Pokémon Demo Packs, First edition Charizard and Super Trainer Showdown Jacket

Hello all. I've been lurking on the forum for a couple of weeks, but this is my first post at Pokegym. I need some help identifying a couple of Pokémon items that were passed down to me from my neighbor. He worked for WoTC and used to spoil me with booster packs when I was a kid.

Anyway, he recently passed away and left me moving boxes of Magic the Gathering, Yu Gi Oh and Pokémon stuff. I recognized most of the Booster pack Boxes (36 individual) ; the Base set, Base set w/ 1st edition logo, Fossil, Jungle, Rocket and 2nd edition. The one that I do not recognize says Demo Game on the cover. http://i.imgur.com/OxfVP.jpg
He left me a good amount of these sealed packs, but I do not remember ever seeing them before. Any info on price? I'm assuming they gave these out at WoTC events since he was an event coordinator for tournaments and things like that.

He also left me his 1st Edition Charizard. It was still in the same hard plastic sleeve from when he first showed it to me as a kid. I looked on the bay and the price ranges from $250 to $5,100 (why anyone would bid that high, is beyond my comprehension.)http://i.imgur.com/CQUSk.jpg I took it out of the plastic sleeve to snap a quick picture of it. The fact is that I don't know anything about collecting cards; Vintage Japanese Guitars from the 60's on the other hand... Anyway, could anyone help me with grading this card? Do I have to bring it somewhere specific to be graded?

Other than the binders of loose 1st edition cards, the Booster Pack Boxes, loose Booster Packs, loose saran wrapped decks, and plastic boxes of loose cards (I haven't even tried to sort through that yet) He left me a sweet Denim style Jacket. http://i.imgur.com/f3TPK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pJkV4.jpg
As styling as this jacket is, it is too large for me, and I feel like I haven't earned the title of Master Trainer Champion. Has anyone else ever come across one of these? I'm already 22 and probably won't grow anymore so wearing it is out of the question. Is it worth it put up for online auction or should I just keep it for nostalgia's sake?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, the farthest I got collecting Pokémon cards was a binder full of all the Pokémon from Bulbasaur to Celebi (admittedly, my neighbor helped me obtain the ones I couldn't find in a pack.)

Thanks.

You are lucky to have such a generous neighbor!

The demo pack should earn at least $100.

The charizard range from ebay is a bit off. Charziard cards are all about condition. If the card is mint, with no whitening, you can expect more. The card you saw that ended at $5,100 was a shill bid auction, it does not represent that actual value. I purchased 3 nm charizards from $250-400 each recently. If the card were graded it would earn more. A PSA 8 earns 400ish a PSA 9 earns $600-700 and a 10 earns at least $2,000.

Wow, can't help with valuation but you had a really nice neighbor and he left you some REALLY cool stuff - especially the demo packs. Didn't even know those existed.

It's really cool that your neighbor gave you all that stuff!
Demo packs are very rare. They are far and few between. The 1st edition Base Set packs are also highly valued (~$200 each).
Be sure and do your research before you decide to sell. If you have questions about specific items, ask here on the gym. There are lots of knowledgeable people here.

He was definitely the coolest.

I would never guess that the demo pack would be worth that much. At quick glance, it looks like I have about 10 of them loose, and then a small unopened shipping box that I'm assuming contains the same thing (cardboard box has "Demo packs" written on the top of it in marker.)

As for the Charizard, I figured it would be somewhere in that range. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the $5,100 auction. I'm relieved that it was a fake bid, or else I'd have to face the moral dilemma whether or not to sell his card. I'm surprised he never got the Charizard graded, but he probably never thought of selling it in the first place.

Here's another picture of the demo packs. http://i.imgur.com/cI07x.jpg

It's a shame he passed on before we could question him about WoTC and Pokemon :p
But really, I'm sorry for his passing - he seemed like a very important/good person to you! :)

Anyways, if those boxes you listed are sealed (or just have the 36 sealed packs still in them), with all the loose packs and cards and other items, you have thousands of dollars in Pokemon cards my friend. You are one lucky kid ;P

would you mind PM'ing me the name of your neighbor? many of the 'gym admins/staff have been involved with the game since the WotC era, and i'd like to know if we've lost a friend. thanks...

SD PokeMom, PM was sent.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the information and advice. My neighbor played a big role in the awkward years of my life, tried his best to keep me on the right path. I'll probably keep most of it for sentimental reasons. The rest of the booster packs may go up for sale when I need money for Grad School. For now, I'll try and keep them safe.

And if anyone ever finds any info on this jacket, please let me know. I still have no clue what it is

thanks for the PM. unfortunately his name is not familiar to me; the WotC folks i knew were based in the seattle office. i am sorry for your loss :(

you've got a great legacy from your friend; the multiple demo packs alone should give you a nice nest egg for school :)

i don't remember if the jackets were STS prizes, or were staff items...

I'm not 100% sure so if anyone knows better please correct me but it looks like the shirt came from the Pokemon Tour from 8-26-2000 through 11-29-200 . The only issue I have with it is usually the shirts are blue with various pokemon characters in the front and says the tour locations/date along with super trainer showdown in the back, I'm assuming because it says Master Trainer Champion that it's a special shirt not normally given away.

As for value I wouldn't sell it, usually shirts are hard to sell and mange around $20-$30 you might be able to ask for more if it's adult size, because collectors could actually wear it, but still it's such a cool piece and would be a great way to remember your lost friend.

Those Demo Packs are an incredible find to come across. Would you mind sharing a picture of that box of demo packs? Or is it just a typical brown box of some sort?

I've been looking for a Demo Pack for months now. Haha.

Your neighbor must have been very nice. And 8 Demo packs? That's cray. You are very lucky. Any chance that you can tell me if he ever showed you or gave you a Base Set Pre-Release Raichu?

That time frame makes sense, I was about 10 or so when he started bringing me to tournaments. I'm going to hold on to it, doesn't look like he ever wore it out so I'll just tuck it away for now. Master Trainer Champion is such an elaborate title, I don't think I'll be able to live up to that anytime soon.

The "demo pack" box is just a plain brown box that has "demo packs" written on it with magic marker lol. I'm not entirely sure of what's in there because I haven't opened it yet. I found a couple more loose packs though in the box.

I'm sorry, but I don't really know what that is haha. I was young so I didn't know much about the different grades or promo stuff he would show me. I do have a binder or two of cards. Maybe if you can show me a picture, I can try to find a raichu that matches!

There are somewhere from 12-21 copies of them that have not been destroyed. It was an error because the pre-reease stamp was not supposed to be stamped on it. I believe it was on the print run with the Clefable. Here is a pic:

Sorry, it doesn't look like I have a card like that. But then again, I've yet to sort through all of it. If it was important, he probably would've separated it from the bunch. Thanks for the info though, I just read up on it and it seems really rare. Cool stuff.

Wow very sorry for your lost but he left you alot of interesting items. The demo packs alone can fetch you a good amount of money.if you still have a small sealed box left with those thats some of grad money in the bag. When you say loose 1st ed cards be sure to do your research for them base set 1st edition cards are very sought after by collectors around and if you even have sealed booster boxes those are worth some good amount also.but that jacket is the first time I have seen it at all but like someone else said they are pretty hard to find a market for people collecting the jackets though but alot of cool and interesting stuff to see.

That Jacket is nice, there are few clothing collectors out there but im sure you can get 50-70+ for it not sure.
