Here is my go on Empoleon. I accept suggestions, maybe fit in a terrakion (retaliate) or sawk PLB to counter plasma/darkai ex or flareon plasma to counter virgen deck.

I realize this post is kinda late-ish, but I'be been looking into this deck for a tourney I would like to go to and a friend of mine says the area runs mostly VirGen.. Any advice for running against them?

In playing against VirGen (especially if my opponent does not play Lugia EX), I've found Leafeon to be extremely helpful in the primary attacking role (opponents may limit their bench size), just after the his/her 2nd Emerald Slash. There should be enough damage in play that you can then start 1HKO your opponent's active EX with Empoleon.

Definitely. Typically by the time you get a Leafeon out, you can hit for 80+ at least, before bangle which you should run.

An Empoleon might be out, as well as Dusknoir on the way.

But Leafeon is definitely a reliable attacker in that matchup, and tbh... your deck isn't weak to grass.. so resistance is your only fear, but even then Dusknoir and Bangle can counter that weak -20 against Virizion.
