I think news on future Pokemon TCG releases deserves its own update, right? So we continue with information on some cool Pokemon TCG products that will be released later this year. As we all know, EX FireRed and LeafGreen will be released on August 30th. This is only the first in a series of products that will be released before the end of the year. The next release will be of the Pokemon Deck Tins on October 25th. You can see a picture of the four deck tin designs to the right. The tins will cost $9.99 each and will include one of four Promo cards. Then, on November 8th, the seventh EX series set will be released. As of right now, a name hasn't been given. But it will also feature Pokemon from the FireRed and LeafGreen games. Then, on November 15th, the EX Battle Stadium will be released. The EX Battle Stadium is a pretty cool box set. It will include two 60 card decks and two 10 card sideboard decks. It will also include tips on how to build strategic decks. The EX Battle Stadium will cost $21.99. Looks like a pretty exciting fall for Pokemon TCG releases! For more details on these releases, you can check out the ICv2.com article [here]. We'll be sure to keep you updated with the latest news on the future Pokemon TCG releases.

I don't think I like the idea of a sideboard in this game.

How would you play them anyway? Since this game isn't 2 out of 3, like yu-gi-oh, to correctly interchange cards you'd have to know your opponent's deck before the game. I do believe revealing the best way to combat another player's deck before the game is unsportsmanlike conduct.
I guess it's just adapting to the environment the tourney is. So you'd really only use the sideboard once during the day, to adapt to the way players at that particular tourney, instead of your normal place, operate their decks.

I can't WAIT for the sideboard idea to implemented in tournament play!

dont think that it is a side-board like yugioh and magic. just some extras to edit the deck you got.

Yeah I think so too. These are starters, so have the starter deck, and then give them some things to switch out with (that will go with them so they don't have to go buy more stuff right there) that will help them get the feel of building decks.

I heard they announced soemthing about sideboards starting in October, and I think it's a great idea like if you need room for a 4th Candy, sideboard it and after yopu loose a round cuz you didnt have a 4th Candy, switch it into your deck by ditching a card that cost you the game last round!

I think that the sideboard idea is great for 2/3 matches. However, if ur playing single-game matches, ditch the entire idea, as one person could potentially read the other's deck somewhere and counter it before the 2nd player has a chance to do anything.

Basically, the deck has to stay the same as the original decklist between rounds. Once one game is over, you can switch in any cards from your sideboard for the 2nd game.

No sideboards. I hope to goodness that there are no sideboards. Please do not give us sideboards.

Yu-Gi-Oh is nothing like Pokemon. In Pokemon, you can't "do" anything during your opponent's turn, there are more constants (bonus), and the board always reflects the exact situation of the battle, but not the player's thoughts (also a good thing).

We don't need sideboards. Part of Pokemon is building a deck to combat as many decks as possible without sacraficing too much other essential deck space. This is why Pokemon decks are such a challenge to build. There are no sideboards to fall back on and replace cards with when you come up against a hard matchup and see what you hadn't seen before the tournament. The metagame is a much bigger part of Pokemon than most other TCGs with sideboards, because with Pokemon, you've got no sideboards, nothing to fall back on and reconstruct your deck with if you didn't study and metagame and you find out it PUNCHES YOUR DECK'S FACE IN.

Sideboards are take-away from the skill that is metagaming. They are like crutches, you don't need to be as strong if sideboards are around to keep you up.

Yeah... I think the 'sideboard' term was a bit incorrect. The purpose of the Battle Stadium is to improve deck building skills. You get two decks and then 10 cards for each to tweak your deck to perfection and then test it against the other deck (or you can mix and match)...this is ideal for players that play out of theme decks (think of it like a theme deck challenge in a box) It will also include tips on how to build strategic decks. Thats the main giver-awayer.

The trouble with sideboards in Pokemon is that given 10 cards you can nearly change the whole deck! Certainly it would allow you to switch the main hitters and evo lines in your deck out completly..

Fire main line against water easy switch out for that water resistant grass line..

I do hope that sideboards in OP is not a reality ...

Right, the sideboards are extras for new players to learn to use after they learn how to play the game. The sideboard idea like they do in magic, would not be practical unless all swiss round were played best 2/3, which would take alot longer, essencially doubling the current time it takes to run a tournament.

guys, there is a logical explnation to the sideboard thing. There have been rumors that nintendo might be switching Pokemon to 40 Card Decks, becuase that is how they play in japan. If they do, sideboards might make sense...

When I was demoing for nintendo at Gen Con they said that the sideboard thing will not take an effect it is only a way to include more cards I guess. Wonder what Gardevoir and Blazeiken they will use?

I think he might be talkin about MTG Casual play in Japan...aybe he got confused...but in no way am I usin a 40 card deck!

nope. Japan uses 40 card decks. Either that or the entire Michigan/Indianna area is missinformed o_O

Well I'd say so, because I just looked in the official japanese rulebook ( http://www.pokemon-card.com/play/officialrule/official_rule_pcg.pdf ) and it says 60 card deck (look on page 13). In fact, not anywhere in that entire document does the number 40 occur.

It does mention playing with half decks, which has 30 cards (and you play for 3 prizes). But 60 is the official number they play with.

The sideboard thing they're referring to, really seems to be just extra cards to add in like others have said... not sideboard as in yugioh/magic sideboards

More so like this:

Think of a Theme Deck challenge you get one deck and 3 packs...

Well in that kit thing you get the decks and 10 cards to edit the deck to your liking... I do not think it's meant for actual game play.

If it's 40 cards in Japan then why were they so well adapted to the 60 card deck deal thing at worlds? And I'm sure at nationals they had magma decks with 60 cards... not 40.

40 card pokemon decks would be sooooooooooooooo hard to do you'd have no room for real combos and all. God I hope THAT isn't changed.
