Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Ontario Canada Winter Marathon

A question, and a comment

First a question.

Checking the Pokemon website, I find that the Burlington and Grimsby tournaments are not listed as sanctioned at this time. I would assume that its just a case that these are run by two separate PTOs and there's just a delay in the second PTOs touranments in receiving sanction. Any reason for concern? As I am trying to set a very crazy holiday schedule, so if I can have some assurances that I won't be in the proverbial doghouse with the chief family scheduler:smile:

OK now for comment

I have been involved for 5 and a half years. Each one of these tournaments is taking place at a location where one or more people have worked very hard to establish a relationship with the store, it's owner, and with local players, by running a league every week and organizing Premiere Events (PreReleases, Battle Roads, City Championships). You decided that the location we used in Toronto last year was too small. How much work have you done in the last year to find a new location, establish a league, develop a relationship with the store owner, recruit new players, teach them to build decks and play, spend time talking to their parents, provide them with cards from your own collection, and do all of that on a weekly basis, 52 weeks a year? Being involved with the Pokemon TCG is a lot of fun and has more rewards than I can mention, but it does not "just happen".

Following Paul's reply, there is nowhere in Toronto that wouldn't turn away any extra players (none of our current venues anyways). All (or at least most) of those stores I've been to, and have sufficient space for the people that arrive.

Reed - hopefully you won't be writing LSATs anytime soon because the two sentences above are leaving my head spinning. If I leave out one of the negatives in the first sentence and delete the "and" in the second sentence, then you imply that there are store venues in Toronto large enough to hold a Cities in. If this isn't your point, well my appologies, but it is your sentence structure after all.

That being said, the point that there are stores with sufficient space in them to play an event the size of Cities 40 - 70 people is pretty much irrelvant. Paul's point is that a relationship is needed between the store and the Pokemon community before the store owner will request that a Cities be held in his venue. Based on my observations over the past few years, it's a "seller's market" in the case of Cities Championships as each PTO can only sanction the number of events that they can staff and POP will allocate. Not surprising PTOs schedule events where there are healthy leagues in stores of sufficient size. Paul's point is simple. If you want to do something about the fact that you don't have a Cities close to you, then do the leg work to get a league and relationship in place with a local store. That will have a lot more likelihood of getting a Cities, where you want it, then a gripe on a Gym board per the poster's comment which elicted Paul's response.

I have since clarified my original post. I am speaking to the current cities locations (outside of Toronto) having sufficient space, and the known Toronto locations turning away people. It is unlikely that Card Masters (although a good store, it can barely hold a pre-release) would be able to support Cities attendance.

Additionally, I have no interest in getting into law :)

London, Burlington and Grimsby are all Premiere Events with me as the PTO. It just takes HQ a little longer to recognize my events. See you at the marathon!
