Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

North Texas: Autumn~Battle Roads

We have no Juniors in our League so someone from out of town will win that division. We has some Seniors and Masters that intend to put up a fight. Am I reading right that going into the last weekend, Andy M and David M have swept their divisions in North Texas?[/QUOTE]

My son will be there tomorrow to face David M again. He came in 2nd today at Garland and made Dave work for his win. :smile: His record yesterday was 4-1.
Gabby doesn't want to play so it will just be him and me.

Where? Is everything O.K.?

Nah, I couldn't make it. I had everything ready, but my dad started working on our car early that morning and he thought he would be done by the time we had to leave but it took a bit longer than that, 5 1/2 hours longer. My dad really tried, but something went wrong and we couldn't make it. Probably won't go tomorrow either because it's a Sunday. I guess i'll see you all then at the prerelease.

Great BR yesterday. Lots of fun, LOTS of learning, with several rookie mistakes. Like, IDK, discarding your supporter before you attack. D'oh!!
But having said that, lots of good players. Thanks to the Judges who kept us in line, kept the games moving and made sure rulings were fair.

So on my to do list:
Make sure my son and I play MORE league.
Buy more trainers.
And learn the rules better.

:D

Thanks again!

(Casts dark magic to help Billy beat Will in the finals :p)

*Cyrus uses ULTIMA*

*Will Berry takes 9169 damage*

*Will Berry defeated*

*Got 10 Magic Point(s) [rating points]*

*Found 10,000 Gill [boosters]*

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Well looks like my dark magic is still pretty eratic. I haven't taken on Kefka yet, but here's who did well in 15+:

1st: Will Berry (6-1 Feraligatr)
2nd: Billy kettler (5-2 Blissvire)
3rd/4th: Roy Jr. (4-2) (Gatrmeg)
3rd/4th: Billy (4-2) (Aggron/Delcatty)

Well, it looks like the William and Billy variants swept Tom Bean, TX. Congrats, y'all.

