Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

OREGON State Championships - March 12, 2011

So a box of cards of every set beats David and Chris's head shave contest, what's in store for us this time that would beat last years?

@Michael: Isn't that at Regionals?

Now that Isaiah has decided to skip finals and go, and Chad/Mary are staying at the Comfort Inn, life is good again.

*hopes the tournament is HG/SS Single Match 6v6 with SMO-GON Standard Rules*

I really hate to burst your bubble but all the DS tournaments in Oregon have been done under the "GS CUP" option with Flat battle. Let me break them down.

note: DS Tournament rules could change. BDS will finalize them, not me.

  • All players participating must be using a Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver catridge.
  • A team of 4-6 Pokemon must be assembled.
  • All battles must be done under the Flat Battle option and please select GS CUP. These are 2 on 2 Double battles with 4 out of your 6 pokemon.
  • No two of the same species of Pokemon
  • no two of the same held items
  • The only banned item is SOUL DEW. (Bright Powder IS allowed, unlike on Smo-Gon)
  • You may not put more then one of your opponent's Pokemon to sleep with attacks like Sleep Powder. (which means the attack "Dark Void" is banned)
  • Freeze Clause is not in effect due to "Freeze" condition being random
  • Battles ending in a draw due to "Sacraficial Moves" such as Explosion or Destiny Bond will result in a lost for the player using those attacks.
  • Battles ending in a draw due to recoil attacks like Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz, or the held item Life Orb will go to a 1-on-1 sudden death. Deposite all other pokemon on your Team into your PC.
  • The only BANNED Pokemon are Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Phione, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus.
  • No Modified cartridges allowed (ie: Action Replay) If DS tournament judges suspect anything fishy they will check for hacks.
  • Some Event Pokemon like the Shiny Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are allowed. Please check with a Judge to make sure it is allowed in the tournament.

OK, I think I covered everything for the DS tournament. Weather or not we'll require all DS players to fill out a sign up sheet with all their Pokemon listed in their teams is up to whoever runs the tournament. Anymore DS related questions I'll be glad to answer.
~Cyber~

SaiaSandstorm is winning the poop out of this DS tournament.

Sorry, that will not happen as Little Lad went undefeated at both Oregon States and NW Regionals, I am pretty sure he is planning to repeat again this year as well.

-Go Team Phoenix Games!!!

What I know for certain is that Oregon is gonna win the card game, expecially in the masters. No stealing
our 1st place trophy this year!

How does donking all of your games change anything from last year?

Don't worry, all us Canadians are up north that weekend, Washington'll still get you though.

So I'm going to sweep the DS tournament with Glaceon, just so you guys know.

But in all seriousness, if I use a cartridge with hacked Pokemon but do not use any hacked Pokemon/items, will that pose a problem? I can just use my SS cart if it is.

EDIT: Oh! I have to use SS anyway. that works!

Cyber, thanks for posting these rules. I have some questions for you.

[*]No two of the same species of Pokemon
For clarification, a trainer could not bring in say, multiple Dragonites, but rather, could bring in a Dragonite and a Dragonair, correct?

I ask because there are ‘NFE’ (Not fully evolved) pokemon that are useful/used in tandem with their fully evolved forms. Porygon 2 and Scyther come to mind.

[*]Sleep clause is in effect (which means the attack "Dark Void" is banned)
Does this mean that, a trainer may not put to sleep more than any one of their opponent’s pokemon at a time, (until it’s knocked out) but they may be inflicted by sleep due to say, Breloom’s spore effect?

At the same time, self induced sleep like Rest, or an encored spore would still be legal, correct?

[*]Battles ending in a draw due to recoil attacks like Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz, or the held item Life Orb will go to a 1-on-1 sudden death. Deposite all other pokemon on your Team into your PC.
Would the battle then change to single battle 1 v 1?

Submitted for your consideration, a sudden death match was played out at last year’s world championships in Hawaii. iirc, the trainers brought in 4 pokemon to the sudden death battle, but battled only until the first pokemon was knocked out. It seems like double battle pokemon work better in a 2 on 2 environment, and might be diminished by being thrust into a 1 on 1 situation, just to decide a tie.

If not, everyone could just pack a level 1 focus-sashed Starly with endeavor and quick attack in their sixth spot, or a similarly customized Smeargle for such an emergency.

Thanks again, looking forward to your response.
