Organized Play in France

Hi Pokégym, I am moving to France next fall, and in relation to that, I am wondering what the OP situation in France is like. Are there a lot of leagues and tournament venues? How about the player base and such?
Also, is there a website for French OP anywhere?

Thanks for any answers :)

Hi,

I'm in charge of the most decent TCG website in France, Pokécardex. You may call it a Pokegym-like. There are no real "official website" for French OP, the local distributor just gives to the community what they need.
I'm also a player and a league&tournaments organiser.

The league repartition is mapped on this topic (old map, but it changed just a few). There is at least 1 BR (both autumn and spring) for each league, something like 20 BR A for the coming season, 5 Regionals, 14 Citys, and for the next Regionals and BR we'll see.

Leaving near the North-East of Paris (or just North-East of France), you'll get the biggest part of the tournaments. Compiègne is the most active place, thus the biggest tournaments are often there or close to that city.
For the South of France, there are still leagues and tournaments (refering to the map), but you could need to travel more. I live in Antibes (near Nice), the current year I travelled to Montpellier, Lyon, Lausanne in Switzerland, and Milano and Torino in Italy (did it thanks to my favourite car driver).

If you have any questions, go ahead. :)

Also, where will you be in France ?

Hi ! As a French player, I may help you.

The most important website for players in France is Pokecardex (it's in French, obviously). Most French tournaments are first announced on the forums.

You may find the list of French leagues here - I'm not 100% sure it's up to date but I think it is.
Tournaments are organised by most of the leaders of these leagues. I think the main exception is the Paris league, because it's hard and/or costly to find places to run a tournament (the league is in a card shop, every wednesday, we have to share the room with Magic players).
The main tournaments in Ile-de-France (the Parisian region) are in Nanterre. Many players from Ile-de-France also go to tournaments in Oise (about one hour north, in car) where a lot of tournaments are organised (it's where the French OP Manager lives).

(About the player base : what do you want to know, exactly ?)

I hope this will help you. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions !

Edit : Well, Zarma beat me...

There is also the site pokemon-oise.com i think

You're going south or north of france? That indication would help a lot

Thank you for the websites!
I'll most likely be moving to Montpellier, where I am happy to see there is a league.
As for the player base, I was just wondering how many players you had on average and such, but seeing as you have 5 Regionals and 14 cities, I guess it is at least as many as we have here in Norway.

One more question, and then I will explore Pokécardex for information, are English cards considered "local language" in France, or do I have to get French cards to play with?

Thank you :)

Turin's defintely not close to Montpellier. That's about a 5 1/2 hours drive... Neither is Lausanne (4 1/2 hours drive)..
Lyon's about 2 1/2 hours away and that could be a choice.

Don't know what you mean by close but IMHO that's <3 1/2 hours... And this is pushing it...

I'm the local organiser in Toulouse , ( and also is the most beautiful town in france ) but there will be not tournement with a K-value 32. Only 2 battle roads .

Maybe there will be a city championship in Montpellier , but it's not sure .

Most of huge tournements are in the north , more particularly near Paris ( North exactly ) .

I will not see you , next year , because I will be at Swansea university ( wales ) so I hope you will participate to the future battle roads in Toulouse , there is a very competitive staff and game team .
So Welcome in France ;)

Montpellier had 2 BR Spring, and should have 2 BR Automn and a City Championship thanks to the venue in past year.
"Near" Montpellier (see with the local players for the trip, easier in car than with train), there is Lyon, and Lyon will have all tournaments : at least one of each tournament, something like one ranked tournament per month, also a Special Premier Event with a K-value of 32… THE place to grab points, err, to play, in south of France.
After that, Antibes and Montpellier will both have BR, but don't expect much.

Hi Black_Jirachi ! I am the League Leader in Montpellier. If you want more details, send me a PM on Pokécardex (I have got the same Name) ! :)

...... Lyon will have all tournaments : at least one of each tournament, something like one ranked tournament per month, also a Special Premier Event with a K-value of 32….....
I missed this the first time through. Tell us more please. [emphasis mine in the quote]

The enphased part included the SPE.

Last year, Lyon got two BattleRoads Autumn, one City Championship, one SPT and one SPE with a 32k value, and two BattleRoads Spring, which does 7 tournaments.
This year, due to SPT being changed for two Regional periods, Lyon should get two Regionals instead of one SPT and still have a SPE, so 8 tournaments.

We mostly play tournaments from September to end of May, so it's close to one tournament per month.

If you want more than one tournament per month, you should live near Compiègne, which is just between Nanterre (Paris) and Merville (Lille), three towns each with a lot of tournaments.
