Please stop giving me packs!

Its more like bartering.

I wasn't planning on getting in on this, but how is it bartering if one party is not aware that they are bartering?
If he goes in and says "I have these packs that i didn't get from you, but I want to trade for credit, is that OK?" and they say "OK", then that is legitimate.
But if one side is hiding information from the other side about the origin of the goods, then please don't think that they're not doing something shady.

If it's not shady, then be honest with the store and if they're ok with it, god bless.

^ As a commercial business, of course, especially with regulations governing the safe handling of food for making the pizzas. But no one is going to care that someone ordered pizzas and split the cost among people who want some. That happens every day.

Yes they will. Talk to the NE PTO about what he had to do so he could keep selling pizza at his events.

May I ask where do the packs usually come from?

What really needs to happen is for The Pokemon Company International, which is an over one billion dollar per a year business, to release more money for the organized play people to work with. A company that makes that much money, and have grown more and more profitable over time shouldn't keep a stagnate budget for their organized play aspect.

Sure, which PTO is it? I'm honestly curious precisely who made him do something about it.

Professor_Dav might wish for more money in his budget too!! But a bigger budget needs to be justified with how much money NEEDS to be spent to meet certain goals. Organized Play is an outright cost for the company, not directly tied to the profits you mention. It seems this year they were able to free up funds previously used to subsidize Master's attendance into other aspects of the program...bottom line, doing more with the same amount of money.

Tom Shea. Same thing happened today at the Manchester CT CC - the store owner announced he would not be bringing pizza in, which i thought was strange. Someone told me he'd need a special license in order to do that.

Our T8 Masters are getting packs of POP! sleeves

^ Oh, for permits for selling food in a store? That makes total sense. The business owner wouldn't want to risk selling foodstuffs that he/she isn't licensed for.

In my mind, I presumed we were talking more about third-party venues. If I rent a venue, and ask them if I can sell food like pizza to my players, and they say yes, that should be the end of the discussion. I'm not saying a permit will never be needed...what I'm saying is any given organizer shouldn't shy away from placing a group order for pizzas and collecting money because they think they need a permit. Let's just leave it with, it depends on the venue. Store owners may not want to risk it. Large conventional halls might not allow it because they want to provide food themselves. Everything else is in the middle.

Food is cool. We've had pizza for top cut (and staff) last two events. In the past with short lunch break/no nearby food we've provided pizza slice and cold soda for like $1.50.

However, for large events, professional venues (hotels, convention centers) often have 'in house caterer' rules that prevent outside food and buying food from them (we've done it before for judge seminars) is like $15+ per serving. So, it varies. Finding large halls without these rules, in convenient locations is sometimes not possible.

Because as mentioned earlier in the thread, TPCi has stopped subsidizing Masters' attendance. Since event organizers need to pay the costs of running the event still, organizers must now collect money from Masters. By taking that step, TPCi's budgeted money can be spent on other initiatives.

Okay now I am far too lazy(and dumb tbh) to actually reply to everything but-
1). I obviously agree about the part that it's not stealing if it's something of relative value and they do accept it w/out a receipt. and @ evil psyduck, I have no idea how this is even remotely close to going in and stealing, they are getting something in return that they deemed of equal value. STEALING is when you get nothing in return.
2). Ethics, in general, are in the eye of the beholder and quite frankly I don't see anything wrong with doing what I suggested(and to suggest I have NO ethics is completely wrong btw)
3). I have no intention of posting on this thread anymore as I had NO intention of this turning into an ethical debate and was just trying to toss out an idea to the guy who posted this thread.
4). The whole point of the entry fee is to get more prizes and for 10 bucks I would argue that cc's have more upside than they did when the entry fee was free, prizes across the board have doubled and the have gone to more players so getting rid of the entry fee, imo, is dumb.
5). Also noting I have no negative references or anything like that, on any site,(the one on here is from a confirmed ripper who ripped off people by saying that he never received their end) and if I had NO ethics I would've ripped off someone by now right?
