Oil Spill

Ok so the oil has been spilling for a month now so if all the oil is coming out of a pipe
cant they just shut the valve or pipe.

A pipe is man control is it not after all a man put the pipes together.

So why not shut the pressure.

What do you guys think.

I think they dont care the oil is spilling because then they will just charge more for oil for their losses.
They know we depend on oil so they dont care we will pay regardless of how high it is and they know that.
We will pay even if we dont like it so i think thats why they dont care.
If they really did it would have been solved by now.

If all their losses woud be on their heads they would work faster so they figure go after the little man to make up the lost cost.

Thats my opinion what do you guys think.

I don't think it can be controlled. IIRC it's a pipe directly connected to undeground where the oil is. I'm not really sure though.

I would think they can control the pressure im sure they can stop the flow of it.I think they are choosing not to stop the oil.

This world is gonna end alot sooner then we think between all the earthquakes, magnitudes, storms and oil spills. We are gonna deal with alot of problems as a result of all this.

IIRC, BP did not purchase disaster insurance, so no, they are definitely not intentionally dumping oil, as not only is this huge egg on their face (legal egg, too), but it's costing them TONS.

Why would BP choose to leave the oil pumping into the ocean? Looking past the fact that it is a large amount of money in product lost for them, it's really making them look bad since they arent exactly on the ball with the clean up. So just from a business perspective, it doesn't make sense to keep the oil pumping intentionally.

If they could stop flow, they would, because it would make the mess they have to clean smaller, would make their company look better, and save them money in lost oil. The problem isn't as simple as 'turn off the pressure'. If it were, it would have been solved day one and would have been a small news story for a few days.

I doubt the world will end any sooner from an oil spill. Sure, it's horrible for the environment, and yes, it's doing a lot of damage and will continue to do so for some time, but compared to other things, its almost irrelevant. The effects of this spill will linger for 50 years maybe. It wont be like it is now for 50 years, but there will still most likely be signs of it 50 years from now, or longer. But other things we do, such as poor resource management, will have a much longer lasting effect. So no, this wont make the world end sooner. You might want to look up magnitudes, btw.

I heard rumors they were gonna raise gas prices to $14 a gallon because of the oil spill.

Magnitudes-I thought they are usually connected with earthquakes or am i thinking of rock slides, whatever but still there is alot of issues going on with this world.

If that rumor is the case, then why is gas at the cheapest it has been in a long time? It's been 2.79-2.89 here prior to the spill, and now it's sitting at 2.49, and has been for almost a week now.

They can't shut it off. The explosion destroyed the rig and the pipe broke and fell into the ocean. It's leaking from multiple areas of the pipe on the ocean floor. Since it's so deep, it makes it hard to get down there and stop the leak.

It is costing BP millions upon millions of dollars. I guarantee you they are not letting the oil leak to charge higher gas prices.

I've wondered about this. Presumably, no insurer would be willing to take on the risk?

so now that this "big plan" that they had dident work it looks like the next plan or idea wont happen for another 2 months sometime in august.

And even then theres no gurantee it will stop the oil from spilling into the water.

6 weeks of oil spilling so far and now we have another 2 more months to go.

Just curious but if worse comes to worse and it cant be fixed would it eventually lose all of the oil
as in the oil ran out?

I live down here in louisiana. Why didnt they have something planned if this happend. They might have to resort to "dolphins with mops" sigh....
Its a mess down here. Tho it hasn't affected me seriously. poor fishermen on the coast.
