Playing Stadiums

I thought I knew the answer to this but now I'm not so sure :p

I know when a second Stadium comes into play, it replaces the old one. Can a player play a Stadium with the same name as a Stadium the opponent has in play? Also, can a player play a Stadium with the same name that same player has in play?

I'm asking because a friend of mine wanted to use up as many cards as he could from his hand so that when he played Uxie it would increase his draw power. He already a Miasma Valley in play, and then he played another Miasma Valley from his hand to replace the old one, all for the sake of using up as many cards as possible. Was this a legal move?

You can't play down a stadium if the the same stadium is in play. and can't play more than 1 stadium per turn (just for the record if anyone was thinking about it)
