Transceiver, but almost any deck that you want to build would probably need Transceiver, so I don't really count it as a "cost" of building a competitive deck. It's not tier 1, but it's got some pretty good matchups across the board, and is relatively simple to use.