...And with another post (to avoid triple-merging), I have a little segment I'd like to call...

~~~SOUTHERN PLAINS COMMENTARY!!!~~~
First off, congrats to all of you who made these events so awesome. Billy, Lauren, and I all observed some great sportsmanship (Billy probably observing the most 'cause he went to the most tournies of us three :X).
-The players. Other than uhhh, a few people here or there bragging nonstop about success at low-stakes tournaments (I'm looking at you, Sidney!), were all tactful and knew just what the BR season was about: the seemingly impossible hybrid of fun/competition.
-The staffing was strong as usual. I have no examples from San Antonio/Oklahoma because I didn't attend any of those tournaments, but I'm sure it was all great. Dallas' strongest point was their always-active judging, and Houston's strongest point was their efficiency. You all did a great thing by running so many tourneys, so pat yourselves on the back, 'cause I can't literally do it!
-Aaaand now for my top five masters of this portion of the season:
#1: Adam Garcia (TX, Houston). With four BR wins (most of them undefeated), not a single missed top cut, and a solid list of one of the format's best decks, I think Mr. Garcia takes this easily. He has JUST moved up to the 15+ and is already dominating. In the past year and a half I've known him, his play has exponentially improved, and I'm just very glad to see him succeeding. He gave me a run for my money in my second BR, and best of all...gets every single one of my South Park references!!!
#2: Will Berry (OK, OKC). Five battle road wins...Verrrrry, very impressive! Best of all, it's with a deck that many people underestimate (Feraligatr). The list we worked on has been doing great, and after seeing you win the first three or so, I decided to dust it off, and boy did it work well! Kudos, sir.
#'s 3 and 4: The Super Kettlero Brothers (Billy and Johnny: TX/Denton, TX/College Station). Again, another player that has exponentially improved in the past year, my one and only brother is doing a good job representing the Dallas/Fort Worth area with his play and creativity. With a 1st, 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd, he is consistently performing, no matter where he goes. Sky's the limit.
As for me? Well I'm not dead yet. With only two tournaments I was able to make the Top 20 in North America, and currently I'm 2/2 at my Battle Roads...Not too shabby. :).
Expect the Kettlero Brothers to claim those top two spots by the end of cities, 'cause now we'll actually be working together full-time. : D
#5: Clay Carney (TX, G-R). Unlike the other four people, he actually _gets_ that Battle Roads are for experimenting more than anything. Billy and I didn't get too creative, and #'s 1 and 2 are one-trick ponies, but Clay was unafraid to use anything. Because of that, he was rewarded with two hard-earned wins.
TBH, #'s 3, 4, and 5 (as well as the unnamed 6-10) are generally interchangeable, but meh, I'm biased. :p
Thanks to all who came to Tom Bean today for our Battle Road tournament. I hope everyone enjoyed their tournament and had a safe trip home. And congratulations to the winners:
Juniors - Jacob T
Seniors - Kevin D (defended Grayson County turf)
Masters - Will B
Lots of different decks; the three winners all had totally different decks from each other. Hope to see all at the next round of Pre-Release tournaments and the City tournaments. We will have a Pre-Release in Sherman on November 3rd. We are going to try to schedule the Sherman and Tom Bean City Tournaments back to back Saturday-Sunday on the same weekend if we can.
I'd like to say that although I lost Sabin, Cyan, and Locke early on, I was able to beat all four tiers of Kefka, and claim my title as national champion of Final Fantasy VI.
As for you silly people and your battle roads?! Pft. :)
Ahh... Even with a 2nd place showing in Garland and the 6th place seat in Tom Bean it was still ALOT of fun....
Props to Texas for hosting the BRs and Props to the STRICT judging that I had to get used to....
Lastly props to all the North Texas guys that came out not expecting to win but to just play and have a good time....
P.S. WB for president...
Amen Brotha!
I won Woodlands (Houston), with my new version of Emploeon/Blissey!!! (Much Faster I have to say, though I didnt change the trainer engine =p)
I think everyone played great. Everyone had awesome decks and great strategy.
Unfortunately I had really bad luck and didn't win 1 game except for the round I got a bye.
I know I played my best and I made the others work for their win. Especially Shane's infercatty deck.
I just had bad luck pulling my trainers and energies.
And the last guy I played he had great luck with the spit bombs from eggexutor and using my dice to roll the heads. When I used it I just got tails:mad:
Thanks for the fun in playing and at least my son got 2nd place in the Garland Jr's.
And yea... the judge was really strict. I hate hearing "resolve your move" when I'm trying to think what I should play.
It isn't the judgin is strict, it is the players needing to be reminded occassionally that there is a time limit to every move in this game. Everyone has to remember that :
"Performing the actions of a card or attack: 15 seconds
Shuffling and setup, game start: 2 minutes
Shuffling and deck search, mid-game: 15 seconds
Starting the turn after opponent’s “end of turn” announcement: 5 seconds
Considering the game position before playing a card: 10 seconds"
It is seconds.. not minutes todetermine actions and game state situations. Several players, including myself, can get unnerved and take a few extra seconds ot make a decision, but when these few extra seconds are repeated over and over again, this becomes an issue of timing and possible slow-play.
I think some players allow themselves to get more lax in playing do to the beginning of the Competitive Season starting back up. Battle Roads are a time for everyone to get back on the right track and sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of the game instead of assuming we know them all!
Remember, Judges are people too, and can only rule and observe what is presented before us. Active Judging requires a Judge to inform players of possible Game State issues before they get out of hand and lead down a dark tunnel of despair!
I think most would agree, even myself as a player, I would rather have a strict FAIR JUDGE than a lax PARTIAL JUDGE and I know that oyu will never have the latter in a MPB Tournament!!
Just remember to practice the timing of things at League sometimes. It is important to "LEARN" tournament style playing before actually getting into a tournament :thumb:
Great Beginning to the Season BIRCH!! Cities are right around the corner and it onlys gets more fun form there!
SOTG!! Want to impress Staff you think are strict?? Display SOTG during the Tournament and see how much FUN it can REALLY BE!!
