Tpci finally announced the location for worlds. It will be in Boston. However, they also announced no lcq for this year? Im pretty sure I'm not the only one who is more than a little frustrated w this news, and was hoping we could get someone from tpci to tell us why they have came to this decision. Please let the community know and I strongly urge you to reconsider your position on the lcq this year.

Thank you

That's what it looks like. With Day 1 on Friday, that's where the LCQ normally shows up on the schedule.
On the other hand, qualification for Day 1 is only 300 points, so there will be a much greater chance of qualifying in the first place.
The big push for this year will be for the paid trips.

As part of Worlds staff this past year, and responsible for the registration system used for the LCQ, I can tell you that it is a TREMENDOUS amount of effort for staff to put on this event for the entire day...for the net result of letting what, no more than 24 additional players (8 per division) into the Worlds tournament? With this new system, IMO they've devised better way to include more of the best players into the Worlds experience, and even still preserving the notoriety for the best of the best with the rewards for Top X in each Region.

Me and my friends though of it like this. Day 1 of worlds IS the LCQ, its just the LCQ now has a 300CP entry requirment

Ive heard this from a number of people, but its just wrong. Day 1 is not the LCQ. First of all, the LCQ used to have a bunch of parents and visitors and that is no longer the case. Everyone playing has at least 300 CP so its a much tougher field.

Second, you can lose a match or even two and still make it into Day 2.

Third, you play a full tournament win or lose, which makes it worth the trip and the expense to play. There were very few people that were willing to travel and pay for a hotel to try to grind in under the old LCQ knowing you may play one round of Pokemon and be done. Anyone who thinks this is just an LCQ really hasn't thought it through at all.

I never said the LCQ was single elimination, or that a loss puts you out completely. I know its separate stand alone tournament to get into day 2, but from the way the tournament is worded with how people advance, it sounds EXACTLY like a LCQ to me (The players with X points after the tournament concludes advance) The old LCQ format was the exact same way, just the point threshold was a tad bit more strict X-0 against X-2 for this year.

Day 2 invites are scarce as of right now, and Day 2 of worlds is the main tournament which will likely grant CP and the chance to become a champion.

Perhaps LCQ isnt a proper term, maybe Day 1 is a feeder tournament, would that sound better to you?

No actually Friday play is still the LCQ. Some players wont have to play on Friday as they will already be qualified for Worlds that starts on Saturday. I am certain that the previous worlds T4 players will not be playing on Friday, nor will anyone who earns an invite at Nationals. Everyone else will have to grind though on Friday as long as they have the 300 Championship points to qualify. the fact that you can change decks from what you played on Friday to grind in to the Worlds tourney on Saturday proves that Friday is still the LCQ only the participation qualification has been changed from 10 play points to 300 championship points. Its really the same thing. I expect only players playing on Saturday will receive the swag bags.

Players on Friday were confirmed to be receiving bags.

All players who have an invitation to the World Championships will receive an exclusive Pokémon World Championships Welcome Kit as an acknowledgement of their accomplishments during the season. Players must be on site to receive the Welcome Kit.

They already confirmed that -
Players playing Friday get bags
Players qualifying through T4 @ Worlds 2014 get Day 1 (Friday) invites
Players who make T8/T4/T2 at US Nationals get 300 CP (enough for a Day 1 (Friday) invite)
Players who win US Nationals get 500 CP (Enough for a Day 1 (Friday) invite, plus a bump in the race for a bye into Day 2)

JandPDS, I don't think any of your points stand...
