Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

HL one is better. in mirror matches, they either dont tank out their registeel to avoid damage and reduce on their bench. or tank out registeel and take hits on the bench.

i prefer the HL version though myself. 50 damage for 2 metal and 1 colorless energy, and to top that off, a body that acts like a 5th metal energy.

EM... 1 steel u can do 10 damage, for 3 a spintail effect and you cant even make it do more damage to the active like you can with spintail t-tar.

Unfortunately, our current format requires that you ask yourself "How will I fare against LBS?" In this case, because of Lugia, the answer is "not well." Steelix will attack for two turns - enough to take out perhaps a pidgeot and gardevoir, or two gardevoir. You will then knock it out, as well as, if you are lucky, a jirachi on the bench (since both it and steelix are metal). They will then knock you out with lugia. They've thus taken 4 prizes to your three, and they've got all your metals, a gardevoir, and a pidgeot (or another gardevoir, if you don't run the pidgeot). Now, I'm not saying it will shake down that way, but that's the way it will work if your setups are equal. If your setup is bad, it automatically wins. If you get an incredible setup against them, you're still in trouble, because you can't OHKO jirachis with registeel, allowing them to shield themselves while they set up....and that's if you're running the HL registeel. With the other one, you'll get off 2 spins before they ko it, unless they use lugia, in which case you might be able to prize trade with them (OHKO's with gardevoir DS against lugia, assuming a bench of 2 pokemon). However, whereas they're reusing their energies with retriever and power tree, you're losing metals fast.

Also, check your matchups against other very popular decks. How do you fare against nidoqueen? Typhlosion? any liability deck? Machamp? dragtrode? arcanine -ex?

Unfortunately, it is not the time for slow-to-power basic EX'es, particularly if they have bad weaknesses and do not hit for significant amounts of damage. Mercury is a reasonable choice, but a dangerous one.

Good luck with it...

For the record, I won my Regionals with a single Registeel ex HL tech in my Mercury. Of course, I didn't have to face an LBS, as that deck hasn't really taken off here in Australia.

The EM version certainly has potential, especially when you're not expecting to face mono-type opponents, but be careful with how you use it. With many of your opponents, you may find that Gard or even Starmie (the number of Monarchy decks I've beat with suicide Starmie's is shocking) are the better main attacker, with Registeel being there to mop things up at the end.

archaic is right with his points about the em version of registeel ex.. i jsut dont see it as being that good. and u can strength charm(i run 2) in mercury to take care of 60 hp pokemon.

I never said it's not good, just that you have to be careful with how you use it. Because it's hard to retreat (I like to use the Holon's Magneton's, energy jumped on, to retreat them, bringing them back with Holon Farmer later), it's difficult to use the bench damage to best effect with an ATM. Certainly not impossible though, but you do need to be picky about how you go about using it.

Remember, part of the strategy with Mercury is to play a shell game with your Pokémon, never letting your opponent accumulate enough damage to KO (except when you want to go suicide Gardy Psychic Rage, of course). If you can't keep switching it out and in, you will have problems. Remember that when putting your trainers together. Remember also that you have Pokémon with free retreat, and Starmie can do it even without Holon WP. Warp Point in that case acts like a free, guarenteed Pokémon Reversal. That can be decisive.

I do believe the Blastoise / Lugia / Holon's Pokémon combo was intentionally created to keep defensive decks in check, especially with all the Metal-types released in DS. Not just Metal, but those using healing such as Milotic and Blissey Ex. That said with the popularity of Lugia, its hard to consider Registeel viable.

Metagross HL / Blissey Ex / Registeel Ex would be pretty awesome if it wasn't for Lugia.

Speaking of which, I should suggest that if you're going to use Mercury, you use a Queendom style 1-1 Milotic tech line. I didn't use one to win my regionals, but it certainly would've helped.

OLD Fast Deck:
Beldum Magnitic Call
Jirachi DX
Metagross HL 2
Metagross DX 1
Registeel HL 2
I top cut two states last year with it.
Add Starmie, very very fast.
But alas, the Tank get's Nuked by Lugia, so it really doesn't matter, not viable

Apologies if I'm just missing the reference you're making fK., but...buh? What relevance does whatever you're talking about have to this?

but with the right energy IE Scramble the next gross come up and PWN lugia
exactly, scramble the DX Metagroo and you hit Lugia for 80, the already have probably 20 on it because of Enegy Rain,i think it would be a suitable kill-for-kill situation.
