People still play this game?

Don't yall know that World of Warcraft TCG is a growing empire that will consume all TCG's known to man? Seriously guys, you get more prizes out of LOSING at a WoW TCG tournament then actually WINNING at a Pokemon TCG tournament.

Bahhh just kidding. But guys, is it true that the game has become really stale? Like more stale than leaving bread out for days, that kind of staleness. Gymbo and others I heard have quit the game. Btw, ZapTurnDos ftw

hmm... agreed pokemon has lasted through the times of tcg. Also, it seems that it is growing in pop. more and more each year. Esp. with D&P coming out soon this game is anything but stale.

Yu-Gi-Oh is popular because it is a simple card game that caught more people due to its lack of complexity. Also the anime and games are very popular too. Pokemon TCG is an extension of pokemon, while Yu-GI-Oh tcg is everything there is about Yu-Gi Oh.

Also i dont see the point in making a gym account and then going and asking a question to a bunch of fans of the game if it is stale... In all fairness I wouldnt exactly say that anyone on the gym is quite objective to this question.

I'm talking about whether or not the format itself this year has become basically stale in terms of, "You play this kind of deck, or you lose." I have heard that the Holon decks are the only way to win in any means of a metagame.

I didn't just make this account, I made it 4 years ago when the Gym first opened up after Wizards took down their forum. I quit the game last year since I'm in college now and I have no way of playing the game anymore. But I really don't have any interest to come back if the game's diversity is simply two-sided. I personally feel looking at the most recent formats, that the game has lost much of it's diversity, but yet last year's format was quite mixed.

Holon decks, not really. Some form of Holon Engine, yes.

I run both in Mexico and well, I have to say I'd stick with pokemon in all terms, when was the last time UDE held a Free event? if people actually got charged for attending pokemon tournaments (except for prwe releases of course) , then maybe there could be some sort of comparison, but since pokemon is free, it will just keep growing; as for yugi, it is not a bad game, it is just that it seems to attract a crowd of players which I personally dont like as much as pokemon; The holon engine is perhaps the best engine of drawing power right now, but I just heard about the Silvestros going 3rd and 2nd using polistall (there goes the holon hegemony), and Eric Craig with Absolutions, which may run a part of the holon engine, but considering the small card pool WOW has right now, I'd say there is far more diversity on pokemon metagame right now than on WOW, though I agree WOW has a lot of potential.
I do remember your nick from a while back, its good to see older guys coming back even if it is to express their liking for other games, though I wouldnt be surprised if this gets moved, since I could hardly call this pokemon news or gossip :p

POKEMON >>>>>> WOW IMHO. Are there some flaws in this years format? Yeah of
course there is.

But the people I've met and become friends in this game from across the country are some of
the nicest and classiest you'll EVER come across.

Read Ives post above- he hits the nail on the head!

If you don't like our "stale " game then play something else.

Me, I've been hooked since 2000.Steve too.

This wont change for us.

for once, agreed with Tag >.>

The game is definately not stale

having played WoW and Pokemon, I can tell you, WoW TCg is hella boring compared to Pokemon TCG

Hey, Daniel, Mr. T. here...

As is typical this far into a format, deck choices have slimmed down.. but this happens basically every year. Last year, a (then) rogue deck appeared seemingly out of nowhere to win Nats. That could certainly happen again if a player or team is creative enough to break the current metagame. Creativity is still the greatest demand of this game and from what I recall, you sir have that attribute!!

Hope to be welcoming you back soon to some VA events. Where are you attending college??

We regularly see 5 or 6 different deck in the top cuts at big events.
Sure, many of them use all or part of the Holon Engine, but it's a far cry from the days of Haymaker vs Haymaker or Wiggly vs Wiggly or Sneasel/Slowking vs Sneasel/Slowking or Gatr vs Gatr,,,,
well, you get the idea.

There is a lot of diversity in decks right now and a player has to be prepared for a lot of different match ups and strategies that they are going to encounter when they sit down to play.

Stale? I don't think so.

pop you should lock this. There is already a "Pokemon is Death" thread. As many others who already discuss who "stale" this metagame is.

Pokémon Tcg offers 10 competitive decks at the moment. In Wow TCG, if you don't play Hunter, good luck to you to win a tournament, you'll need it.

And my Pokémon deck didn't cost me 700 dollars.

Ok well, then explain Yu-Gi-Oh.

During lunch break yesterday, we went to Books-a-Million.

I was going to ask the 6 players at Yu-Gi-Oh league if they wanted to join that 155 of us playing Pokemon, but they looked like they were enjoying themselves, so I didn't want to bother them.
