Play Points for Nationals

Can someone from TPCI come out and say if there will be a play point requirement for Nationals.

I don't understand how its acceptable to keep people in the dark this long on the requirements for the biggest tournament of the year.

It's a legitimate concern for making hotel room reservations in Indianapolis. Many groups of people are in situations where people want to go to Nationals / stay in rooms as groups, but several people of said groups can only confirm whether or not they will go based on the play point requirements. To top it off Nationals is during July 4th weekend so good rooms (I.E Embassy Suite suites) fill up fast even without all the Pokemon people taking them.

Can we get anything on this yet?

Unless you are a TO or active judge, are the play point requirements really a heavy consideration?

1 play point per season of league.
1 play point for prereleases and league challenges.
2 play points for city championships
3 play points for states and regionals.

Is there a problem attending these, especially with league challenges?

I usually hace difficulties meeting the requirements. The closest league/tournament location is 2-3 hours away. But I guess thats the perils of living in central Illinois.

I work part-time and go to college full-time. Yes, I have a problem attending those events.

Yes--and even for those of us who may choose not to play in smaller events, it'd be nice for them to know as well.

SuperWooper, great to hear from you! Having gone to college full-time while working part-time myself, I can relate. But I am curious, you are on Spring Vacation right now, correct? Were you at VA States? I didn't see you but I was judging Senior division. Will you be at MD SC this weekend?

With such a schedule, I can understand finding it difficult to do enough events to meet a requirement. However, I have yet to see you in any of my league sessions or league challenges (I've run 6 to date). I have not seen you at the two Gainesville events I played in. Maybe you were at Warrenton, but if your schedule is inflexible to the point that you are unable to play in 2-4 hour league play/challenges, I do not see how a 3-day Nationals event (4 days if you preregister) is in the question.

The point is for you to be active in organized play. At my leagues, there is a decent interest in Worlds decks (or decks from those respective time periods) so you would find people interested in decks from when you played more. It isn't all just standard play if that is your concern. If you are looking for Play! Points, with such a tight schedule, just 1 session out of 6 gets you the league credit. League challenges have opened up a lot of opportunities to play because they are reoccurring. League Challenges are a quick 4 hours and the ones in our area usually don't start before 11am (mine's start later) so it is possible to play in one if you work in the morning. Hopefully we'll see you at some of these.

It's unacceptable to not hear anything by now, but you will always have the TPCi apologists on here.

There will be a Play Point requirement, as well as an entry fee. Once the requirement and fee is reviewed and approved by the executive team, we'll get it posted.

Thank you,

How does having to do work regularly on weekends (whether that's schoolwork or a job) preclude someone from being able to take 3-4 days off to hang out with their friends at Nationals?

So what's the holdup? These tournaments have been going on for a decade now, surely there should be a more efficient/effective process to get these releases out. Most players don't have the luxury of playing to an indeterminate amount of Play Points, but want to play Nationals. If they can't play Nationals, they won't buy cards - just that simple. Your team is costing your company money and angering your customers by not releasing this information sooner.

I know a better game now that I am moving to . No sleeve restriction. No play point requirements. On top of that if you win nats or worlds they make you into a card. Yes I am talking about Universal Fighting System. Support is way better and they don't treat there players with useless sets except for 1 or cards in the Set they are all good and balanced. Have fun with this ridiculous card game that can eat you alive just because they used to be great.

It doesn't. I work EVERY weekend and I run league EVERY weekend. I understand there are areas without leagues in the nearby area. I can understand driving 2 hours for a league or LC is out of the question. SuperWooper has 6 possible leagues he could attend (3 on weekdays, 3 on weekends). I can't speak for other leagues but at my leagues he doesn't even have to be there the entire time to get credit for being there. Players come and go as their schedule allows. On top of that, he is on Spring Break at the moment.

Again, I can understand not having enough points to meet a requirement. I cannot understand having little to no points.

ARMondak, he stated what the holdup is, the executive team has to approve the fee/PP requirement. For a company to make a press release, all relevant information needs to be put into it when it is able to. To post the tournament needs X points, and not even noting an entry fee, one could argue that the original announcement said no fees, and that would create problems. When the executive team (Which likely comprises of people the community has not met ie Dave, Mike, Dan, Pete, etc...) approves the cost/PP requirement, then they will release ALL the details needed.

Anyways, if people are looking just for the bare minimum to get into nationals, then I feel sorry for you if you have had the opportunity to earn those Play Points earlier in the season. The last 2 years, Nationals have had a requirement of 15 points, so that would be a good starting point. Could it go up or down, yes. As to the entry fee, one could also take a logical guess. Cities were 10, states were 15, regional were 20 (most of the time) I can safely guess that Nationals entry fee will likely be in the 20-30 range, and ill guess 25. Could it be more or less, of course. Only time will tell.
